Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) International Latin Pop


Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Michael Jackson, Celia Cruz, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, La india


Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Azúcar.”

A) Azúcar came about in a convo about how I love bad boys like I love sugar. You know we always want what’s bad for us. [laughs] Junk food / candy / red meat / boys that ain’t good for us. [laughs]

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) For me it’s about the energy it completely changes your mood to a good mood…It’s a song made people dance and get off their seats.

 

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video has a story of a girl in love with a bartender that’s not good for her but she shows him that she’s over him and moving on, so he comes back for her attention.

 

Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics? 

A) I create on the spot. My team is incredible. We come up with ideas and concepts through the beat.


Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music? 

A) A lot. It is extremely important to me that to relate to the song

 

Q) How does your Puerto Rican heritage influence your music?

A) I love incorporating Latin sounds that can take back to a place of joy in Puerto Rico.

 

Q) What can fans expect from a live Chesca performance?

A) Lots of dope dancing / amazing outfits / an incredible live band and an awesome light show with some cool visuals.

 

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) Absolutely. Right now we are focusing on singles though.


Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you? 

A) I had the chance to build an incredible fanbase overseas. They welcomed me and loved me from the start. It takes me to a significant place because it made me realize how much I missed my Latinos and where I came from Puerto Rico.


Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) There’s so many! [laughs] Drake / Nicky jam / karolG/ Marc Anthony / Tory Lanez

 

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them? 

A) I love the Carters. I think their relationship is #goals.


Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It just allows me to learn more about what they want to see and hear it helps me create when building music.


Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) To allow me to continue to share my music/life story and struggle with them and to allow me to inspire and motivate them to go for their dreams no matter the obstacles.
