We open on Hollow Sky’s lab and the place is a mess with pools of blood on the floor. Tess Shoemacher (Erika Alexander) enters and surveys the damage. She checks the computer system, which confirms that all the clients in cryo chambers are gone. She continues to walk around the devastation and encounters an elevator stuck open by a security guard’s severed arm. His body inside the elevator itself. The lab assistant Holly (Natalie Moon) sees Shoemacher and tells her that the subjects are all gone. Shoemacher responds questioning where it is they went.

Luke (Jonathan Whitesell) is meeting Special Agent Gale Borden (Amy Farrington) at the café. She realizes that he has not spoken to his mother about coming to meet her. He wants to know what the agent has uncovered in her investigations of Hollow Sky. She tells him about her investigation of Isaac Frost, of Hollow Sky’s search for people with special abilities, the machine and about Arthur. She then asks if Holden has been exhibiting any strange behavior.

Luke explains what happened with Hollow Sky, Holden’s kidnapping and the bugging of their home but Agent Borden quickly shushes him while she gets her note book and Luke promises to tell her the location of their hidden compound if they raid the place. Charlie (Eden Brolin) and Holden (Burkely Duffield) are buying rather a lot of candy from a discount store we find out that this is somehow part of a plan to break Edgar out of the institution. Jeff (Jeff Pierre) joins them dropping some diapers into the shopping cart. They’ve worked out a plan to break out Edgar today as he will likely be in the recreation room. Holden is worried about what Edgar might be capable of.

The Man In The Yellow Jacket (Peter Kelamis) is back at the Hollow Sky lab asking why Frost was the only person in a cryogenic tank that did not wake up and walk away. Shoemacher seems much less concerned about the whole and she reminds TMITYJ that they are here to protect the company and the two argue back and forth until TMITYJ reveals that the Matthews’ family has contacted the FBI about Hollow Sky and their surveillance and that the investigation seems to be moving forward quickly.

Pastor Ian (Chad Willett) confronts Diane (Romy Rosemont) as she is heading to her car in a parking structure. He says his feelings for her are true he tries to apologise. Eventually Diane reveals that she is going to speak to the FBI and challenges him to go with her, he agrees. Tom (Michael McGrady) is in his cell as lunch is delivered which he refuses, but as the officer gives the lunch to the other inmate he hears Diego’s (Oscar Camacho) voice and puts two and two together realizing that this is the man who attacked Holden. Diego speaks Spanish to him, which translates to “You can’t protect your son, Papa.” Tom is enraged, but Diego is coldly calculating as they stare each other down.

Charlie is pretending to be a delivery person using all the candy they bought and the discount store while Holden and Jeff wait in the car and keep in touch via radio. As she enters there is a problem with the frozen goods delivery guy as the security guard says that they cannot accept anything frozen today. While the two argue Charlie uses the map drawn by Jeff to find the activity room but can’t find Edgar. Meanwhile, in the activity room the patients start to become distressed because they won’t be having their ice cream.

Charlie spots Dr. Tolan (Jennifer Spence) putting on a parka and heading to the sub-basement. Upon hearing this, the boys leave the car and make their way into the institution. The doctor heads to the sub-basement and reprimands a security guard before entering the walking freezer and we see that Edgar (Jay Paulson) it is there.

Jeff and Holden join Charlie and as the three watch the activity room wondering where Edgar is Charlie makes the connection and realises that the reason the freezer is out of use is because that is where they are keeping him. They then cause a diversion by giving the patients ice pops and sneak away to the freezer in the near riot they cause after Charlie steals an access card.

Agent Borden is meeting with Diane and reassuring him that Pastor Ian will turn up. Agent Borden shares that she has a 17-year-old son, which causes Diane to talk about Luke. Borden then says that she had no idea that Diane had another son. Pastor Ian is at his house and appears to be packing up to leave town quickly. He grabs a hidden CD from the back of a clock and writes “Holden” on it before closing his bag and heading out the door.

As he backs out of his drive he is hit by a car driving down the road, which happens to be driven by Hollow Sky hitman Ramon (Jorge Vargas). Back in the sub-basement freezer of the mental hospital, Dr. Tolan is questioning Edgar on how he keeps managing to set fires at the hospital. Edgar is tied to a chair with only t-shirt and trousers and has clearly been there awhile frost has formed on his hair. When he attempts to use his powers, the doctor lowers the temperature further but is then interrupted in her interrogation by news of Holden’s diversion upstairs. She leaves then after saying that Edgar stop this anytime he chooses.

