Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I describe my sound as Bubble Rock, a cross between Gaga and Joan Jett. A sweet and salty cotton candy organized mess.

Q) What musicians and artists inspired you to become a singer?

A) There are so many artists that inspired me to become a singer! I listened to everything from “Oops…I Did it Again” Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to Nirvana to Led Zeppelin to Rick James. I just ate it all up. Though, I have to say it started with my parents. They were in a band so I grew up in dive bars, going to their rehearsals catered by Arco AMPM’s very own hot dogs and Gatorade and seeing them perform every week was incredibly inspiring. I saw the hard work that went into it and the amazing shows that resulted.

Q) What was the inspiration behind your upcoming single “Invisible?”

A) “Invisible” was written about my last breakup and, ironically, is being release on Valentine’s Day. It’s about feeling lonely in a relationship and is really just an honest wave goodbye. It’s saying that I felt invisible so now you’re invisible to me. It’s everything I should have realized sooner.

Q) When did the idea for “Invisible” begin?

A) “Invisible” began in my living room with my best friend, Dre DiMura, after a show we played together in Hollywood the night before. We were hungover, painted our toes, watched movies, talked about our exes and somehow by the end of the night this song had fallen together in such a natural way. I had literally just broken up with my boyfriend and this song was basically my closure.

Q) How long did it take you to finish the song?

A) We wrote it one Friday night and produced it the next day using whatever we had lying around; a can of oatmeal for the shaker, the back of the acoustic guitar as the kick in the beginning, an old snare drum and some paint brushes. We just wanted everything about the song to be honest and simple. The whole writing process was kind of seamless and came together fairly quickly. It was only later that we decided to add live drums and proper mixing, which always takes the longest for me.

Q) How do you feel that this song shows your growth as an artist?

A) I think this song allows me to be vulnerable and has pushed me to open up about such a personal situation, which I’m typically not the best at. I don’t usually like to share this side of me but it feels good to step out of my comfort zone!

Q) What is your creative process like? Do you need melody before you can come up with lyrics?

A) Not necessarily. The process for me is different every time. The mood and flow of the song will lead the way. Sometimes melody comes first, sometimes lyrics come first and I’ll modify them to accommodate the melody as it develops, sometimes a beat will come first. I mostly try to listen and follow whatever I’m hearing in my head.

Q) What message would you give to someone right now who may be going through something and is listening to your music for comfort?

A) I want the listener to know they’re not alone and that whatever struggles they’re experiencing in this moment will pass. Life is full of ups and downs and embracing each moment, living in it and learning from it will only help you grow! Love the quirks about you, welcome the mess, enjoy your differences, embrace your madness!

Q) Do you think music is a form of escapism for people who are going through struggles and how do you hope your music connects to fans?

A) Absolutely. I think all forms of art and entertainment are really. Music offers comfort and healing. It’s a glance through another lens, a new perspective. It allows you to say the things you might never have otherwise and brings people together in that way. It gives your fears, your woes, your joys a voice and allows you to indulge in them for just a few brief minutes until the song is over. Maybe it’s just me!

Q) How important is it for you to have social media and interact with your fans?

A) Social media has been such a useful tool for me! I love hearing from friends and fans and connecting. It’s such a great way to communicate and is super important for me! Beyond communication, it has also allowed me to express myself visually and I’m having so much fun with that!

Q) What’s been your career highlight so far?

A) Career highlights for me have been playing sold out shows like Warped Tour, opening for The Darkness and Drake Bell. The personal highlights are the conversations I’ve had with fans who have shared their stories with me and let me know that my music was helping them through their drug addiction or empowering them in certain ways. Those moments stick out to me the most!

Q) Who would your dream collaboration be with?

A) Omg so many dream collaborations!I would love to work with Linda Perry, Bonnie McKee, Mark Ronson, Jesse Rutherford, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Justin Tranter, Ryan Tedder, Charlie Puth, Taylor Swift and the list goes on and on! There are so many. I want all of the collaborations!

Q) When can fans expect a full EP or album from you?

A) I can’t make any official announcements about an album just yet, but I will say I have a collection of new singles on deck for this year and I’m very excited to release new music!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?

A) Thank you for being here, listening, reading and being on this crazy journey with me! You have a purpose, you matter and you are capable of anything. It’s better to be different!
