Camren Bicondova – Gotham

Q) What made you want to be a part of the show “Gotham” and take on the role of Selina Kyle?

A)  I like to play Selina because she is very intriguing to me. She is fourteen years old going on thirty years old and that’s what I love about her; her maturity. It’s fun being able to play such a character because there are so many layers to her that I get to portray.

Q) How was the character originally described to you?

A) I thought that I was auditioning for a, “14 year old girl named Lucy, skilled pickpocket, street-thief, and orphan. MUST BE GOOD AT CAT MOVEMENTS.” That is what the audition notes said about the character.

Q) Was there anything you added to the role that wasn’t originally scripted for you?

A) For the final audition, they said that it was optional to prepare a set of cat movements; I wanted to get the part, so I choreographed my own set of cat moves.

Q) In what ways is she different/similar to the Catwoman portrayals of film stars Halle Berry and Michelle Pfieffer?

A) Since “Gotham” explores the origin stories of Commissioner Gordon and all of the villains that made Gotham City famous, Selina is just a teenager. But, she moves fluidly, unless in danger, like a cat. She’s quiet and observant.

Q) What is Selina’s relationship like with Bruce Wayne at this point in their lives?

A) Bruce and Selina haven’t met yet, at this point in our filming. (We’re filming episode seven at the moment.) But at some point in the series, I think they will become friends.

Q) What has been your favorite part of portraying such an iconic role?

A) I love everything about this character. I love to be able to put on a costume and become someone else. I love being on set, I love working with my cast mates, I just…I feel honored to be part of something like “Gotham.” I love everything about it!

Q) Catwoman is quite a fierce foe. How did you manage all the stunts involved with the role?

A) I go running or go to the gym and have been keeping up my dancing (even if it’s “taking class” off of Youtube). I took some parkour classes before moving to New York as well!

Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming “Gotham?”

A)  On our first day of filming the pilot, it was so cold that I had to thaw out my hands and legs for about forty-five minutes! Also, on the last day of filming the pilot, we had to paste a whole bunch of hand/feet warmers all over my body. It felt very nice. Haha!

Q) What do you think it is about “Gotham” that will make it a fast fan favorite?

A) Well, you don’t have to have to be a Batman fan to enjoy “Gotham.” For the people who are committed to Batman, there will be nuances in every episode that is leading up to the future. We are also never going to break the fourth wall of the classic mythology; DC Comics representatives are on set with us. As for the ones who don’t know as much about Batman, they will learn the origins WHILE enjoying a good old police procedural drama.

Q) You are a part of social media websites. Why is it important for you to connect with fans that way and are you looking forward to the instant feedback you will receive when the show premieres?

A) I have been part of social media for a while.  I tell people about my day and also like to see how everyone else’s lives are going.  It’s how I communicate with my friends/family, too…As far as “Gotham,” I feel confident that people will like it.  I’m excited to see the worlds reaction.

Q) Where can fans go online to learn more about you?

A)  I have a website: http://www.camrenbicondova.com —  Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Tumblr/Snapchat/Shots: @camrenbicondova

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I just want to say thank you. I work hard, so it means a lot. Especially to the dance industry; I honestly didn’t realize how many people were supportive of me. I’m very grateful for everyone.
