WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Have you ever wanted to be famous, so badly that it landed you in a mental institution? If you are Bob Markus (Gregory Lay) that answer is a resounding “yes.” The only thing in the world that Bob dreams of is being famous and he will do practically anything to achieve this goal. How far is he willing to go? Would he strip down to his underwear and use a trampoline to vault his way over the security fence for Camp David? Yup. Would he rob a gun shop shortly after breaking out of a mental institution? Yup. Would he go on a mission to kill Bin Laden, years after he has already been reported to have been killed? You guessed it, yup. If you’re wondering what it is that is the driving force behind Bob’s obsession with being famous: “If I was famous, I mean like really famous, people would seek me out. I would have value. People would finally notice me… You know what is worse than being bullied or hated? Being ignored.”

Despite his ambition, Bob can’t do it alone. Enter a varied and hilarious cast of characters:  Mr. Smith (Richard Short) believes himself to be a top CIA agent who knows the true whereabouts of Bin Laden and Elvis. Larry (Victor Cruz) is a patient with anger issues, eating disorder and agoraphobia. Then, there is a patient that is only known as “Dr. Phil” (David Neal Levin) who does an amazing impression and who I (frankly) like more than the real Dr. Phil. Sorry, but it’s true.

If you are looking for a movie with humor, fight scenes, escape scenes, police car chases, gun fights and yet is a story about a man who never felt like he was good enough in the eyes of his parents – a feeling which colored the rest of his existence – then you should definitely watch Crazy Famous.

“There comes a time where you have to take a good hard look at the reality around you.” – Bob
