Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) We are at heart a rock band, loud guitars, loud drums, etc.  However, there is a lot more that goes into our songwriting than meeting those requirements.  As songwriters, we try to incorporate modern day pop sensibilities into an alternative/classic rock sound.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We are inspired by countless artists. It’s so important to be able to derive influence from a diverse range of artists in order to create something special and new that catches a listeners ear and makes them say, “Wow, I’ve never heard anything like this before.” To name a few for example, Tom Petty, The Killers, Rancid, The Supremes & John Mayer.

Q) Your new song is “Coming Home.” Talk about the concept behind it.

A) “Coming Home” is a song that came to life after I lost my apartment in Hurricane Sandy. So, it’s has been lingering on our minds since as something we wanted to use.  At it’s core the concept questions what “home” means to us.  Is it truly a tangible thing or is it more of an abstract idea we’ve created to comfort us?

Q) What kind of fan response have you gotten to it?

A) It’s been really exciting to see our fans react to our new music. “Coming Home” in particular is a bit of a curveball from our first EP that introduces people to another dimension of Young Rising Sons.  I think it shows people there is a little more depth to us than they may have initially assumed.  All in all a very positive reaction.

Q) What is your process like for writing music? Do you need music before you can create your lyrics?

A) It’s a very organic process.  We write as a band; however, usually one of us will come in with an idea sometimes lyrical, sometimes musical and we will have an open forum until we have a piece of work we can all stand behind and be proud of.

Q) What is the feel and vibe for your new EP The Kids Will Be Fine?

A) To continue with the trajectory of “Coming Home,” The Kids Will Be Fine is a step a little bit deeper into who we are as a band and as individuals. It may initially come across a bit darker; however, it’s still a Young Rising Sons EP in that there remains a positive sentiment & outlook.

Q) How much of a hand have you had in the production of your music?

A) We have had an integral part of the production.  As producers ourselves it’s nice to be able to come in with ideas that we can incorporate into what we are doing in the studio.

Q) Fans are really enjoying your song “F**ked Up.” What is it about that track that fans are really connecting with?

A) I think the biggest part of “F**ked Up” is that we have all been there.  No relationship is perfect and most are far from that.  I believe people can very much relate to the sloppy modern day love saga told in “F**cked Up.”

Q) You are headed out on the Let The Kids Riot tour. What can fans expect from a live Young Rising Sons show?

A) We give everything we possibly can to our live show and do our best to give our songs new life for those who come out to see us.  We will be doing something we have never tried with one of our new songs on this tour and are very excited to engage the audience in a new way.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) We are all huge fans of all of Butch Walker’s work.  Would be an honor to work with him.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way to connect with your fans?

A) The internet and social media are a breeding ground for negativity and bullying among kids.  It’s important to us to be a positive influence and presence for not just our fans, but for everyone.  Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, etc. they all give us platforms to not only connect with our fans, but spread positive vibes in an otherwise pretty unruly environment.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?

A) Thank you for believing in us. Whether you’ve been with us since day one or are hearing our music for the first time today, we are a family and are honored to have you be a part of it.
