“American Idol: returned to Hawaii last week for another year of final judgement. And this year’s trip sadly holds a little bit more of an escape because of the current Cornonavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We opened with a message of solidarity and hope from host Ryan Seacrest about our current situation and to inform us that this trip was filmed in January to erasure America that “Idol” is taking this situation seriously.

Part one of the Final Judgement had a surprise or two on who made it into the Top 20 so far. So, lets get down to it down below!

Nick Merico- 18; Woodland Hills, CA; “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars; Nick has had some proving to do to the judges since his audition this year. After skipping out on last years competition, he’s gone further than and the judges thought he would. Nick is in the Top 20!

Makayla Brownlee- 17; Wellington, KS; “More Hearts Than Mine” by Ingrid Andress; After a health scare in Hollywood, Makayla is back to show the judges what she’s got up her sleeve. Except what she has is a popular country tune that she altered too much and it became her downfall. She’s not moving forward.

Dewayne Crocker, Jr.- 23; Pensacola, FL; “Old Town Road (Remix)” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus; As Lionel said, “Sometimes gimmicks work” and boy did Dewayne’s gimmick of performing “Old Town Road” in his best Lil Nas X cosplay work out for him. Dewayne is in the Top 20!

Camryn Leigh Smith- 16; Acworth, GA; “Break Every Chain” by Tasha Cobbs Leonard; Another risk taker, Camryn decided to sing a gospel song and play into her strength as a worship leader, a choice that sadly doesn’t pay off. Camryn is not moving forward.

Geena, Jordan Jones and Devon Alexander are all not moving forward as well. The judges made a big mistake with Geena in my opinion.

Louis Knight- 19; Philadelphia, PA; “Castle on the Hill” by Ed Sheeran; Our British heartthrob is here in Hawaii and ready to rock the stage! He had a messy rehearsal but he had a solid performance but the judges wanted a little bit more. They tell him that from now on use his heart and “sing for Russell.” Louis is in the Top 20!

Francisco Martin- 19; San Francisco, CA; “Falling” by Harry Styles; MY FAVORITE CONTESTANT! I truly believe he has a chance of winning. The nerves are gone. He is now A STAR! Watch the performance for yourself and see because Francisco earned his spot in the Top 20!

Jovin Webb- 29; Gonzales, La; “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray Lamontagne; Jovin has wowed the judges from the beginning and his performances in Hawaii was no different. His stage presence is top notch and he’s in our Top 20!

Faith Becnel- 20; Destrehan, La; “Ain’t Nobody” by Rufus and Chaka Khan; Faith is a natural performer but in my opinion she’s still uses too much staccato (in non-singer terms, too pointed or robotic). The judges though see promise in her so she’s officially in the TOP 20!

Amber Fiedler- 23; Coeur d’Alene, ID; “Good Kisser” by Lake Street Dive; Amber has been through a lot in this competition. From being a pregnant auditioner to a new mother who gave the baby up for an open adoption, she’s been full of highs and lows both emotionally and professionally. She suffered a rough duet during Hollywood week and barely scraped by getting to this point and even after a good performance, it still wasn’t enough to move forward.

Just Sam- 21; Harlem, NY; “Como La Flor” by Selena; Just Sam takes a HUGE risk and sings a song in a foreign language that she doesn’t speak fluently and yet she does it FLAWLESSLY! Just watch this performance and see how she earned her spot in the Top 20!

Jonny West- 23; Murrieta, CA; “You Found Me” by The Fray; This is Jonny’s first step in the competition without girlfriend/possible fiancé Margie Mays. He’s scared but he knows he can’t blow this opportunity so he’s giving it his all. He’s a magnetic performer and even with a lackluster performance in my opinion, he still scored a spot in the Top 20!

Dillon James- 26; Bakersfield, CA; “The Times They Are A-Changin’” by Bob Dylan; An online favorite of this season, the “Post Malone- Cowboy” is still constantly inspiring and incredibly talented! His voice and musicianship is amazing!! “Idol: did us dirty and left us on a huge cliffhanger but we all know he will make it through.
