Alexander – Alexander EP

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I’d describe it as pop with an edge and some electronic elements.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I grew up listening to a lot of Classic Rock like Queen and Led Zeppelin. As a teenager, I started being heavily influenced by Blink 182, New Found Glory and MxPx.

Q) What is the song writing process like for you? Do you need music before you create the lyrics?

A) I always start with the melody of a song. It’s got to be something that gets stuck in my head. Then, I pick up a guitar or go to my piano and start adding a chord progression. I will actually just kind of spit out random words that don’t make any sense just to get the ideas out on my phone or computer. Next, I’ll start adding lyrics and think about what I want the song to be about.

Q) What have been some of the fans favorite songs off the Alexander EP?

A) “Comin’ For You” for sure! I think it’s the stand alone track on the EP and something my fans aren’t expecting. It’s aggressive and talks about rising above all the negativity I was battling when I first moved to Nashville.

Q) What do you think it is about your new song “Can’t Sleep Without You” that fans are really connecting to?

A) I would think it’s because it’s such an easy song to relate to. Everyone has felt loneliness and lost someone they loved. I think it’s easy during the day with technology to be distracted from your feelings. It’s at night when you’re by yourself that you’re stuck with your own thoughts.

Q) How does the video play into the message of the song?

A) I wanted to paint a picture of someone that just went through a breakup and is lying in bed and can’t sleep. They’re tossing and turning relentlessly and can’t find peace. They decide to get out of the house and just drive. The lyrics help paint the picture with lines like, “These lonely lights, took the long way home just to clear my mind.”

Q) How much of a hand do you personally have in the production of your music?

A) I’m heavily involved in every aspect. Being in the studio is one of the best parts of being an artist. We would spend about eight hours a day in the studio and just shoot out ideas and I’d always let my producer know if I didn’t like something. All my songs start with piano or guitar and then I’ll send them to Christian Fiore, my producer. We would talk about the vibe of the song and where we want it to go. From there, we start working on the tracks and programming. I will usually play the guitar or piano parts as well on the songs unless it’s such a simple part that it doesn’t matter. As an artist, I want to be authentic as possible and not just known as a singer.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Alexander performance?

A) They can expect to have a lot of fun! I’m not the type to just stand and sing. I always try to engage the crowd and make them feel like there isn’t a stage between us. Our live show consists of a drummer and a DJ/programmer. With having a DJ on stage, we have the ability to mix other songs into the set and just do whatever we want to. Every show is going to be different and make people want to keep coming back.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from checking out the EP?

A) I hope that they can relate to the things I’ve felt through these songs and want to hear more about my story. It’s just the beginning!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’m been pretty obsessed with Jack U and would love to write a song with them for their next album.

Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?

A) Honestly, just tell your friends! Word of mouth is still the most powerful way to promote something.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s incredibly important because it allows me to update my fans at any time and also interact with people all over the world. With Facebook Live, I can stream my shows and fans can watch from anywhere!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?

A) Thank you for supporting and believing in me! I would be nothing without you. You are what keeps me going on this crazy journey and I hope to meet every single one of you one day.
