The episode starts by addressing the big elephant in the room and giving us the answer on how the show is going to deal with Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) being gone. While she was in National City visiting Kara (Melissa Benoist) talking about the usual, you know Kryptonite and stuff, the plane that she was flying back in crashed in the middle of Gotham right in front of newcomer Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) while she was sort of talking to her plants.

She finds the Batwoman suit in the plane crash rubble while she is trying to help a passenger. However, the CPR does not work and he dies, triggering memories of her mom. We then see Ryan trying on the suit and attempting to figure it out. She finds some men and masks, accidentally shooting one. She apologizes right away, saying she legit did not mean to do it. We see the first fight sequence of the season. We also learn that Ryan knows Martial Arts while flashing back to seeing her talk to a counselor about getting her life back on track. Her skills come in handy while fighting this guys. She explains to the counselor that no one wants to hire someone that was in jail, even if she did not commit the crime she was accused of.

Back at the Wayne mansion Bruce (Warren Christie) is getting into some shenanigans with some girls. Good thing Alice (Rachel Skarsten) crashes the party. Bruce asks her if she is mourning because of the whole outfit she´s wearing. Alice is not happy with the question, so she kills one of Bruce´s guests. He asks, “What the hell did you do that for?” She replies, “No reason. No reason at all.” We kinda get an answer to a big question from last season though what is Alice’s endgame? Bruce says she could have killed Kate at any moment, but we learn that all she wanted was for her father to kill Batwoman with the kryptonite.

Jacob (Dougray Scott) goes back to the scene where the plane crashed to try and get some answers, but he is not allowed to intervene. Good thing Sophie (Meagan Tandy) was already there and she says they will look together.

Jacob goes back to Wayne Mansion and finds Alice playing the piano, so he points his gun at her and she is unbothered. She then drops some facts on him and tells him that Kane was Batwoman and that she died knowing her father hated her. He doesn’t believe it at first, but slowly comes to the realization.

We find Sophie at Kate’s apartment. She walks around it and finds a sweater that she holds close. Julia (Christina Wolfe) walks in. Sophie says that she is looking for clues, something that can tell her what happened. Julia asks if the Jomper seems dangerous. It seems like Kate had a safe in case something like this happened, but refuses to tell Sophie where that is.

From the Batcave Mary (Nicole Kang) and Luke (Camrus Johnson) are trying to track Kate as they have not been able to get a hold of her since she went to National City, but the suit is not on and she is not answering her phone. This is getting them concerned Luke is monitoring the plane she is supposed to be in, until it gets tracked to the one that just crashed, leaving them with no idea what to do. They are hoping the suit will protect her, but there is almost no chance she was wearing it.

Back to Ryan where we see a flashback that shows her and her mom moving to a new place, which is very nice. However, as we move forward it turns violent and sad. We get to see glimpses at her mom’s murder and her getting beat up by a gang. And not just any gang…We later find out they have a bigger connection to Gotham’s biggest criminal in charge. But we’ll get back to it.

Bruce appears at Wayne Enterprises. He visits Luke and is acting a bit weird. He immediately wants to get into the Batcave but has no idea what is the key. Luke doesn’t think much of it and allows him in. He also gives him the kryptonite that Kate got from Kara.

We see Sophie on the stairs with a sad look, getting affected by what happened to Kate. Julia shows up and asks if she can join her. Sophie says she prefers it and holds her hand. There is this lingering of unfinished business in their relationship which is understandable. You can tell Sophie still has feelings for Kate.

Meanwhile, the suit comes back online. Mary and Luke are able to follow Ryan to an underground tunnel, but instead of giving it back immediately she has some business to attend to, after giving a very emotional speech about how she is a foster child and just a number to the system she grew up in. But she was the number one to the woman that adopted her, so she is trying to avenge her dead family. She says she’ll give it back when her mother’s killer is dead. Before Luke and Mary can say anything, she is gone. So, this is when we find out that the leader of the gang that killed her mom is none other than Alice…and Ryan is going after her.

And being the bright person that she is, Julia knows that the Bruce Wayne she runs into at the Crows headquarters is not the person she knows. When he forgets her dad’s codename she puts two and two together. She runs a fingerprint test and she tells Luke and Mary that this is Tommy Elliott, better known as Hush.

It’s a little late though because he´s already inside the Batcave getting his hands on all kinds of weapons. Mainly, he went back for the Batmobile and until now we had no idea it was there. Oh, and did I mention he also has the kryptonite? So, he goes after the suit. In this case, that means Ryan because she is the one that has it. They engage in a chase, so she starts driving and talking to the suit asking if Batman is actually chasing her. She states that if it is the suit he wants then he can have it. She´ll just throw it out the window. Luke hacks into the car and stops him, forcing him to go after her on foot. He shoots her with the kryptonite and they start fighting. Then, Ryan literally punches his face off and says it’s over.

Ryan goes back to the Wayne building and returns the suit to Luke and Mary. She says it’s not bulletproof and that she is not worthy of it. Before they can try and convince her, she leaves.

Back at the crash site Julia goes to Sophie and gives her a letter that was inside Kate’s safe with her name on it. She reads the letter and it is Kate confessing that she is Batwoman and that she loves her. She explains that she lied to protect her and that she knew she was close to finding out.

At the end of the episode we have Alice finding a message from Safiyah (Shivani Ghai) sort of confessing that she is responsible for the plane crash, which gives her a new purpose. Then, she goes and cuddles with Mouse’s dead body. We also see Ryan’s bullet wound kind of move. In her words: What the hell was that?
