A very young Holden (Christian Michael Cooper) waits on the doorstep of his house as his parents Tom (Michael McGrady) and Diane (Romy Rosemont) return from the hospital with his new baby brother Luke. His father tells him he will be a big brother now and eventually head of the family. As the years progress we see young Holden comforting Luke (Matias Seale) during a storm and reassuring him that their home and he himself will keep Luke safe no matter what.

In present day Holden (Burkely Duffield) bursts into his home frantic calling for his family with Charlie (Eden Brolin) close behind. He finds his parents and Sheriff Dayton (Toby Levins) there with the video surveillance of Holden still playing on the TV. Holden promises to explain, but wants them to leave immediately worried that the Invaders will come seeking retribution. As he argues with his parents and the Sheriff, who want more details, we hear Diego (Oscar Camacho) calling Holden’s name.

When the group go to check they see Diego and a large group of those Invaders who took over the bodies in Hollow Sky’s cryogenic facility. Holden wants to confront them directly, but his parents won’t let him and Sheriff Dayton calls for backup. Charlie fails to back up Holden’s plan. The police backup is far away so the group is left to deal with the Invaders alone. A rock is thrown through the window and the group starts to make the house safe blocking up the windows.

Fake Agent Borden (Amy Farrington) is with her group and Tess Shoemacher (Erika Alexander) is escorting them inside. She knows that they are not who they say are causing them to come clean with their plans. They plan to use the Realm to solve the overpopulation problem by sending people directly there hence their need for the machine.

Willa (Dilan Gwyn) threatens The Man In The Yellow Jacket (Peter Kelamis) while Luke (Jonathan Whitesell) looks on. He warns her that a stray bullet could ignite the flammable chemicals that are being stored in the underground laboratory. TMITYJ then leaves to confront the fake FBI agents, warning them that they may not want to stick around. Luke goes to leave, but Willa doesn’t follow as she has something in mind.

Holden is at his front door holding back some of the Invaders as they try to break in they have been protecting the house for a number of hours as it is now dark outside, his father helps him put boards across the door. In the kitchen Diane and Charlie are holding a table against the damaged window to keep their attackers from getting in while Charlie apologizes for lying to Diane about Holden. The scenes play back and forth between Holden and his father and Diane with Charlie as they discuss the reason for the invaders being there and Holden’s desire to protect his family at all costs.

Willa has found some chemicals which she plans to use to burn down the lab which surprises Luke. Luke argues that they don’t know where the machine is, but Willa manages to figure it out by looking at some power cabling on the wall of the lab. She is insistent that they cannot allow the machine to fall into anyone’s hands. Willa is unconcerned about her father’s body because she knows what happened to him in the Realm and believes him to be already dead.

Shoemacher leads the fake FBI into an ambush organized by The Man In The Yellow Jacket, who we see is being backed up by Ramon (Jorge Vargas). While that standoff is happening above them Willa and Luke are setting things up by spreading around the flammable liquid as they prepare to burn the lab down. The two go back and forth about an ignition source as they don’t have any matches or a lighter, but Luke says he has an idea.

Back at the house Holden and his father are trying to keep the Invaders out when they suddenly stop trying to break in, they go to check on Charlie and Diane where they are joined by Sheriff Dayton who watched from upstairs as the Invaders moved away. They speculate the reason for the others withdrawing, but quickly find the reason – Diego has managed to slip in while they were distracted by the others.

Sheriff Dayton attempts to stop Diego shooting him in the leg, but instead gets knocked out easily. Tom attacks Diego next, but is stabbed in the struggle then the others attack grabbing Diane. Diego grabs the sheriff’s gun with the intention of shooting Tom, but Holden deflects all the bullets away before telekinetically throwing Diego through a door to the outside. Diane rushes to Tom’s aid and with Charlie’s help they move him to the basement.

Down in the lab Luke has cut open bullets to make a pile of gunpowder, which will serve as an ignition point for the fire. He and Willa move down the hall away from the fire and before he can shoot Willa asks how his aim is. Luke explains that he is a good shot because he practiced on the video game Duck Hunt, a reference that Willa doesn’t get. Luke fires and we get a slow-motion view of the bullet track as it hits the gunpowder and ignites the fire.

The fire spreads and causes an explosion, which can be felt on the ground level in the barns and the explosion itself rushes through the ventilation system and burns one of the gunmen, it also starts the gun fight between the Hollow Sky and the fake FBI group. The fire spreads as the fight rages on and eventually we see TMITYJ make his escape covered by Ramon. As Luke and Willa watch the barn burn they hold hands.

Charlie talks to Tom about Holden, as they wait in the basement, about how she admires the way Holden was raised and realizes how much he is loved. As Diane tends to Tom’s wounds they both say they love each other. Diego recovers from being thrown through the door and confronts Holden again. They violently clash as they struggle on the ground Diego grabs Holden by the head and somehow the Invader passes from Diego’s body into Holden, killing Diego.

Charlie comes upstairs and Holden tells her what happened and that he needs to get to the freezer. Back at Hollow Sky the emergency services are there in force fighting the fire and we see Christine (Parveen Kaur) with her son behind the barriers. Meanwhile, Fake Agent Borden takes over the scene. Jeff (Jeff Pierre) runs in frantic and speaks to Christine. They watch a line of ambulances depart the property. We follow those ambulances and see one ambulance turn off in a different direction. Inside The Man In The Yellow Jacket has killed the EMT and has taken the body of Frost (Martin Donovan).

Holden and Charlie get to the freezer and try to get Holden into it as well, but before they can the Invader asserts control of Holden and pushes Charlie away. He tries to kill her, but she managed to push him into the freezer and shut the cover. Holden is transported into the Realm straight into a body of water, but can’t break the surface when he is grabbed by Diego. The two struggle with Holden eventually escaping and Diego being dragged down by a mass of entangled hands. Once Charlie pulls him out he confirms that he is the real Holden as the two recover from their ordeal.

We see the ambulance driving up to Ramon who is leaning up against his car eating a snack. TMITYJ shows Ramon Frost, who now is conscious and talking and asking for some clothes. Willa and Luke are at her apartment and the two have a talk about the nature of the relationship where the two admit that they have feelings for one another, but need to deal with Holden first. Willa makes it clear that she is in love with Luke and the two hold hands.

Jeff and Christine are back at home with the baby in his crib. Christine admits that she went to the Hollow Sky retreat because she did not want to lose the memory of Kevin. Charlie and Holden head back to his house where Tom is being rolled out to an ambulance and we see the other invaders have all passed out. Diane lets Holden know that Luke is on his way home. Sheriff Dayton says he will cover up the attack on Holden’s house. Holden and Charlie are talking but are interrupted by a call from Willa.

We see Willa is at the front door of her grandfather’s house as Holden walks through his now trashed home. She puts on the kettle and walks through the house as she talks with Holden about their relationship. Willa says she is walking away from all things Hollow Sky and the Realm and perhaps from Holden too as she wants a fresh start. She notices Daniel’s (Patrick Sabongui) dead body and begins searching for Arthur, heading to the machine room which is now empty. Will is then kidnapped by Fake Agent Borden. As Charlie and Luke come into the house, Holden calls out for her in vain over the phone.
