The episode opens with Kat (Mayim Bialik) telling Carter (Julian Gant) about the one year cat-a-versary for her cafe. She convinces him with things they will be doing, including her mom Sheila (Swoosie Kurtz) dressing and acting like a cat and having kettle corn. He says she should have led with that and that he will attend.

She then asks about Max (Cheyenne Jackson), who is okay around Carter, but not when Kat’s name is mentioned. He even broke a soda gun when he heard her name. However, she is still determined to invite him to the party even though he refuses to listen or accept her apology. She goes so far as to follow him into the bathroom, but that does not go over well either.

At the cafe Oscar(Christopher Rivas) is putting up a banner for the party. Kat says it looks nice and he jokes that he has been doing squats.

Sheila is sitting with one of the cats, Mr. Mousekers, on her lap. She tells Kat he is asleep and wants him to move so she can use the bathroom. At first Kat thinks it is cute, but then she realizes he is dead.

Phil (Leslie Jordan) then comes out saying the oven is broken and wonders what else can go wrong when he realizes what happened to the cat.

Oscar, Randi (Kyla Pratt) and Phil all try to comfort her, but she is heartbroken. Oscar says it is a cat and not a person, but she says he was the first cat they took in and the only one who was able to use the toilet. She goes upstairs and says she wants to be alone. She also asks Randi to pick up the ashes.

Later on Randi goes to see Carter and explain she has the ashes and she is afraid to put them in her car. She says a ghost cat might haunt it, causing Carter to think she is crazy. However, he invites her in to spend time together.

Phil brings Kat dinner and tries to make her feel better, but she sends him home because she still wants to be alone and he is annoying her.

After he leaves, Max comes over with whiskey to make her feel better. They share cat memories and finally make up. As they laugh over it they almost kiss, causing Max to go home quickly.

Ray the maintenance guy (Travis Howard) says he needs to get  a part to fix the oven, causing Phil to yell at him. They begin to banter as Kat walks in, wondering what is going on. Ray says everything is under control, but continues to banter with Phil. After he leaves Phil admits that he has such a crush on him. Kat is completely invested, but cares more about how the party is going to be a fun-eral for the cat instead.

Randi comes in and Kat asks if she has the ashes. She says yes, but Kat is suspicious. Randi assures her it is okay and that she is up to speed on the fun-eral. However, she left it at Carter’s who left it in his car service.

Oscar stops by with apology flowers and admits he is wrong. Randi tells him what she did and he thanks her for taking the heat off him. Meanwhile, Ray and Phil continue to banter and bond.

Later on Randi and Kat discuss Max vs. Oscar. Randi tells her that she should focus on the man she is getting naked with.

At the fun-eral Wyatt (Tim Bagley) shows up and up a picture of his grandma Lassie. Sheila is dressed for her Cats performance, saying she used Mr. Mousekers as a model for her makeup because his face is in her mind.

Meanwhile, Randi yells at Max for the almost kiss. He wonders how she knew about that, when Carter gets her saying that the ashes are two hours away. He got a different box with rice as a placeholder.

Phil prepares Kat for the fun-eral as she goes to get the ashes. Randi and Phil give her the box and make up a cover story as to why it is in a different box.

Kat reads a poem and then begins a song with Ray, Max and Phil. Everyone is super into it, especially Wyatt and Sheila.

Afterward, Max tells Kat that he broke up with Bridgette (Schuyler Helford) because there was love but no friendship and that he did want to kiss her that night. He says this is bad timing and his bold move. Kat asks imaginary Bridgette if it is true and it is all confirmed.

Kat is overwhelmed and goes to freshen up when she knocks over the box. She discovers it is filled with rice and asks what is happening. Randi and Carter try to come up with a cover story, but admit the truth. Kat is upset, until Oscar shows up with the ashes. He pretended to be at work when in reality he was driving to Chicago to get the ashes.

Kat is touched, but confused since she has two men she loves and love her back. Sheila brings over another cat, saying they are soulmates.

The season ends with the music starting again and everyone saying goodbye.
