The episode starts with a drug making sequence. It is the new addictive substance being distributed in Gotham. There is a voiceover by Vesper Fairchild (Rachel Maddow) describing it as “snake bite” that is apparently super lethal and dangerous. The guy consuming it sees Batwoman (Javicia Leslie) and thinks it´s a hallucination. She tells him he´s throwing his life away and that it will kill him, but he says that´s the point.

After getting the information on who the dealer is, Ryan chases the guy on the Batmobile, but before she catches him there is an ongoing pain in her chest from where she was shot with a kryptonite bullet. She looses control for a moment but quickly recovers. She asks who his boss is as she wants to cut the head of the snake off. However, an alarm goes off. She goes to a jewelry shop, but it was all a set up from a little boy. His brother Kevin (Eli Tsepsio Larmour) has not been back from school and has been missing for three months.

Back at the crows headquarters Jacob (Dougray Scott) is giving a press conference to inform the media that there is evidence pointing to Kate (Ruby Rose) being alive. He believes she survived the crash or that perhaps she was not even on the plane in the first place. This is being viewed by the bat team, Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang). However, they have different opinions on the matter. Luke still has hope and Mary does not think they can trust the source of the information. Ryan arrives and asks Mary to help her on a mission, looking for the boy that went missing. She says the cops are not looking for him because he´s black. And then we find out some of Ryan´s past. There is a flashback of her as a little girl (Ava Augustin). She was in a group home. There is a knock on the window and no one opens it. Her and young Angelique (Kerensa Cooper) instantly become best friends and have each other´s backs.

Mary and Ryan take a field trip in Ryan´s van. They talk about how she actually lives in it. They stop by a comic book stand and Ryan has another flashback. We see someone named Candice Long, better known as Candy Lady (Linda Kash), trying to lure her into her car. She gets taken and tells Mary what happened back there.

At Sophie´s (Meagan Tandy) apartment she finds Alice (Rachel Skarsten) in her kitchen making breakfast. Sophie immediately points her gun at her and asks her what she´s doing. Alice resists at first, but eventually tells her that she was given a mission to find someone named “Ocean” so they could have Kate back and that they should work together. Sophie is reluctant at first, but she agrees.

Ryan and Mary go back to the Batcave talking about the candy lady that is taking kids to sell to gangs and how she does not need to be a shadow because she is taking kids no one cares about. She´s a blue eyed suburban housewife who she captures by spraying something in their faces. Mary asks her what she did to her. There is another flashback to where she was taken. But she has gone through so much she had not thought about it since. And it was all connected to Beth´s disappearance because they were looking for her when Ryan thought she was being rescued.

Sophie and Alice are still at her apartment looking for Ocean, but do not get very far without a last name. Alice tries to get in her head by saying that she´s haunted by Kate´s disappearance, but before they finish the conversation someone knocks. It´s Luke and Alice opens the door to point a gun at him.

At Kate´s loft they start going through voices all over the place. Apparently Mary was starting to move in and asks Ryan to do the same – they should live together. They talk about how everyone stopped looking for Beth once, but Kate never did. We also find out that young Angelique is the one that rescued her back then. Mary says that if she was there she should get in contact with her and ask her if she remembers something. They find a map of the route that was looking for Beth and Ryan goes in, but not as Batwoman. She arrives at Candice´s house and gets taken again.

Sophie and Luke are now working to find Ocean as well, but when he finds something they do not let Alice know it turns out she is meant to kill him but had not disclose that to them.  She goes with Luke to the address they found, but before she can do anything adult Angelique (Bevin Bru) comes from behind her and they start fighting until Alice shows up.

Ryan is trying to fight what she was sprayed with. She finds a way to loose herself from the restraint; however, she still does not tell her where Kevin is. Jacob is meeting someone that claims to have information about Kate´s plane, but gets electrocuted before anything else. But he is saved by Batwoman when she finally finds Kevin she´s able to make him come around. Also, Ryan´s bullet wound is getting a lot worse, but she has not told anyone about it. She gets a text and goes to the bar to find Angelique. Ryan tells her that Batwoman caught the Candy Lady and that she misses the girl that always had her back.
