A hitman (Fisher Neal) holds a gun to Justin Trimble (Adrian Alvarado) in his home and Trimble denies the existence of a recording. The hitman kills Trimble as his housekeeper (Porter Kelly) arrives. Trimble writes the letters GPA in his blood before his housekeeper finds him dead. Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) runs a simulation of Shepherd’s rescue as Violet Park (Hettienne Park) guides her. She is unable to get into Shepherd’s cell before the guard shoots her with a rubber bullet and expresses frustration with the slow code breaker. Violet tells her it was the best she could do in the limited time, but Jane tells her she doesn’t have time to wait for a more efficient one and orders her to fix it.

As Jane returns home, Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) asks how her run was, and offers to join her next time despite her insistence that he can’t keep up with her. Matthew Weitz (Aaron Abrams) opens a meeting to discuss the recent stealing of FBI files, and Sabrina Larren (Jen Richards) suggests that she leads the interrogation of Edgar Reade (Rob Brown), suggesting that Tasha Zapata (Audrey Esparza) couldn’t have stolen the files without Reade’s access. As Weitz calls a recess, he asks Sabrina to identify herself and Sabrina tells him she’s taking over for Keaton. Sabrina declares that Keaton’s affinity for Zapata and the FBI is problematic and that she doesn’t share the same affinity. She tells Weitz to let her interview Reade, or she’ll look into him as well.

Madeline Burke (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) gives Zapata the employee file of Owen Booth (Callum Blue), suggesting that he’s the best way to infiltrate his company’s project. She explains that her company will be competing with his for a lucrative defense contract and sabotaging the top-secret project will help her get an advantage. Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and Rich Dotcom (Ennis Esmer) tells the team that Trimble’s death and blood message has triggered a tattoo that points to a political lobbyist organization with the initials of GPA.

Patterson and Rich reveal that GPA has previously donated to Weitz, and Weitz tells them that taking money from them is part of politics. Jane asks about Trimble, and Weitz denies knowing anything about his death or having spoken to him recently. However, Patterson uncovers a text to Weitz from Trimble’s phone from the previous night asking to meet, leading to Weller suggesting that Weitz is covering up Trimble’s murder. As the team speculates, Rich suggests that Weitz isn’t a killer. Jane counters that he’s hiding something, and Weller suggests they look at the crime scene.

Sabrina shows Reade Claudia’s picture and asks if she was the woman with Zapata. He tells her she was wearing a mask, and she tells him that her Intel says that Claudia was MI6 and currently missing. Reade suggests that Claudia can’t get away with pointing her gun at Zapata, and Sabrina declares they have to bring Zapata in dead or alive. She asks if that’s going to be a problem, and he tells her it isn’t. Rich continues to advocate for Weitz’ innocence but Patterson is skeptical. As they argue about it, Patterson gets notification that Weitz has postponed the day’s meetings and called a driver and Rich admits that’s a little suspicious.

Weller informs Jane about Weitz’ movement as they investigate the crime scene. Weller pointedly tells her that Weitz’ biggest mistake was not being honest, and Jane replies that Weitz is allowed to have secrets. He replies that them not telling the truth means that something’s wrong, suggesting Weitz should have trusted them with the truth. Jane finds a switch in the fuse box labelled 4.0 which Jane connects to Grade Point Average. She flicks the switch and Weller finds a flash drive in the corresponding light.

The team listens to a recording of a man blackmailing Trimble, and Trimble lists all of the laws he’s voted on for GPA. The blackmailer realizes that Trimble is recording the conversation and tells Trimble that recording it is a death wish. Jane points out that the conversation mentioned others, and Weller suggests they find out what that means quickly. Patterson is able to use the names of the laws and congress voting records to find other people involved with GPA. They get notification of Weitz’ location and Patterson determine he’s visiting Frank Davenport (Mario Van Peebles), who is on the list.

Weitz tells Davenport they need to discuss GPA, but Davenport tells him he can’t be there. However, Weitz refuses to leave, telling him about Trimble and asking if he’s compromised as well. Davenport tells him to drop it, warning him of the consequences. Jane and Weller show Patterson and Rich that the tattoo outline resembles a Chinese river indicating China’s involvement with GPA while Patterson and Rich show them evidence that the GPA lobbied laws help protect Chinese interests in the technology race.

Weitz orders them to stop, and Rich counters that he’s been defending him all day. Rich explains their investigation into GPA and Weitz explains that he’s working on the same case, presenting his theory that China is behind it. Sabrina asks Reade who the initials Claudia and Zapata discussed could be, and Reade makes a joke about it before telling her he doesn’t know. Reade asks if he’s a suspect, and Sabrina asks how they got his password. He admits that he gave the password after Claudia pointed a gun at Zapata, and Sabrina tells him that their honesty protects them.