Charlie, Holden and Jeff sneak into the sub-basement and discuss how to get past the guard Holden tries unsuccessfully to use his telekinesis forcing Jeff to distract the guard while Holden and Charlie head into the freezer to free Edgar. Jeff finds that the guard is significantly bigger than he is and is definitely losing in the fight until he grabs a fire extinguisher and manages to knock the security guard out. Meanwhile Charlie and Holden eventually untie Edgar and join back up with Jeff.

Willa (Dilan Gwyn) is at her grandfather’s house when Luke rings the bell. Luke doesn’t realize that there is a mic at the front gate and so Willa overhears Luke rehearsing what he plans to say to her. After an awkward interaction ionce Luke realises he was overheard she lets him in. Willa says she wants to show him something, which turns out to be Arthur’s machine. Luke wants to know why Willa is trying to fix the machine and she explains that Holden has broken something over there.

Luke reveals that he has contacted the FBI, which upsets Willa because she is worried about what might happen to Arthur (Alex Diakun). It is then that Arthur interrupts and says that perhaps it is time to get the authorities in. He says he is ready if Willa is as well. Back at the mental institution Holden, Charlie, Jeff and Edgar are attempting to escape when they are stopped by a door that their stolen pass won’t work on and the doctor along with security guards are quickly catching up.

Dr. Tolan knows who Holden is and he manages to gather his anger and blow the door blocking their escape completing from its hinges. As they leave Tolan calls out to Edgar saying that she has protected him. Edgar turns to confront the doctor and orderlies and uses his power to superheat the room setting the hairs on their arms on fire, melting their shoes and burning their skin before eventually being stopped by Holden and leaving.

Pastor Ian is in the woods terrified with The Man In The Yellow Jacket standing over him. He begs for his life until TMITYJ questions his faith in Hollow Sky he still denies that he accessed the surveillance and can’t answer why he is scared of death if he truly believes. He eventually leaves Ian standing there leaving him for Ramon to kill which he quickly does.

Tess Shoemacher and her wife Robin (Aaliyah O’Brien) are having a drink. As they talk, Robin points out that something has been wrong in their relationship for a while prompting Tess to confess her cancer diagnosis. She’s shocked and upset that Tess kept it secret for two months. Tess apologizes and then announces that her cancer is in remission and prognosis is good then drops the bombshell that she is planning to retire from Hollow Sky. Tess then makes it clear that they will have to runaway which Robin takes in without batting an eye only asking if she has an exit strategy.

Over at the police station there we see two officers Deputy Garza (Stefania Indelicato) and Deputy Pete (Jeremiah Oh) who are stuck at the station while most of the staff are at a Lieutenant’s going away party. They are interrupted by a visitor Ken Sheldrake (Lochlyn Munro) who cryptically asks for the prisoner. They question him further and when Garza turns around to call the Sheriff on the internal line she looks back only a second later to find the reception area empty no sign of the visitor or Deputy Pete.

She calls for him and then eventually heads out the front door with her weapon drawn after she heard the front door close. As she comes to the door, she sees a dozen or so people standing motionless in the shadows twenty feet from the entrance. She opens the door calls for Pete then staring at the gathering moves back letting the door close at that moment a horribly injured Pete, who is covered in blood, presses against the front door and screams at her to run before sliding down the door to the ground.

As Garza runs off the mysterious group finally begins walking towards the police station. As she heads back into the reception, other officers have been drawn by the noise and they quickly confirm that the police station is under attack by a hostile force. The creatures from the Realm inhabiting the bodies from Hollow Sky slowly approach and we shift downstairs as Tom trapped in his cell hears the sound of battle above. We see the creatures from the Realm come to collect Diego and as he leaves he reminds Tom what he said about not being able to protect Holden.

Charlie, Holden, Jeff and Edgar head to the woods where they uncovered Edgar’s fridge, Holden was impressed by Edgar’s use of his powers while Charlie seems more disturbed. Holden admits that he is worried that Edgar represents his eventual future Charlie stops him by kissing him then reassuring him that she won’t let that happen.

As Edgar explains what the fridge is for he clarifies that he won’t be the one journeying to the Realm much to Jeff’s consternation, he explains that he will show Holden what to do but it is up to him, after a brief hesitation Holden agrees.
