Q) You stepped onto the stage of the Apollo Theater at just ten years old. How did that shape the artist you are today?
A) I was so young and I will always remember the moment I stepped on stage I realized it was sink or swim at that moment. I ended up giving it my all during that performance and have been full steam ahead since.
Q) Your music is often described as country, but how would you describe the music that you make?
A) It’s definitely country, but I always put a Bailey twist to my music. I love to bring out the sassy lyrics and love to perform them that way. Also, “Rock A Bye Baby” takes familiar nursery rhymes and turns them into a revenge anthem.
Q) Where did that idea come from? Did it start with a particular lyric?
A) Jonathan Upchurch started writing this song and contacted me and was like, “This is the perfect song.” I fell in love with it and we worked together with my producer to bring it to life.
Q) What has the reaction to “Rock A Bye Baby” been like so far?
A) People are loving it. Great feedback so far. They love the sass it brings. Mary’s character reaches a breaking point.
Q) What advice would you give to women who are going through any type of betrayal?
A) Well, I’m not sure I’d go to Mary’s extreme, but I definitely think that women should not put up with anything that brings them down.
Q) If Mary’s story had a sequel song, where do you think Mary would be?
A) I think Mary would be living her best life, enjoying the freedom that came from getting rid of someone who didn’t respect her.
Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can craft the lyrics?
A) No, it can come either way. Sometimes I start with lyrics and sometimes it’s a melody first. Every writing session is different.
Q) What have you learned over the years about performing and connecting with audiences?
A) Connection is the most important thing. I try to stay energetic and keep the crowd going.
Q) With major festival appearances coming up this summer, what are fans going to see from your live show?
A)A very energetic Bailey show full of my new originals.
Q) What song are you most excited to perform live for a festival crowd and why?
A) My new song “Rock A Bye Baby” – just because it’s such an empowering song.
Q) You also have acting experience. Will we be able to see you on our screens again soon?
A) I really hope so. I audition a lot, so hopefully the right role with come along soon.
Q) Who would you love to work with on screen or as a music collaboration?
A)I’d love to work with Ella Langley. I feel that we are so much alike – very down to earth and very much just ourselves regardless of on stage or off.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and the music you make?
A) Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I couldn’t do this without my fans’ support and I’m forever thankful.
