ABC’s “American Idol” is continuing to shake it up! This year they are forgoing the dreaded group rounds for DUETS!

Francisco Martin and Luis Knight The Script’s “Breakeven”; These two fan favorites and heatthrobs are very good together. Francisco is still a bit nervous, but he has his buddy Luis to help him through this. The judges, of course, still love both of them very much so it’s no surprise that both Francisco Martin and Luis Knight go through to the next round.

Jimmy Levy and Nick Merico Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved?”; I found this an unlikely pairing and so did the judges, but Lionel said it right when he complimented them on just how well they blended. We will see how far they will go after this because both Jimmy Levy and Nick Merico make it to the next round of Hollywood Week.

Madison Paige and Peyton Aldridge Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson’s “Don’t You Wanna Stay”; Well, this duet pairing is composed of two contestants we haven’t seen before and so, of course, it’s off to a very rocky start and continues to be rocky throughout. After Peyton disappears from his partner for a good thirty minutes to get some gas station chicken wings and gets confronted by mentor Bobby Bones, the pair finally gets to work. They struggle because after a sound check with the pianist Peyton decides he wants to do the song with his guitar for the performance. Except he doesn’t tell the pianist, so instead he interrupts the intro. This duet wasn’t very good and it’s by the grace of God and the grace of Lionel and Katy that Madison Paige and Peyton Aldridge advance to the next round after Peyton publicly apologizes and takes responsibility.

Zack Dobbins and Courtney Timmons– Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman”; Another strange combo – the country boy who auditioned on a promise and the girl who just walked in from the street without producer rounds. This pairing seemed doomed from the start. After changing their song three different times, Courtney makes the executive decision to do the Ari hit. Sadly, this decision and the complete lack of interest in this competition from Zack cost not only her but both of them as they won’t be moving on.

Genavieve Linkowski and Travis Finlay Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer; Genavieve struggles with duets since the death of her sister last year but you’d never know that with this performance because WOW! It’s magic. This is a truly beautiful performance. Both Genavieve Linkowski and Travis Finlay are going through!

Kat Lopez and “Space Cowboy” Alex Garrido– Lauren Daigle’ “You Say” ; The couple that was so in love they wouldn’t stop holding hands surely joined forces to sing a popular song on this year’s show. Their performance was pretty good, but the judges seemed to think that Alex was lacking in this particular instance. The judges let Kat Lopez advance and sadly we say goodbye to our “Space Cowboy” Alex.

Margie Mays and Jonny WestMeghan Trainer and John Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”; Margie is back at Hollywood Week! I love her so much and even if she doesn’t win I really hope she finds a way to find success with Jonny! Speaking of Jonny, he’s feeling exhausted and anxious and this week is taking a toll on him. The performance was great to me, but the judges were hesitant. They decide that this performance will NOT be the last for Margie Mays and Jonny West because they are moving on! Let’s hope they take Katy’s advice and not succumb to losing sight of the goal not only together but individually.

Cyniah Elise and Makayla PhillipsCeline Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer”; These two powerhouse young women decided to team up after a few missed opportunities but boy was it a GREAT idea to team up! After some tough rehearsal, they go to perform pitch perfect. They are absolutely incredible together, so it’s no surprise that both Cyniah Elise and Makayla Phillips make it to the next round.

Just Sam and Sheniel MaisonetShawn Mendes’s “Mercy”; Fan favorite Just Sam partnered up with newcomer Sheniel. Sam is feeling very anxious and scared. After suffering and getting through a few emotional moments and panic attacks, she gets through it and offers up a performance that the judges think was incredible. In Luke’s words, they both get better and better. So, Just Sam and Sheniel Maisonet are both moving on to the next round.
