The season premiere opens with Sheldon (Iain Armitage) screaming because his sister Missy gave him cinnamon gum. His dad (Lance Barber) is reading the paper and wondering why his son is screaming and drinking from the sink. He dismisses it while Adult Sheldon (Jim Parsons) narrates about how people think he is overly sensitive. He thinks he has heightened senses.
This leads to him yelling at his brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) to put his shoes on and complain about eating sounds at dinner with his family. However, there is a buzzing that is annoying him more than anything—the fridge. His mom (Zoe Perry) asks what’s wrong and he says it is the noise. He wonders why he is the only one that can hear it. Missy (Raegen Revord) says it is coming out of his face. He wants to call a repairman, but his father tells him to ignore it. Adult Sheldon says this isn’t his strong suit, fixating on problems is more his speed.
While he is in bed he complains the sound is alternating between B and B sharp. Missy thinks he is nuts and offers to put a pillow on his face. Sheldon says that is dangerous. He wants earplugs, but Missy says that if they had any she would be wearing them and to go to sleep. She suggests he put his fingers in his ears, but he thinks that will push the wax back into his ear canal. Missy ignores him and puts her own fingers in her ears. He goes to Meemaw’s (Annie Potts), but she is less than pleased and kicks him out.
At school, he tells his friend Tam (Ryan Phuong) about his problem. Tam tells about how his uncle disemboweled his torturers with a bamboo spike. Sheldon decides to repair the fridge by getting a book.  The topic then switches to a girl named Jessica who wears a black bra.
At home, Missy wonders what Sheldon is doing as he prepares to fix the fridge. It ends up being a disaster with his mom freaking out and Missy saying she warned him not to do it. The real repairman comes and says it will cost $200 to fix. George wants to use the spare, but Mary donated it to the needy. Sheldon has to earn the money for the repair, causing him to cry and Missy to hug him.
Missy wants to know who the new favorite child is, but Mary says there are no favorites. Sheldon tells the family he is going to be a paperboy, but Mary thinks it is too dangerous. Georgie has to teach him how to do it. Missy snarks that he will do it, even if he doesn’t want to. Sheldon wakes Georgie up for his first paperboy lesson. Of course, Georgie has no interest and Sheldon wants each paper to be just so.
George and Mary are also up, wondering how Sheldon will do. Mary is worried, but Georige thinks he will be fine. Sheldon freaks out over ink on his hands, but recovers enough to wash his hands and deliver the papers—wearing a helmet. While working, he runs into Billy (Wyatt McClure) who wants to work with chickens. All the while, Mary is watching him and crying from her car. The next day, it is raining as he continues with his job.
A week later he is collecting money. He visits Mrs. Sparks (Melissa Peterman) and says tipping is customary. He snarks at the money and she snipes back that he was always late and not as brave as he thinks. The job wears on him as he begins fighting with Missy, Derek (Nick Lavarez) and Tam. He even brings coffee with him to school saying he has a job, but it is killing him. Tam also has a job, but Sheldon thinks it doesn’t count because he is at a cash register in his parents’ restaurant.
At dinner, the family talks about Chi Chis, Sizzler and Payless. Sheldon is still in a bad mood and snaps at his family. He runs to his room with George following. They have a nice talk, which Adult Sheldon says led to him never being abusive or irritating to loved ones.
The show ends with Billy doing the paper route.
