The story is finally on October 4, 1977: the last live performance of the band. From the outside, everything appears to be normal. But Karen’s (Suki Waterhouse) worrisome glances over at Graham (Will Harrison) and Eddie’s (Josh Whitehouse) black eye denote otherwise. When present-day Billy (Sam Claflin) tells the interviewer “there’s a lot you don’t know,” the flashback shows Billy going backstage and pulling out a flask.

Ten hours prior everyone was arriving to their hotel in Chicago. Still reeling from finding Billy and Daisy (Riley Keough) in a personal moment, Camila (Camila Morrone) is very standoffish. As Rod (Timothy Olyphant) hands out the room keys, Karen and Eddie are in a similar standoffish mood. Daisy goes to collect her key and is surprised by Simone (Nabiyah Be) in the hotel lobby. The ladies head to lunch and Daisy congratulates Simone on being signed to Attic Records. However, Simone mentions that she turned down the record label because of their insistence of hiding Simone’s sexuality. Seeing how happy and in love Simone is, Daisy finally admits that she can no longer be around Billy.

Back at the hotel Camila decides to confront Billy in the hallway about his moment with Daisy. Demanding answers, Camila pushes until Billy admits about the kiss he and Daisy shared while recording the album. When Camila asks if he has feelings for Daisy he is hesitant to broach the issue. The conversation is interrupted as Daisy goes to enter her room. This is enough for Camila to tell Billy she’s done and storm off. Daisy asks Billy what happened and he tells her that he told her the truth: he has feelings for Daisy but nothing will ever come of it. Billy heads down the hall to his room, leaving a tearful Daisy behind.

For Karen and Graham, on the elevator ride up to their room…Karen comes clean about ending the pregnancy. This throws Graham for a bit of a loop and he walks out of the elevator alone, leaving behind a vulnerable Karen. While both Karen and Graham are barely holding it together at the concert, Daisy comes over to Karen at the keyboard and the two women share a much-needed embrace.

A few hours before showtime a conflicted Daisy has found a piano in the hotel to play on…this is where Camila finds her. As Daisy tries to explain that Billy will always choose Camila, we hear from Camila that Billy’s explanation as one where he stays with her and Julia out of duty. Before leaving Daisy to her thoughts, Camila admits to her that she is more like Billy than she realizes.

Back in the hotel room, Billy is barely keeping it together and ends up smashing his guitar in a fit of rage. Hearing a knock at the door, Billy opens it to find Eddie has come to pay him a visit. The visit is anything but pleasant while Eddie unleashes his frustration for always playing second fiddle to Billy’s lead. From re-recording his bass tracks during the album sessions to taking his place on stage at Pittsburgh, Eddie has had it and tells Billy that he’s quitting. When Billy takes a dig at Eddie’s talent and telling him he isn’t good enough, Eddie alludes to his night with Camila…which earns him a well-deserved punch to the face. Eddie leaves and Billy immediately starts going into a destructive mode.

In her room Daisy also begins her own downward spiral. Drinking champagne and emptying her bag to find her pills, Daisy remembers the envelope that she received with her real name on it. Opening the envelope, she finds there are pictures of her childhood, including one with her mother and a phone number on the back of one of the pictures. Upon calling the number she is greeted with the voice of her mother. While hoping for a positive phone call, Daisy realizes her narcissistic mother has not changed her ways and she ends the call and the relationship with her mother.

By sound check Karen has had enough of the silent treatment and decides to try talking to Graham about her choice. Graham seemed to be the only one who thought Karen would change her mind while Karen was always adamant that she was not meant to be a mother. Graham starts to get upset that Karen did not think to include having him there for moral support, but she knows that Graham would not have accepted her decision and she decides to leave him alone. Before leaving Graham tells Karen she will always be alone.

Blowing off sound check and desperate to get out of the hotel, Billy finds himself at a pay phone in a bar. He calls the hotel looking for Camila and leaves a tearful voice message pleading for her to come to the show tonight. Needing a friendly voice, Billy then tries to call Teddy (Tom Wright) and finds that he does not want to stress Teddy out any more. On the way out of the pay phone, a patron recognizes Billy and offers to buy him a drink. Having no will power to resist, Billy takes his first drink since rehab.

