Briana (Amy Margaret Wilson) walks into a warehouse and Dominic Masters (Chaske Spencer) puts a gun to her head. She hands him what she stole from Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander), asking if she’s done. Dominic tells her they’re just getting started, promising he’ll call her when she’s needed again. Weller hangs up Bethany’s drawing in his locker and he and Jane discuss how they miss having Bethany there with them.

Edgar Reade (Rob Brown) confronts Weller about visiting Hirst in prison and making an unauthorized deal with her. Weller insists that it was related to Madeline Burke (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), but Reade questions why he’s first hearing about it. Matthew Weitz (Aaron Abrams) lies that Weller got his approval and brushes off Reade’s suspicions. Reade drops the subject and Weitz asks to speak to Weller privately.

Weitz asks if Weller went to Hirst to get dirt on him, and Weller confirms he did. Weitz asks if they have a problem and Weller tells him they don’t but warns him that he won’t let him destroy the team. Patterson (Ashley Johnson) briefs the team on Dominic and his associate, Barry Wallace (Slate Holmgren), but Weitz comes in late and asks for good news.

Weitz is frustrated when Patterson tells him nothing’s changed, and Reade realizes that Weitz is waiting to hear about the Director of National Intelligence position. He gives them a non-denial denial and Weller insists that finding Dominic and Wallace is their best chance at stopping Madeline.

The new computer system alerts them that Wallace has been spotted at a house in Queens. The team approaches the house and Weller throws a flashbang inside. They handcuff the two men inside, Wallace and Jake Keaton (Chad Donella), and Reade and Weller ask Keaton what he’s doing there with Wallace.

Wallace refuses to talk to them and Reade stops Tasha Zapata (Audrey Esparza) from threatening him. Weller asks Keaton why he’s there and Keaton explains he got an alert from an old CIA communications system. Jane and Weller are suspicious, but Keaton maintains his innocence.  Keaton tells them that Wallace’s real name is different and that he used to be CIA.

Weitz arrives and congratulates everyone on their work. Lucas Nash (Dennis Boutsikaris) asks why the FBI is there and Keaton tells Weitz Nash has history with Wallace. Weitz, Keaton, and Weller argue over who should take Wallace, but Nash suggests a neutral location. Weitz tells Reade that Weller is coming with him, raising his and Zapata’s suspicions.

Patterson and Rich Dotcom (Ennis Esmer) tell the team that they’ve decrypted Wallace’s text messages to arrange the pickup of a virus. Patterson believes the virus is a chemical one and Zapata argues that Madeline will find someone else to retrieve the virus. Reade pulls Jane aside and asks about Weller’s association with Weitz, but Jane lies that she knows nothing about it.

Weller suggests Weitz’ concern about the case is something bigger and Weitz argues he should be questioning his motives instead. They argue about Weller visiting Hirst and Weitz falsifying evidence before Weitz brings up Jane. Weller tells him not to talk about her, but Weitz reminds him of the things she did as Remi.

Weller tells him this isn’t going to end well for either of them, as secrets eventually come out. Weitz warns him he and Jane should hope this secret doesn’t come out and insists they’re on the same side. Weller tells him they’re not and the car transporting Wallace is blown up with an anti-aircraft gun.

Weller goes to recover Wallace and the shooters on the side of the road shoot at him. The shooters shoot the car again, causing it to catch fire. Weller, Weitz, Keaton, and Nash leave the car in the road and drive away. Dominic gets notification that the target was neutralized and is thrilled.

Rich and Patterson tell the team that Wallace’s death means that they have no leads. The team makes suggestions on how to proceed and watch as guards transport Madeline into the office. Nash tells Weitz that the operation has been a disaster and the White House will want it resolved before they pick him as the new Director. Nash suggests he find someone else to blame, but Weitz refuses to throw the team under the bus.

Dominic looks over the plan before setting the room on fire. The team watches the security camera feed of Madeline in custody and debate how to get her to talk. Weller wants to throw everything at her, while Reade and Zapata believe they should take a more methodical approach.

Reade tells Weller they’re doing it his way, and Jane tells Weller they should tell the rest of the team the truth about Weitz. Weller is worried about Weitz’s blackmail threat, warning her they can lose everything. Jane warns him that Reade finding out from someone else will make things worse, but Weller believes it’ll all be over soon.

Reade and Zapata try to question Madeline, but she maintains that she is innocent. She explains that history is repeating itself like it did with her father, and Zapata explains that Madeline’s father lost everything. She asks what her father has to do with this, and Madeline tells them that her father was wronged.

Zapata questions if her father didn’t bring it on himself, but Madeline insists her father was innocent. Zapata tells Madeline that innocent people cooperate, asking what she knows about Dominic’s plan. Madeline calls out Zapata for betraying her and tells them she isn’t comfortable talking without her lawyer present.

Patterson and Rich tell the team that Dominic was caught on camera at a university and the building number matches up with the number in Wallace’s text. They identify it as a science building and tell the team they’re working to identify the woman meeting with Dominic. Weller suggests they go to the building, but Nash asks to speak to Keaton privately first.

