Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I don’t believe I have just one sound. It really depends on the song and the attitude and feelings I’m trying to emote. From a gritty-rock country song of an angry woman done wrong to an aching ballad of devastation, I immerse myself into the character and the story I’m telling and hope the listener can not only hear, but “feel” the song.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) My first and greatest musical influence was my mom. I grew up hearing her play guitar and sing, instilling the love of music in me from as early as I can remember. There are so many female artists that inspired me along the way including The Judds, Reba McEntire, Crystal Gayle and Linda Ronstadt. I also greatly admire Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert and Trisha Yearwood.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “One Box of Tissues.”

A) When I first heard “One Box of Tissues” I knew it was something I wanted to record. A good friend of mine, Debbie Pascarella, and Dani Jamerson wrote the song. They took the topic of a break-up, which typically is a sad, painful ordeal and turned it into a light-hearted checklist of how to process the emotional wreckage and move on.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think most people have gone through a break-up at some point in their life, and I could almost guarantee they have done at least one of the checklist items in the song to get through it. If not, maybe it will give them some good ideas if they ever do experience a heartbreak.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video is a true homage to the song. We recorded a montage of all the steps in the “plan” as outlined in the lyrics and I believe it is just as light-hearted and funny as the song itself. I had so much fun performing in the video and I love how it turned out.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) My song writing process usually starts with an idea, whether it’s a title or a hook, and goes from there. I’m more of a lyricist and typically write lyrics before figuring out the melody, but in some cases a melody comes to me with the lyrics. I also collaborate with some great co-writers.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I have an amazing producer, Denny Martin, who has become a good friend and co-writer. We have developed a good rapport and work together on every step of the production process. I love being in the studio and being actively involved in each song’s progression into a full production.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Corinne Cook performance?

A) My performances vary depending on the venue, but the performances I enjoy the most are when I can interact with the audience. I prefer the freedom of a cordless mic so I can move around and engage with everyone.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming soon?

A) My latest album was released in 2018 and includes the current single “One Box of Tissues.” The album is titled Yes I Can, which is also the title of the next single to be released. I started working on a new project that I anticipate will be released late 2019 or early 2020.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) My favorite place I’ve performed so far is The Bluebird Café in Nashville. It is such an iconic venue and I was honored to be standing where so many famous artists have stood. I also frequently perform at the Commodore Grille and the Millennium Maxwell House in Nashville. This year I’ll also be performing at the CMA Fest in Nashville.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would love to collaborate with The Warren Brothers. They have written so many hits songs and I was very fortunate to record six of their songs on my last album Dressed Up for Goodbye. They are good friends, great storytellers and amazing performers.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m currently digging Kelsea Ballerini’s new single, “Miss Me More.” I like the message it conveys about being true to yourself and not changing who you are for somebody else. I carry that philosophy not only in my own music, but also in life.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Social media allows me to reach a larger audience that knows no geographical boundaries. With a few keystrokes, I can share music, photos, news and performance dates with my fans. It is a very powerful tool that has drastically changed the music landscape for Indie artists like me.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would like to say thank you for the love and support. I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to listen, like and share my music. You inspire me to continue on this journey and I’m so glad you’re all along for the ride.
