Nicole (Katherine Barrell) struggles to remove the mystical, ambiguously aligned ring from Waverly’s (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) finger while the both of them also struggle to contain their desire for one another. Their inability to connect (that pesky ring) manifests in a theatrical display of grunts and moans that does little to ease the tension building between them. They come to the conclusion that the ring wants to belong to them, but that won’t doesn’t stop them from trying to remove it with excessive force. Nicole makes her way to the barn, interrupting coitus between Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) and Doc (Tim Rozon) – who are not at all shy when it comes to discussing their recreational activity of choice. But something’s not right. In the periphery, Bulshar (Jean Marchand) watches each and every exchange, quickly revealing that once again he enjoys watching his own work. Doc and Wynonna are bathed in a soft light, far too soft to be their reality. And that’s when it hits. It was all an illusion, a byproduct of Bulshar’s fairy dust. Bulshar and his minions watch the elaborate fantasy unfold while the physical bodies and Doc and Wynonna sit, paralyzed.

Nicole and Waverly find themselves back in “Patriarchal Bullshit Land” when they pay a visit to a revenant jeweler. He mentions the masculinity of Waverly’s new bling but fails to remove the impenetrable relic. Nicole and Waverly struggle to find a cover story for the ring’s fortitude and ancient inscription – but it’s too late. Magic recognizes magic. They flee, but it won’t be so easy to get rid of him. Elsewhere, in Dream Land, Wynonna and Doc travel through the pines discussing everything from tarot cards, to vampirism, to their relationship. Peacemaker buzzes from Wynonna’s side, rousing the two of them into consciousness. Wynonna returns to the earthly realm, but Doc is only half-present, there in body but not yet in mind. They are in the forest, yes, but not alone. Bulshar’s minions approach, followed by their leader. Wynonna resists Bulshar’s illusions, but he only takes her strength as a challenge. He blows another handful of dust into her face and she awakens from off the floor.

Peacemaker is till at Wynonna’s side, but Doc is not. Wynonna attempts to navigate through Bulshar’s curated world but finds herself shot through the heart with an arrow – again, and again, and again. Each time she makes a different choice, but still ends up dead. And each time a likeness of Doc is projected onto the wall – dirt gathering on his face with each repetitive death. The father of her child is buried alive for her mistakes. Such is the nature of life as a cursed heir. Through each and every death – Wynonna feels the pain. She always feels the pain. Though she aches, she begins to approach each hellacious Groundhog’s Day with more logic, more strategy. She counts her deaths and resurrections. Bulshar has condemned her to living the loop of a revenant. At last, the floor begins to melt – sending Wynonna into a new environment – a model of her home. Another test.

Waverly and Nicole make their way to the Gardner house, both fleeing from the jeweler and seeking relief from the ring’s vice grip on Waverly’s finger. Once inside they encounter a familiar face: Mercedes – the real one. Her face is tired and scarred, but still beautiful. Mercedes (Dani Kind) asks them about who’s been squatting in her home while she sought facial reconstruction and solicits Nicole’s help in cracking open her safe. The reunion is put on hold while the jeweler Derek enters Mercedes’ home and insists on taking Waverly’s new ring for himself. He threatens Mercedes so Nicole draws her gun on him, but he isn’t stopped until Waverly employs the ring’s powers and burns him until he falls to the ground. The three women retreat to the couch to discuss Waverly’s new powers and Mercedes’ despair at her “soiled” complexion. Waverly reaches out to caress Mercedes face – promising her that she’s still beautiful. This strange behavior may be a cause for caution so Mercedes does what anyone would do and insists Waverly put an oven-mitt on her magic hand.

Jeremy (Varun Saranga) phones Waverly to let her know that Robin’s eagle cam recorded suspicious activity in the forest, activity that might be related to Bulshar. He shares his location with the women and requests that they meet him there for further investigation. They saddle up and head on over to him. Jeremy and Waverly waste no time in identifying the mysterious staircase and they find the frozen, trapped hand of Bobo Del Rey (Michael Eklund). He is also stuck in Bulshar’s loop. Nicole hands out hatchets for the group to disentangle Bobo with. They succeed and wake him from the Bulshar induced coma. Bobo speaks in riddles, as he does, and tells the Scoobies that Wynonna and Doc are trapped under Bulshar’s spell.