Zapata asks Reade what’s bothering him, and Reade admits that he feels cut off from the rest of the team with their secrets. She reminds him that she was isolated not too long ago, assuring him he has her. Reade thanks her and Keaton tells them the CIA is sending him to Malta to due to a complaint about how he’s handled the case.

Keaton tells them that Weitz is the one who submitted the complaint and Zapata insists they have to fight back. He tells her there’s nothing to fight, warning them to watch their backs and be careful who they trust. Zapata hugs Keaton goodbye and Keaton tells Reade he’s lucky to have her. As he walks away, Reade questions if that was genuine or fake like her own firing. Zapata denies that it’s fake, but Reade insists he’s distrustful of everyone. She tells him he can trust her but is unconvinced.

Nash calls Dominic, warning him that the FBI is on their way to the university. Dominic assures him he’s long gone, and Nash criticizes the way his men handled Wallace. Dominic reminds him he gave them ten minutes notice and that Wallace is no longer a problem before declaring that Helios is on track.

Jane and Weller report that Dominic wasn’t at the university, but they found the woman Dominic was talking to – Erin Sandler. Reade tells Jane and Zapata to talk to Erin and Weller suggests they force Madeline to talk. Reade reminds him that Madeline won’t talk without her lawyer, but Weitz argues that Madeline didn’t actually ask for her lawyer. Reade argues against it, but Weitz overrules him and Reade makes a call asking to speak to Hirst.

Erin refuses to talk, but Jane and Zapata warn her that she will be considered an accessory to Dominic’s crimes. However, Erin tells them her operation with Dominic is above their clearance. Jane asks what she’s talking about and Erin tells them she’s working with the CIA.

Weller puts a picture of Dominic meeting with Erin in front of Madeline and demands she start talking. Madeline reminds him what she said about her lawyer, but Weller tells her lives are in danger. He asks what Helios is, but Madeline plays dumb. Weller bangs his fists on the table and demands that she help him.

Madeline tells Weller she doesn’t know anything about it, and he asks where Dominic is. She tells him she doesn’t know, insisting she’s cut ties with Dominic. Weller warns her that anyone who dies today is her responsibility.

Zapata and Jane show Erin Wallace’s picture and she confirms he recruited her. Jane tells her he isn’t CIA, but Erin tells them Wallace showed her his credentials. Zapata tells her that the CIA doesn’t flash credentials to people, and that he used his former CIA knowledge to fool her.

Jane tells her he plans to release the virus today as Madeline avoids Weller’s questioning by talking about his father. She tells him that her father still helped others after he lost everything, and Weller urges her to do the same thing. Madeline insists she knows nothing about Dominic’s plan and Weller asks her to give him something.

Madeline gives up Dominic’s old phone number, telling him she’s doing it for her father. Weller tells her that her father would be proud of her, and she replies this is what he would have wanted. Jane tells Erin they believe the virus will be used in a massive biological attack, but Erin tells her she gave Dominic a computer virus that he claimed was for a study.

Patterson and Rich explain the nature of the virus, explaining that it could destroy a nuclear reactor. Patterson tells Weller that Dominic’s phone is turned off, but Rich explains they might be able to turn it on remotely. Reade argues it might be their only chance as Dominic shoots a man and takes his wallet.

Reade confronts Weitz about not seeming to care about the potential attack, and Weitz suggests that he has more faith in the team than he does. Weitz is confident that he’ll get the Director job, telling Reade the FBI might soon be his. Rich and Patterson report that Dominic turned off the phone the moment they turned it on, and Reade tells the team to go to his last known location.

Jane checks on Weller, and he admits he misses Bethany. She assures him she misses her too and suggests they move to Colorado to be closer to her. Jane sticks Bethany’s drawing in his vest, telling him they should save the world.

The team goes to Dominic’s last known location and find the man’s body. Patterson sends a photo of the man’s face to Rich who identifies him as a government employee who works as a team that monitors the entire Eastern power grid. He sees that the man has logged in for his shift and realizes that Dominic intends to take control of the power grid.

Dominic shoots the rest of the team and gets to work. Rich reports that he can’t access the network anymore and Patterson will have to stop the virus from within. Weitz questions if they’re expecting the worst, and Rich confirms that losing the entire grid would be a catastrophe.

As Weitz takes a call, Reade gets a call and asks Hirst why Weller visited her. Dominic works on uploading the virus as Kathy texts him. The team enters the building and split up. Patterson and Zapata enter the control room and Patterson sees that the virus has been uploaded. Zapata tells her she needs to stop it, expressing confidence in Patterson’s abilities.

Weller and Jane engage in a shootout with Dominic, and Dominic declares his plan is just beginning. He texts Kathy there’s been a change of plans and is shot multiple times as he approaches Jane and Weller. Dominic dies before he can tell Weller anything and Weller unlocks his cell phone using facial recognition.

Patterson tells Rich she’s working as fast as she can and is locked out of the system. Weller hands her Dominic’s phone as Weitz rants that he didn’t get the Director job. Patterson is unable to stop the virus as the FBI office goes black. Weller, Jane, Patterson, and Zapata watch as the entire city goes dark and Madeline smirks while in custody.