Rich asks Weitz why he lied to them, and Weitz questions if they’ve ever lied to protect a friend. He explains that he was worried about putting Davenport in danger like he did Trimble, but Jane tells him that Trimble was killed because of the recording. Weitz tells them he told Trimble to record the conversation and mentions a potential whistleblower that he identifies from a photo. Weitz orders a security detail for her, but she is shot before she can answer Weitz’ call.

The team tries to figure out who else could possibly be a whistleblower and Weitz tells them he’s ordered every name on the list to be taken into protective custody. Reade asks what he’s missed, but Weitz promises to fill him in as they go to get Davenport. Sabrina asks to speak to Weitz and encourages him to fire Reade due to his willing surrender of his password. Weitz agrees but lies to Reade that everything is fine as they get in the elevator.

Booth finds Zapata waiting for him in his home and threatens his wife if he doesn’t provide all documents related to his company’s project. He agrees, and Zapata gives him a camera disguised as a tie clip to take photos of the documents. Weitz and Reade try to convince Davenport to come with him and ask what GPA has on him. Davenport confesses he had an affair with an underage girl, but Weitz suggests the incident was set up by the GPA to use for blackmail. Weitz offers protection from GPA, and Davenport tells them he’s going upstairs first.

Weitz gives him two minutes, and Reade questions if they should be leaving Davenport alone right now. Weitz goes upstairs as Davenport makes a call reporting that the FBI is there, and they need to be taken care of. As Jane and Weller visit the hospital, they see a man dressed as a nurse approaching the shot congresswoman’s room. He pulls a gun out as they identify themselves as FBI and Weller shoots him.

Patterson uses the man’s phone to track the rest of GPA’s hitmen. She discovers that the hitmen are heading to Davenport’s home and call Reade to warn him. The hitmen start shooting at Reade, Weitz, and Davenport and Reade shoots back at them as Weitz and Davenport return upstairs. Weitz identifies his tie in one of Davenport’s photos and reminisces about the memory. He realizes that his claims of taking an underaged girl to his hotel that night isn’t true because he flew out after the event. Weitz declares that he’s behind the attack, and Davenport comments that he was always too smart for politics.

Davenport pulls out his gun and points it at Weitz despite Weitz’ attempt to push it away. Reade hits Davenport with a baseball bat, declaring he ran out of bullets. Weller informs Jane that Davenport has been arrested, and suggests they go back to the office. Jane tells him she’s not feeling well and suggests that she lie down. Weller promises they can figure out whatever she’s into together, telling her to talk to him. Jane lies that she’s been looking for a cure on the black market, and Weller freaks out before telling her that he wants to help. He embraces her and tells her to get some rest.

Booth returns with the photos of the documents, which Zapata confirms are there. He asks about his wife, and Zapata advises him she’ll be safe as long as he doesn’t do anything stupid. He apologizes for whatever happened to make her like this, but she doesn’t answer as she walks away. Jane asks Violet if she’s solved the problem, and Violet tells her she can’t make the code breaker faster. Violet declares that nobody can do this job, and Jane suggests they change their method of attack from a stealth operation to one that will cause mass panic.

Zapata shows Madeline the intel that shows that the top-secret project is a commercial aircraft, and Madeline tells her they’re going to sabotage it by crashing it. Weitz declares the operation a success, but admits he understands why they didn’t initially bring them into the investigation. He tells them they’re a team, comparing himself as being the LeBron James to their Lakers. The team laughs at the idea that Weitz is Lebron, insisting that Patterson is their LeBron. Weitz continues to insist he’s LeBron and asks to speak to Reade.

Sabrina tells Reade that he’s fired, and Reade asks about her assurance that their honesty protects them. She tells him she lied, and Weitz tells him that he is agreeing to the termination. Reade reminds him that he saved his life, but Weitz tells him that he can’t be objective about Zapata. Reade surrenders his badge, comparing Sabrina to a wolf and Weitz to a snake as he leaves. Weller follows the tracker he placed on Jane earlier and finds the warehouse being used for Jane’s simulation. He questions what Jane’s doing, and Violet shoots at him.

Weitz visits Reade and hands him his badge and gun back. He explains that the firing was for show, and that they will be working to bring Zapata in alive together before the CIA kills her. Violet calls Jane and tells her about Weller’s appearance at the facility. Jane asks to meet, but she is stopped by Weller before she can leave the apartment. He confronts her about the warehouse and tells her that Violet tried to kill him. Jane attempts to feign sympathy, but Weller points his gun at her and demands to know what’s going on.
