Callie (Maia Mitchell) still frustrated about her UCSD rejection, but Ximena (Lisseth Chavez) tells to repeal and not give up. Noticing Ximena seems a little off, Callie asks her what’s wrong, and Ximena tells her they’ve moved her parents back to San Diego. Their hearing is Friday, and their lawyer hopes they can get a cancellation long enough for them to get a green card. She thinks a short video about ICE targeting them could help, and Callie agrees to put one together.

Aaron (Elliot Fletcher) approaches them, asking if they’ll appear on a panel about the impact of social media on social justice issues. They say yes, and Aaron and Callie talk alone. Callie admits that Aaron seeing someone so soon after they broke up surprised her, but she appreciates him being honest about it. Aaron says he still wants to hang out, and Callie does, too. Aaron gives her a heads-up that the girl he’s sort of been seeing will be at the panel as well.

Grace (Meg DeLacy) packs, preparing to head to a spa with her mom. She asks Brandon (David Lambert) what his plans for the future are since she’s getting better and will be going back to work and school soon. He gets defensive, but she continues pushing things, saying he could either spend a year waiting to apply to colleges or try and make something happen now.

Callie shows Brandon the video she made for Ximena and worries it’s not emotional enough. Brandon offers to compose a song to play in the background and stays up all night doing just that. Although Callie appreciates his effort, she thinks the music overwhelms the story and video. At school, Brandon asks his music teacher if one of his connections (Jeremy Glazer) who helps compose music for TV and movies could help him with a project. Brandon meets with him, and he explains how music can evoke different emotions in viewers.

During the social media panel, Amanda (Jonna Walsh) asks Callie what from her own experience made her so passionate about Ximena’s cause. Callie opens up, saying the foster care system made her understand what it’s like to feel powerless. Amanda tells Callie the world could use more people like her, committed to stepping up and doing the right thing. Callie continues flawlessly fielding difficult questions, especially when she and Ximena are grilled by someone from the Conservative Student Union. Callie points out how the deportation laws are outdated, punitive, and racist. The moderator, a law teacher named Professor Kim (Eric Steinberg), tells Callie how impressed he was with her knowledge of the system.

Callie shows Ximena the video without music. Ximena gets emotional, saying she just wants to hug her parents. Wanting to change the subject, Ximena asks what the story is with Amanda. Ximena is surprised that Aaron has moved on already, saying she would wait forever for Callie. Brandon interrupts their moment, showing them the video with a song he composed with the film scorer’s help. Callie and Ximena both agree it’s perfect and thank him.

The Sinfuego’s lawyers show the judge the video and make the case that Ximena and Poppy’s (Nandy Martin) parents are good people who have improved America for 18 years. Unfortunately, the judge rules that they have 30 days to get their lives in order before they are to be deported back to Mexico. That night, Ximena and Poppy thank Callie for everything she and her family have done for them. The next day Callie knocks on Professor Kim’s door and says she wants to appeal UCSD’s decision and change her major to law.

Brandon tells Grace he thinks he figured out what he wants to do with his life. He wants to apply to a school in LA with a great film scoring program. Grace says LA isn’t that far and wants him to go for it. She also picked up Coachella tickets for the next year so they can go together. Time is precious, she says, but they have plenty of it.

Sheila (Brynn Thayer) goes to the station and tell Stef (Teri Polo) that Kyle (Adam Irigoyen) has been getting creepy calls and seeing suspicious calls drive by their house. It happened shortly after he wore the wire to try and catch Malloy, and she thinks Detective Gray (Alex Skuby) might be trying to intimidate him. Stef catches Gray talking to Malloy on the phone, but Grey quickly hops on the offensive, telling Stef that it’s her career at stake. He threatens to release proof that she lied during the investigation, and Stef isn’t totally certain he’s bluffing.

Stef talks to Kyle, who shows her a dead animal he found on the porch that morning, almost certain it was planted by Gray. She requests warrants to search the properties of Gray and some of his conspirators.

Mariana’s teacher (Michael Traynor) tells Mariana he’d be happy to write her a letter of recommendation for the internship. However, she needs to decide right away what she’s building because he has to reference it in his letter. Since she’s getting a later start than most applicants, it’s imperative that she start working immediately. Wyatt (Alex Saxon) approaches her shortly after, asking her about her dietary restrictions. He wants to cook her dinner that night, and although Mariana needs to be working on her project, she agrees.

Mariana has dinner with Wyatt, and he tells her about his rough upbringing. He had to live in his car before he could afford a place, and his mom never helped him since she can barely help herself. He’s pretty much been on his own since his dad died when he was thirteen years old. His mom also can’t get off work in order to attend his graduation, and Mariana promises to yell extra loud.

The next day, Logan (Christopher Meyer) plans a surprise picnic for Mariana and gifts her a charm bracelet with her derby name engraved on it. That night, Mariana swoons about Logan to Poppy. However, she still really likes Wyatt, too. Poppy teases she should let her robot choose for her. Mariana goes into Jesus’ room (Noah Centineo) and spies Emma’s (Amanda Leighton) plans to build a robot that can make its way through a maze by its use of sensors. She takes this idea to their teacher, who loves it. Emma comes in a few seconds later, saying she wants to rework her project, pitching almost the exact same idea with some modifications.

Jude (Hayden Byerly) is getting annoyed at being bashed by the viewers as well as Taylor (Izabela Vidovic) and Declan (Tyler Alvarez) for his nerdy persona. Declan gives Jude a makeover will some of the gifts his fans sent him in order to make him look edgier. Lena (Sherri Saum) notices his new look and gives it her nod of approval, saying he looks hip. However, he gets mixed reactions at school, which makes him insecure, and he reverts back to his old look.

Declan pressures Jude to change into his makeover clothes on camera. Although Jude and Taylor are both uncomfortable with it, Jude finally gives in and takes his shirt off on camera. The commenters love this, giving Jude a boost of confidence.

Lena and Stef catch up on Jude’s live streams, shocked and appalled at the sexual way he and his friends are talking. Stef tells him it’s an invitation for online predators and demands that he stop doing it altogether. Lena wants to compromise, giving Jude one last chance to clean it up. Jude rants to Taylor about this, worried he’s letting she and Declan down. Taylor suggests he just talk to Declan and ask if they can make the streams a little more PG. She has a feeling Declan won’t want to stop streaming with Jude, still convinced Declan is crushing on him.

Jude tells Lena that Declan doesn’t want to keep streaming with him and that they’ve been dropped from his company. However, later that night he gets a text from Declan asking if Jude is all set to live stream at his house the next day, and Jude agrees.
