Lynn Pierce (Christine Adams) does a check-up on Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams) as she expresses her disbelief and excitement that Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is Black Lightning. Lynn is impressed by Anissa’s healing ability, but advises her to stop her vigilantism. Anissa reminds her that she and Jefferson have always wanted her to help people, but Lynn tells her not to do it as a vigilante. When Anissa insists that her powers are a blessing, Lynn comments on how much she sounds like Jefferson. Anissa is excited by the prospect of teaming up with Black Lightning to take down the 100 once and for all, but Lynn insists that the path will lead to heartbreak and pain. Lynn admits that she doesn’t have powers, and Anissa asks how she can understand what she’s going through.

Peter Gambi (James Remar) tells Jefferson that he’s found evidence that web thieves were behind the attack on Lynn, but advises that Lynn should stay at the shop for the next couple of days. He tries to assure Jefferson that he’s not at fault for not knowing about Anissa’s powers, but Jefferson is angry with Gambi for not telling him that Tobias Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III) is back in Freeland. Gambi insists that he didn’t know, but Jefferson doesn’t believe him. He then insists that he kept the information from him to protect him from himself, as there is no coming back from murder. Gambi asks Jefferson to trust him, but Jefferson admits he doesn’t. Tobias fights a man, and then orders Joey Toledo (Eric Mendenhall) to find him a more worthy opponent. The man gets back up and Tobias is pleased. Tobias wins the fight and asks Toledo to check the man’s bag, where they find a bag of Greenlight.

At the police station, Lynn gives a description of the men who attacked her to the sketch artist and answers Bill Henderson’s (Damon Gupton) questions about potential suspects. Henderson then turns to Jefferson, questioning why his family is always getting targeted. Jefferson insists that he’s just a principal, but Henderson reminds him that he’s more than that, as he provides hope to his students. Lynn confirms the sketch artist’s final drawing, and the drawings are sent to Lady Eve (Jill Scott), who orders that the situation be handled delicately. She sends a text to Gambi, telling him that the cleaners are on their way.

As they exit the station, Jefferson suggests that someone targeted Lynn because of him being Black Lightning. Lynn doesn’t agree, and suggests it might have something to do with the box of his father’s files that Anissa dropped off at the lab. Tobias laments to his sister, Tori (Edwina Findley Dickerson), that Greenlight is killing too many customers. He asks Syonide (Charlbi Dean Kriek) to arrange a meeting with Lady Eve, and Tori questions the request.

Outside the station, Jefferson blames himself for not knowing about Anissa’s powers. Lynn takes responsibility, as she should have known it was a possibility. She wants to run tests on Anissa, but Jefferson tells her to go back to Gambi’s for her safety. Jefferson tells her that she can run the tests once they know it’s safe, and they agree to dissuade Anissa from using her powers. Lynn suggests they test Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain) as well, and admits that she’s scared for their daughters.

Jefferson gets a call at school and steps outside to use his Black Lightning voice. Henderson confirms that he’s speaking to “The Electrician,” and asks if there’s anyone else like him. Jefferson denies it, and tells him about the vigilante that destroyed the confederate statue. Jefferson promises to look into it, and asks Henderson to find another lead to Toledo. He admits that the real target is Tobias, and confirms that he saw him when Henderson doubts his still being alive.

Anissa visits Jefferson and suggests a plan to begin their team up against the 100. Jefferson tries to dissuade her from using her powers and calls her out for destroying the statue. She admits that she lost her head, and he warns her that people get hurt because of that. Anissa asks him to train her, but he refuses. Jefferson tells her that she isn’t ready and she accuses him of not being ready. He asks her about the box of files, and she tells him that she got it from the editor before explaining her reasons for the research. Jefferson tells her that it was risky to give the box to Lynn, and Anissa questions if the box was the reason for the break-in.

Gambi meets with Lady Eve, and warns her that Tobias is a problem. She points out that Tobias is a great asset, but Gambi believes that Tobias’ head has gotten too big and he could expose the entire operation. Lady Eve advises against killing Tobias, but suggests that killing Toledo could send a message to him. Gambi agrees and she gives him a small box. The next morning, Jennifer senses and calls out the tension between Jefferson and Anissa during breakfast. Both Jefferson and Anissa lie that things are all right, but Jennifer isn’t convinced. Jefferson lies that the tension is due to him blowing Anissa off because of a brain scan, and Anissa excuses herself. Despite Jefferson continued explanation of the lie, Jennifer clearly doesn’t buy it.

