Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would say my sound is soulful and uplifting-with pop, country and R&B influences!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I have SO many, but some of my top influences are Martina McBride, Aretha Franklin, John Mayer and Allen Stone. I love different things about all of these artists specifically. Mayer for his songwriting and ability to capture specific emotions within a song, Martina for her vocal range and how uplifting she is with her music, Aretha for her soul and vocal control, and Allen Stone because his music just makes you so happy!

Q) Your sophomore album Krysalis is out now. Where does the title come from?

A) I knew I wanted the album to be about growth, and what better creature to demonstrate growth better than a caterpillar into a butterfly? So, the word “chrysalis” came up and I loved it immediately but wanted to make it more unique, so we changed the spelling to reflect my last name, Kry. And that’s how the title “Krysalis” was born.

Q) What are some themes you explore on this new album?

A) Self-acceptance, identity crisis, finding yourself, infertility, the pandemic, alcoholism, the music industry and love, of course. There’s an array of different themes I wanted to go through in this album. It is definitely a roller coaster of emotions.

Q) Which songs challenged you the most creatively?

A) For me the song “Solid Ground” was hard for me to pinpoint at first as far as the production I wanted. It’s such a poignant message that I wanted to get across. But my producers, Jeff and Luka of 9AM music, really hit it on the head!

Q) Which of the tracks hold a special place in your heart and what makes them so significant to you?

A) “Seven Or Seventeen” is definitely the song that means the most to me on the album because it’s dedicated to my baby boy, Caeden. I wrote it right after I found out I was pregnant with him after struggling to conceive.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Not necessarily. It truly depends on the people and the vibe of the room. Some days we build the track first, some days I have a full verse and title written out and we go off of that. It’s actually one of the reasons I love songwriting. It’s different every time!

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I like to be heavily involved in the creative process. This one was a little different, as I wasn’t able to be there physically for everything because I recorded this in the middle of the pandemic. But I was in constant communication with my producers out in LA about what I wanted to hear sonically for this album.

Q) With Krysalis out now, will there be an upcoming tour to promote your new music?

A) I would absolutely LOVE that, but right now I am staying local and doing what I can via social media.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from exploring your new music on Krysalis?

A) I hope when they listen to it, it inspires them and makes them think deeply. I hope it sparks creativity and joy. That’s all I can hope for!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would absolutely love to collaborate with Caitlyn Smith one day. She is someone I really look up to and I just love her writing and her as an artist!

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I really love Lennon Stella’s album Three. Two. One. It has such a great mix of songs on it and her voice is so easy to listen to. She’s such a talent.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I think it’s the only way us as independent artists are able to connect with our fans in this day and age. I have a love/hate relationship with social media. I think most people do. But I do appreciate that we have this platform that is literally at our fingertips to promote our art. People didn’t have that back in the day. You were either signed to a label or your music didn’t get heard. That is not the case anymore and I am trying to take full advantage of that.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you for supporting my art, and I hope you can take something positive away from it. My only goal is to inspire people with my music and use my voice for good!
