In their documentary the band starts to recall the recording process of “Aurora” and how Billy (Sam Claflin) and Daisy’s (Riley Keough) rapport with one another began to flourish. As the songs got better and better, Daisy and Billy’s relationship became one of passion and camaraderie. Meanwhile, Graham (Will Harrison) and Karen’s (Suki Waterhouse) relationship also continues to secretly heat up as they are still not ready to tell anyone. However, Teddy (Tom Wright) throws a little wrench into the happy bubble when he calls Rolling Stone and journalist Jonah Berg (Nick Pupo) comes to do a story on them.

At home Camila (Camila Morrone) takes on more of the parenting duties when Billy delves into songwriting. One night she realizes Billy still has not come to bed and finds him outside on the phone with Daisy. Coincidentally, she also finds Billy’s notepad with lyrics that are less “happy home” and more about feeling stuck in life. Camila’s concern starts to grow.

At Sound City Jonah Berg’s presence begins to cause a sense of competition between Daisy and Billy. Their flirtations are present, but Daisy is eager to make Billy look like he needs a lot of work on his lyrics. During a moment that Daisy leaves the room, Jonah’s demeanor makes Billy feel the need to explain that him and Daisy are not an item and that their relationship is a fantasy for the audience.

To find her footing in California, Camila decides to return to the dark room to develop her pictures. When a colleague takes notice of how Daisy and Billy appear in the photos, this is enough for Camila to later confide in Karen that she needs something to keep of her own. Camila also takes the opportunity to grill Karen about Graham, especially since she can tell that Graham is really happy.

Later that night in bed Camila sees Billy come in from a long day of writing and asks him about the lyrics that she read. Billy tries to play it off but Camila then asks when she can hear what Billy wrote. Where Billy used to play her songs before they were complete, Camila is now on the outside as Billy assures her she can hear it when he is finished with it.

In the studio Daisy and Billy are going over a new song when Daisy feels she is hitting a low and needs to leave. Billy urges her to stay, but instead she takes a bump of cocaine before they agree to go for a drive. During the drive Billy admits that he has never been to the ocean since he moved to California, and they agree to head there. At the beach Billy and Daisy begin to be more honest with one another…especially when Daisy admits her real name is Margaret and that Billy admits she made their first song better. Getting back on the road, Billy escorts Daisy back to her room before he reluctantly pulls himself away to head home. When both are later asked, Billy realizes that he needed to leave before he was tempted to stay. After leaving, Daisy departs her room to find Jonah by the pool where he tells her what Billy said about their relationship.

Hurt by Billy’s words, Daisy does not show up the following day to record “Aurora” and Billy finds her high in the pool at the Chateau Marmont. When Billy calls her out for her mess, Daisy taunts Billy with Camila. The next day in the studio, Billy presents Daisy with a new song that he wrote for her. Daisy goes to record the song, but Billy uses the opportunity to push Daisy to her limit by making her record take after take. Frustrated, Daisy leaves the studio with Billy hot on her heels. Daisy confronts Billy and says that  she will sing the song if Billy is honest with her about his feelings. In a moment of heat, Billy kisses her and the track is later recorded.

Afterwards, Billy heads home to a sleeping Camila and realizes that his feelings have become more complicated. The next day during a photo shoot, Billy decides to bring Camila and baby Julia along for the photoshoot with Larry Scardino (Jeremy Gram Weaver). Billy figures out that the shoot is going to be different than he thought as Daisy has changed the look of it. The tension between the songwriters continues to grow, as does the secrecy of Graham and Karen’s tryst. Graham would like to be public, even though Karen wants to be viewed for her talent and not as a girlfriend. After the shoot Jonah approaches Billy about his former drinking problem and tells him that Daisy had told him about it.  Later, Camila captures Billy and Daisy with her camera, both of them in the middle of a heated argument over their kiss. Billy tells Daisy that he kissed her to get her to sing the song, which prompts Daisy to pull out her notebook while driving and crash. She has a new song for the album.

At home Camila decides that she needs a night out to herself. Leaving Billy with baby Julia, she goes out for a drink alone and runs into Eddie (Josh Whitehouse) while he is on a date. Camila tells Eddie to go back to his date as she doesn’t want to ruin it, but Eddie instead decides to end his date and hang out with her. While Camila is surprised Eddie chose her, he shares that he would choose her over anyone. Later, Camila heads home and in her interview admits that she is allowed to have a secret of her own.

The next day Billy enters the studio and finds that Eddie is avoiding him. He also learns that Daisy has written a song for him. When Billy refuses to record the album and the other band members are on board, Billy leaves the studio. The band records the song without him and the final track to “Aurora” is recorded. Upon leaving, Billy runs into Jonah in the parking lot. Feeling stung, Billy counters with some information about Daisy.

After the album was finished the band had a three-week break. During that time Karen and Graham spent more quality time together. Warren (Sebastian Chacon) rented a boat. Eddie ended up sticking around. For Daisy, she is dealt a hard blow when Jonah sends her a copy of his article about the band and finds some less-than-savory information in it…clearly from Billy. At home Billy and Camila address Billy’s passion and camaraderie with Daisy. Camila tells Billy that he sees their passion, but Billy assures her that he loves only her. Later when Billy goes to see Daisy, he finds that she has checked out of the hotel. Needing a fresh start, Daisy arrives in Greece.