Also falling off her own wagon, Daisy goes through her liquor cabinet and stash at an alarming rate. After completely blowing off sound check, she gets ready for the gig by donning the darkest eyeshadow to match her mood. With an angry Rod trying to determine the whereabouts of his two lead singers, the rest of the band members set up for sound check. Warren (Sebastian Chacon) notices Eddie’s sullen demeanor and black eye, giving Eddie a dose of reality that he is in one of the biggest bands in the country and should be grateful for their success. Eddie tells Warren he wants more out of life.

By 8:33 pm Billy arrives and finds out that Camila has not come. He heads to the bathroom to compose himself and falls even further into self-destruction. Daisy arrives not long after and calms Rod’s frazzled nerves. As the band heads out to get ready for the show, Billy and Daisy are the only two in the room. Having a moment alone, Billy kisses Daisy.

During the show Camila arrives to watch the band onstage for their final number. She listened to Billy’s heartfelt voicemail and decided to come after all. However, noticing how close Billy and Daisy are onstage and recalling her own memories of her husband, she believes that she is only in the way. Believing that this is the end, she leaves to go back to the hotel.

As the show comes to a close before encore, Billy and Daisy continue where they left off in the dressing room. Daisy wants to know the change of heart and Billy tells her that Camila has left him. With both of them broken, they should be together. Hurt by Billy’s comment, Daisy tells him she is not broken.

Also backstage, Graham tells Karen that he loves her and whatever she decides to do is fine by him…as long as they are together. Graham believes Karen loves him, but instead she says that she does not feel the same and dumps him. Graham is devastated.

Going back on to end the night with “Look At Us Now,” Daisy addresses the audience and tells them that this is a love song. And that if you find someone who brings you into the light, to keep them. The song starts and Billy realizes that Daisy was subliminally telling him to go to Camila. Unable to perform further, Billy leaves to head back to the hotel and save his marriage. With Billy rushing back to the hotel, the band barely holds it together onstage to finish the song.

Luckily getting back to the hotel in enough time, Billy stops Camila and Julia (Naya Kodeh) from leaving. In their room, Billy admits to Camila that he doesn’t let her see every part of him the way Daisy sees him. Camila takes offense to that as she has been there every step of the way. When Julia comes out of her room to interrupt her parents, the present day filmmaker speaks to Billy and reveals herself to be Julia (Seychelle Gabriel). In the flashback after putting Julia back to sleep, Billy packs a bag and promises to put in the work to fix their marriage before leaving.

At the concert afterparty, Simone gets some help from Teddy and they arrange for Daisy to leave and head to rehab. The next morning, Rod tries to figure out how to break the news to the band about Daisy leaving. However, Eddie’s swift departure in a taxi and Graham deciding not to get back on the tour bus seals the fate of the band.

In the aftermath everyone in the band is doing what they wanted. Karen continued to live her rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and travel. Graham returned to Hazelwood where he settled down, fell in love, and started a family. While Graham is grateful that Karen was honest with him that day, Karen admits that she lied about not loving Graham because it was the right thing to do. Eddie has been in and out of bands and still loves to perform. Warren became a session drummer, married his hot celebrity girlfriend, and started a family. Simone and Bernie (Ayesha Harris) opened a club called Haven in New York, where Simone still occasionally takes to the stage. After the breakup, Rod quit the business. As for Teddy, he died in 1983 of another heart attack doing what he loved best: making music.

As for Daisy, she managed to get sober, have a daughter and pursue a solo music career. Billy went to rehab and attended therapy to work on himself. He ended up mending his relationship with Camila and became a more attentive parent. Both Billy and Daisy needed time to heal and become their own people. And for Billy life was great, up until the death of Camila.

The band members reflect on their memories of Camila, but Julia reveals to her father and Daisy that Camila has left them both a message. Playing the beginning of Camila’s interview, Daisy learns that Camila was always her biggest fan and knew she was capable of great things. And Billy was a great husband. But with her gone, Camila tells Billy to call Daisy and for Daisy to answer. In the final scene,Billy stands in front of Daisy’s door and knocks….Daisy opening to greet him. As they stare at one another, Camila’s voice has one more thing to add: those two still owe her a song.
