Young and Hungry – Young and Communication
By: Sammi Turano
The show opens with Gabi (Emily Osment) and Josh (Jonathan Sadowski) at his penthouse. She is whining that she doesn’t want to say goodbye. He doesn’t either, but says he is watching the premiere of “Game of Thrones” and she won’t know what is going on. He says it will be tough since it is their first night apart, but he kisses her and sends her on her way.
He jumps on the couch, seemingly excited to be alone, when Gabi comes in again, saying that, surprise, she is staying. She thinks it is a test to see if she would stay and watch his show or go home. He tells her he is sweet, but she won’t know what is going on and tries to tell her to go home. She keeps trying to stay and asks what you get if you win “Game of Thrones,” obviously not going anywhere.
Sofia (Aimee Carrero) gets up in the morning and realizes she is alone. She is dancing and singing in the kitchen when Gabi walks in. Sofia asks if she is staying, but she is really there to get some things so that she can spend more time at Josh’s place. She gushes over spending so much time with Josh yet feels like there is not enough time with him.
At the penthouse, Josh is telling Elliot (Rex Lee) that they spend so much time together and he wishes he can have some time alone…just one hour for himself. He asks if that makes him horrible, but Elliott says no as he is gorgeous and anyone would want time away from her. Josh goes on to say it is lovely spending so much time with Gabi, but he needs alone time. Elliot asks if it makes him feel smothered and like he wants to give men a try. However, he has a file on how to let Gabi down. Josh says it has to be nice.
Gabi is making a cake when Yolanda (Kym Whitley) walks in all dressed up. Elliot asks why she looks like an Oscar who ate a Golden Globe. She says she is hoping to meet a new neighbor to see if his Magic Mike is XXL. It turns out the neighbor is tWitch, the dancer/choreographer. Elliot wonders why he moved in after he got married. Yolanda snarks that is the reason why he will never hook up with tWitch. Elliot reminds her she is with Rabbi Ben, or as Yolanda calls him “Rabbi Has-Been.” Apparently, pork wasn’t the only thing he wouldn’t eat. She goes into the hallway to get her tWitch on and twerks away.
Josh comes in and sys something smells yummy. Gabi says since they did what he wanted last night so tonight they will watch “Cake Wars” since it is her favorite show. Elliott steps in and says Josh has plans. Josh has a hard time realizing that Elliot is helping him come up with an excuse to get out of being with Gabi. He says that Josh must have forgotten about the Bay Seal Swimmers. Josh finally plays along. The club is to save the bay, which in turn saves the seals and Josh needs training to swim to Alcatraz and back. Josh pretends to be disappointed, but Gabi says this makes her love him more.
That night Josh is planning his time alone while Gabi and Sofia plan to go to the movies. However, he is at his house and Gabi is dropping him off food for after swim practice. She tells Sofia this is what you do when you have a boyfriend. Sofia says when you don’t, you flirt with the high school guy at the counter to get free Milk Duds. Gabi texts Josh, saying she misses him. When he texts back, she asks for a picture, so he throws water on himself in order to make it seem like he just got out of the water.
The girls finally get ready to leave when they hear Josh screaming for Elliot. The girls hear them and hide, only to discover Josh’s secret plan. Elliot has a Speedo for Josh, even though he is not swimming. Elliot wants him to try it on anyway.
The next morning, Sofia brings Gabi pastries to make her feel better. Gabi thanks her for letting her cry on her white cashmere sweater. The girls sit down and Gabi says she realized that she likes time away from Josh, too. However, she wishes he would learn how to communicate. She tries to figure out a way to get him to admit he wants alone time without admitting she wants the same thing.
That night, they are in bed with Josh waiting for a sexy surprise. He thinks he is getting laid, but she wants to wax his chest hair. She asks if there is anything he wants to admit beforehand, but he says no and suffers through a waxing.
Yolanda is ironing and waiting for tWitch by the elevator and goes to greet him when she hears it ding. However, it is only Elliot, who tells her she’s been waiting for him for four days. She admits she’s done more work in those days than she has in a year. They hear a voice telling them to hold the elevator and realize it is tWitch (as himself)/ They run in after him and fall all over themselves trying to get his attention. tWitch freaks out and gets off the elevator quickly. Yolanda yells at Elliot for ruining things for her.
At the apartment, Sofia is ready to eat pizza in her undies when Gabi runs in saying nothing is working to get Josh to admit he lied. Sofia says Gabi should have listened to her and they come up with the idea of making him swim in the race anyway. Gabi goes to wake him up early in the morning, saying she is going to the race with him. At the race, Josh tells Elliot that he is freezing and wants to know how they can get this done quickly. Elliot tells him what to do, while Sofia calls Gabi to say that Josh is swimming in shark infested waters. Gabi doesn’t think he will do it, but she is surprised when he actually gets in the water. She screams that she killed the only man she ever loved.
Yolanda ends up in an elevator with tWitch and is all starstruck. He wants to talk to her because he feels there is heat between them and she is intoxicating and beautiful. He wants to get together and says she is his free pass…because he thinks she is Jackee [Harry]. She decides to go for it and they kiss.
Josh is waiting for Elliot at a buoy while Elliot is at another one. Josh thinks he is stupid for doing this plan while Elliot asks if the plan was stupid or if dating Gabi was stupid. Gabi asks for help, but it turns out she asked the Kettle Corn Guy for help instead of a lifeguard. Gabi is freaking out and thinks he will die. The Kettle Corn Guy admits his brother suffered the same fate. She thinks she should have told Josh she knew he was lying and Josh hears her. The Kettle Corn dude says he heard his brother’s voice for a year, then goes back to selling kettle corn.
Josh and Gabi both admit they love each other and should have told the truth and decide to have their alone time. They then admit they both like diagonal, but don’t realize they mean different types of diagonal.
The show ends with Elliot still in the water. Josh calls him and tells him to turn on the motor.
