Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Hard to describe at this point because it’s always changing. [laughs] But I think people would just categorize our music as dance music. Indie dance maybe these days!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We both grew up on older music like Michael Jackson and both really enjoy pop music. But right now, a lot of Turnstile and Remi Wolf have been at the top of our playlists. As far as dance music goes, everything Skrillex has made. [laughs]

Q) “BYE!” is your second single after a four-year hiatus. What did you do with your time off and what made now the right time to release new music?

A) Really just planning our next move! We really didn’t plan our reunion, so it took us a bit to get things lined up. And “BYE!” just felt right.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “BYE!”

A) “Bye” is just a statement about how people can appear really desirable on the surface, but in reality, they’re just flakey and self-absorbed. I value dependability and communication more than sexual prowess, so I wrote a song about it.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Hoping just that people can relate to the lyrics and are entertained by it. It’s really just a fun song to listen to, not too deep!

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) We think it just goes well with the lightheartedness of the song. We just wanted to have fun with it and go crazy with the colors.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Usually, my song writing process starts with a concept. I will write stuff down throughout the day as I am inspired and then when it comes time to sit down and write, I have a list of ideas to choose from. After concept, I write chords and melodies and then, lastly, I will iron out lyrics. All of these steps can be applied in any order, but that is just the most common order I use.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) We’ve never had any extra help in terms of production or anything. All of it made in a shipping container in Isla Vista, California. 😊

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) We don’t have anything planned at the moment, but we’ve never made an album before. It’s definitely something on our bucket list for this project, but not at the top of our list right now. Just having fun putting out singles.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) There are a handful, but we’ve had some amazing memories in Florida, Denver, Texas and our favorite show we’ve played together was definitely Ottawa, Canada. But playing at home in Santa Barbara is probably the most special for us.

Q) What song(s) is one you still enjoy playing live?

A) We haven’t played a show together live in quite some time, but our remix of “Sandstorm” was always a good time.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Ethan would choose Remi Wolf, but as far as dance music is concerned our answer would be like every other DJ/producers and would be Skrillex.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Like we said earlier, Remi Wolf and Turnstile would be at the top for the two of us. Just both groundbreaking artists and just making some of the best music right now. Their live shows are incredible too, just huge fans.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Like most artists would admit, we could be better at social media. [laughs] It’s far more fun and personal for us to connect with fans in person at shows vs a DM. We’ve gotten to meet so many awesome and amazing people and stay in touch with them over the years. Like we said before, our fans have been with us for so long that they just feel like a group of friends to us.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thanks for sticking around for so long!! We’ve been rocking with each other for over a decade at this point and if you’re still with us you’re family at this point!