Anissa calls the editor, asking to speak to him. She visits Lynn at Gambi’s, bringing her some things to make her comfortable. Anissa apologizes for how their previous conversation ended, and Lynn admits that she doesn’t want her to go through the same things she and Jefferson went through. Anissa realizes that Lynn and Jefferson broke up because of Black Lightning, and Lynn warns her that everyone will get a happy ending but her if she goes down this path. Anissa reminds Lynn that the community fell apart in Black Lightning’s absence, and declares that she’s willing to sacrifice her happiness so other people can have theirs. She visits the newspaper, and an employee informs her that the editor was killed a couple days ago in a hit and run.

A masked Gambi walks through an underground fight club. Toledo hears gunshots outside and orders his man to investigate. Gambi throws the man back into the office with a smoke bomb. He shoots Toledo and leaves the tiny box on top of him before exiting the premises. Anissa returns home and Jefferson sees that she is shaken. She tells him about the editor’s death and they embrace. Jefferson visits Lynn and Lynn reminds him that Anissa has always been stubborn since she was a baby. She asks Jefferson to help train Anissa, as Anissa will eventually go back out on her own if they don’t help her protect herself. Jefferson reminds her that she’s constantly called his powers a drug, but Lynn insists that she’s simply asking for him to help protect Anissa. Gambi is surprised to see Jefferson there, but Jefferson brushes him off as he takes a call as Black Lightning.

Tori informs Tobias of Toledo’s death, handing him the box found on him. Tobias opens it and finds more dust inside. He throws the box and Tori warns him of the dangers of defying Lady Eve’s message. Tobias comments that killing Lady Eve without permission would be costly, but Tori admits that it might not necessarily be the case. Henderson stands over Toledo’s body and gets a text from Black Lightning asking him to meet on the roof. He goes to the roof and Black Lightning is waiting for him. Henderson tells him that Toledo was killed, and Black Lightning laments the death of his only lead to Tobias. However, Henderson tells him that Toledo spent a lot of time nearly a soon to be opened Jazz Club and Black Lightning disappears before he can finish his sentence.

Lynn asks Gambi for a favor. Black Lightning observes the nightclub and relives his father’s murder. Gambi works on designing a new suit, assuring Lynn that it will keep Anissa safe. He observes Anissa enter the shop and greets her. He hands her the blueprints for her suit, and excitedly tells her all of the features it will have. Lynn assures Anissa that she understands that Anissa has always wanted to protect others, but warns her to be careful.

At the club, Tobias asks Tori if everything is ready to go and she confirms as he arrives with his entourage. Black Lightning walks in and attacks Tobias, before fighting his entourage. Tobias’ men shoot at Lady Eve with lightning guns, and Tori is hit with a gun in the middle of the fight. Tobias is dragged away and driven away from the club. Black Lightning is unable to catch up and urges Tori to breathe and stay with him. She is unable to and dies. Lady Eve fights off the gunman, but is hit and killed by a gunman hiding inside one of her caskets.

As Jefferson drinks his sorrows on the porch, Anissa calls Grace and asks her out. Jefferson knocks on her door and Anissa invites him inside. He calls himself a hypocrite, as he’s repeatedly let emotions get the best of him. Jefferson tells her that they’re both going to make mistakes, but Freeland doesn’t stand a chance without them. He promises to teach her what he knows, and Anissa tells him that he’s not a hypocrite and that she hopes to live up to his example. However, Jefferson advises her to be better than him and answers a call as Black Lightning. Henderson tells him that went to far as he investigates Lady Eve’s murder. In a motel, LaLa (William Catlett) wakes up on a bed as news footage announces that Black Lightning is the primary suspect in Lady Eve’s murder. Lawanda White (Tracey Bonner) steps in the room and asks him if he believes in the resurrection. She turns to dust and attaches herself to LaLa’s chest as a tattoo of her face.
