Will Linley – i don’t wanna be yours
By: Jennifer Vintzileos
Q) How would you best describe your sound?
A) It really is an amalgamation of different sounds and influences, so finding a few words to describe it is difficult. But I think I’d describe it as being fun, expressive and very pop driven.
Q) Who are your Top 3 musical influences?
A) Jon Bellion, Dean Lewis and Lany
Q) Tell us the story behind your latest single “i don’t wanna be yours.”
A) “i don’t wanna be yours” was written about two years ago with my friend David Balshaw. And it was actually the first song we ever wrote together. The main idea behind the song is about not wanting to get into a relationship with somebody because you see it ending before it’s begun. And ultimately wanting to save yourself from the inevitable hurt that would come from committing to be with this other person.
Q) You also shot a music video for “i don’t wanna be yours.” How did you come up with the concept for the music video?
A) We were on a shoe-string budget, so we had to try to keep it super simple. So, I phoned around and asked a couple favors from a few of my friends and within twenty-four hours we had a video. I wanted to shoot something fun and casual that represented the vibe and essence of the song driving which describes a date driving around Cape Town.
Q) Since its release, what have been the overall reactions and comments to “i don’t wanna be yours?”
A) It seems like people have loved it! The song really has a different energy when we play it live.
Q) As this song is your third released single, is there a full-length album in the works?
A) There may or may not be an E.P on the way…
Q) What message do you hope listeners take away from not only “i don’t wanna be yours,” but from your music in general?
A) I try not to tie down a single thing that I want my listeners to take away from a song because I think it’s important for them to have their own ideas and interpretations about my songs. So, it’s really up to them!
Q) You’re currently gearing up for shows this summer in South Africa. What can fans look forward to with your live performances?
A) A lot of energy, dancing, chatting and a bunch of unreleased music!
Q) What songs do you love playing live the most?
A) I love “miss me” the most. That’s the song that started this whole journey so it’s awesome to see the audience’s reaction when I play the song.
Q) Who would you most love to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Jon Bellion for sure!
Q) What album/artist(s) are you currently listening to?
A) Sam Fender and Harry Styles. Legendsssss
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of your music?
A) Come along for the journey because there is so much more for us to do. We aren’t stopping anytime soon!
