As a man builds a gun that looks like a video camera, Shepherd (Michelle Hurd) walks in while Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) cuts her hair. Jane has a flashback to a doctor treating her after the Orion attack. Shepherd details her treatment and escape from Orion, but Jane doesn’t remember anything else. Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and Nas Kamal (Archie Panjabi) talk about the revelation that Sandstorm has been watching Weller for years. As they look through Kamal’s files on Weller, Tasha Zapata (Audrey Esparza) interrupts them and tells them that she has recruited hacker Shadowcat to help decode Mayfair’s USB drive. Kamal commends her on her effort, but warns her to never show top secret information to a convict without her permission ever again.

A cop comes up to Reade’s car and Edgar Reade (Rob Brown) wakes up after falling asleep during his tail of his former football coach. Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and Dr. Robert Borden (Ukweli Roach) talk about going public with their new relationship as they get ready for work. Weller takes Allison Knight (Trieste Kelly Dunn) to her doctor’s appointment and Weller worries about her being in the field while pregnant. Back at headquarters, Reade tells Weller that he’s taking a personal day off and Weller compliments Jane on her new haircut. Patterson briefs the team on their newest mission, a tattoo that leads to the social media accounts of members of a notorious crime family. The suspects were using the Snapchat-like app to communicate through a code that Patterson has figured out refers to an attack at an immigration reform rally later that day.

The team arrives at the rally and splits up to look for any suspicious activity. The man holding the camera gun shoots at State Senator Quinn Donahue (Mike McGowan) while he is speaking and the crowd begins to scream. Jane spots the shooter and Weller chases after him. The suspect grabs a hostage and shoots at Weller, but Jane shoots the suspect and the hostage runs away.

Allison is assigned to the team and shows them what they’ve found about the suspect and the crime family. They identify the owner of the gun inside the camera. Weller asks her to not get involved with the case, but she refuses. Reade walks up to Coach Jones (Brian O’Neill) and shoves him against a building demanding to know if he was one of the coach’s abuse victims. A storeowner tells him to back off and Reade threatens that he’ll get what’s coming to him as he walks away.

Weller and Jane bring Patrick O’Malley (Lee Tergesen), the gun owner, in for questioning, but he insists that he will only talk to Allison Knight. Weller reluctantly asks for help, and Allison takes the lead on the investigation because she is friends with O’Malley’s sister. Meanwhile, Jane goes to Patterson with a drawing from her memory and asks for her help to find more information about the doctor who treated her.

Weller and Allison walk into the interrogation room and O’Malley tells Allison that he has been diagnosed with cancer. As Jane, Zapata and Kamal look on, Weller interrogates him. Allison tells O’Malley who Weller is and O’Malley says that he doesn’t like Weller for hurting her. O’Malley tells them that he’s left the family business and Zapata and Kamal speculate whether one can truly leave a family of killers while Jane ponders the question.  In the interrogation, O’Malley says that the Donahue is a part of the mob and ordered a false hit on himself to gain votes and sympathy.

Outside the interrogation room, Allison and Weller argue over the way he handled the investigation. Jane walks into the room and uses her own struggles of staying loyal to her family to try and get O’Malley to talk. He admits that he has tapes of evidence against Donahue and that he will hand them over in exchange for a plea deal. Zapata gets a call about Reade’s arrest and she frantically calls him, leaving a message. As the team prepares to retrieve the files, Zapata asks for time off to handle a personal matter.

The team arrives at the office of O’Malley’s lawyer, Melissa (Sheila Tapia), with O’Malley in handcuffs. He asks to have the handcuffs taken off, but Weller refuses. They reach the office and Melissa is hesitant to let them through without a warrant. Jane sees security footage of several gunmen ambushing the lobby and Weller realizes that they are here to kill O’Malley. Weller barks orders at the team, but Allison insists that they need to retrieve the tapes. When Weller refuses, she goes anyway and Weller asks Jane to follow her. O’Malley tries to open the safe, but his chemo meds cause the safe to fail at reading his fingerprints. Patterson gives them instructions on how to open the safe over the earpiece. Weller and Kamal take out the gunman that come of the elevator.

Jane opens the safe and pulls out the evidence, but they are shot at by gunmen as they exit the office. Jane asks Allison to uncuff O’Malley and hands him a gun. They escape through the stairwell, but are ambushed by gunmen. Allison is shot in the gunfight and Melissa confesses that she is working for Donahue. Allison tells Jane that she is pregnant with Kurt’s child.

Reade breaks into the coach’s house and looks around. He finds a secret compartment with a bunch of videotapes, one of which has his name on it. Jane gets supplies and tends to Allison’s wound while Weller tries to get to Allison. O’Malley runs away, leaving the tapes with them. He hands the empty case to the gunman and shoots the man before another gunman shoots him. Jane carries Allison to safety and they are reunited with Weller and Kamal.

At the hospital, Weller checks in on Allison and the baby. She insists they are fine. She tells Weller that she’s capable of working in the field while pregnant and Weller agrees. Jane and Weller talk in the locker room and she congratulates him on becoming a father. As she walks away, she is on the verge of tears. Patterson comes up to her and tells her she was unable to find anything to help Jane. In a split decision, Jane calls Oliver Kind (Jonathan Patrick Moore), the man from the gallery, and asks him out.

Shepherd tells Roman (Luke Mitchell) that Jane asked about her rescue and that she lied to Jane about what happened. Roman insists that he bring her on the next mission to help her regain her loyalty to Sandstorm. As Weller thanks Kamal for helping him during the mission, Patterson runs in and shows them the decoded files on Mayfair’s USB drive. The files contain a series of emails that show the location of Douglas Winter and that Mayfair and Winter were working together. Zapata tracks Reade to the Coach’s house and finds the coach on the floor and Reade standing over his dead body.