Bulshar manages to trap Wynonna and Doc’s physical bodies within knotted roots deep in the forest, a perfect spot for them while he penetrates their minds and assaults their spirits. Wynonna and Doc are helpless against the simulation. They quickly discover that Doc is reliving his childhood, stuck beneath the house while a woman he loves is left to endure sickness and death. Doc confesses to Wynonna that Bulshar had come to him from between the trees and insist she help him in exchange for a reprieve. When he refused, he too sealed his fate with Wynonna – defeat Bulshar or die trying. Bulshar’s powers are limited to the sanctuary he can offer against the hells of his own creation, which is why he seeks the willing surrender of Wynonna and her assets. Wynonna takes this newfound knowledge and exits her doppleganger home.

Wynonna enters the mirage of her shed to find none other than Bobo Del Rey inside. Thinking that she’s cracked the code, Wynonna instantly uses Peacemaker to put him down. As he falls to his death, she awakens at the start of her loop once again. Wynonna tries again, and again. Each time Bobo dies – the proverbial snake eats its own head. Wynonna tries again, this time without Peacemaker. She approaches Bobo and pleads with him, hoping that he still has some shred of humanity left inside of him. She needs his help, but he’s not willing to give it. This time they kill each other. As they lay on the cold, hard ground dying together like they did once before, Wynonna begs him to remember Robert Svane. Bobo refuses. In his eyes, Bulshar has already won. Wynonna awakens on the floor of the homestead, again. She’s tired. Wynonna takes a break from all of the dying to tell Doc she never gave up on him and he says the same to her. He begs her to make one more attempt, for him, so she does. Wynonna is always trying to save the people she loves.

Wynonna returns to the barn in search of Bobo…but he’s nowhere to be found, after being liberated from Bulshar’s matrix. Frustrated, Wynonna exits the barn and immediately steps in front of Bulshar. Bulshar laments Doc’s refusal to join his side and eyes Peacemaker. Wynonna pulls the gun from its holster. Bulshar seems amused and tells her that Peacemaker will soon be his. Peacemaker, a part of the tower, who protects the almighty Garden. Wynonna attempts to shoot Bulshar but fails. Only the afflicted revenants can be stricken down by Peacemaker, but only Peacemaker can be willingly given to Bulshar. Invigorated, Wynonna turns away to pull Doc from beneath the homestead. They embrace, convinced that they’ve won. They exit the homestead, ready to face Bulshar. He tells them that that they’ve won – but his Royal Smugness can’t keep the charade up for long. They faux-vanquish him and open his red door of evil only to find that they’re right back where they started.

The heir is broken, but nevertheless she persists. Wynonna climbs the stairs and faces Bulshar. He tells her to surrender and when she refuses he gives her every reason to give up. Bulshar shows Wynonna her future – the graves of everyone she loves, freshly dug by her. All dead from her choices, from the curse she couldn’t break. The only way for them to escape their fate, the only way for Wynonna to be surrounded by those who love her, if for her to surrender Peacemaker to Bulshar. Not to punish them, but to save them. Bulshar reminds Wynonna that Peacemaker is the tower before he makes the graves of her friend talk to her. Doc begs Wynonna not to give in, but the voice of her sister relinquishes the last of her resolve. The only way to save them is to get rid of Peacemaker. Bulshar promises to let her family go, but he’s only letting Wynonna go.

Wynonna breaks. Peacemaker is gone.

In the real world, Bobo whispers to Waverly about his experience in “the upside down.” He tells Waverly that Bulshar broke him, he refused to fight any further. Waverly insists that Wynonna won’t break – but Bulshar doesn’t give up easily. As they prepare to search for Wynonna, Bobo looks at Waverly mitten hand and expresses shock that her father’s ring found her. The ring, formerly known as Bulshar’s, may have never truly belonged to him at all. The gang springs into action and traverses the forest in search of their hallucinating comrades. Waverly makes the first discovery, spotting Doc and then Wynonna. Nicole and Jeremy work on Doc while Waverly holds her sister. Doc asks Wynonna about Peacemaker, but he already knows what she’s done even if the others don’t.

Now warm from the flames back at the homestead (the real homestead), Wynonna is safe to tell Waverly the truth. Waverly tries her best to soothe Wynonna, but her sister has given up after giving in. Waverly decides to share the misery and tells her sister that the ring won’t leave her finger, but it might be the only weapon they have left. They laugh through their pain, but there’s a silver lining. At the Gardner house, Mercedes pulls the bandages from her face. Healed by Waverly’s magical touch.
