Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) “Unfair” is representative of our sound – a hybrid of pop, rock and electro, as if these genres never split apart but remained a single, fused supercontinent. The track is a good way to discover our music. It’s a ballad, maybe our most subtly mutant song, one you can curl up in and sail away, as smooth as Black’s “Wonderful Life” blended with Garbage and Archive.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We are five in the band. We all have our own musical universe, but we find ourselves on a common base: Radiohead, Foals, Elbow, D. Bowie, Cranberries, Les Verve, etc.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Unfair.”

A) A complex relationship, a consumed break in a schizophrenic atmosphere. A love story so passionate that it leaves traces, troubles and where we no longer differentiate between the real and the imaginary. Did the relationship really exist?

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Love passion is a universal notion, it evokes good or less good memories, it can be a quest, sometimes in vain. But generates certain emotions. If a song awakens this emotion, it opens up an inexhaustible imagination and everyone then appropriates the song…

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video, the image is also a vector of emotion, so it is an asset but it is a double-edged sword because it takes away the mystery of music and what we wanted to say. The video poses images on words and sounds. We can, therefore, like a title and less like its video.

Q) What is your song writing process?

A) It all starts with an acoustic guitar, a riff and a melody idea and it ends in rehearsal. Each one then brings his paw, his emotions and his technic.

Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Yes, absolutely. It is music that generates words that have their own sound. Sentences come out, a mixture of sentences and yogurt…Then, the theme becomes clearer and the text unfolds.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Yes, it is a real collaboration with the producer. Who offers an artistic orientation, sounds, effects, arrangements that we validate or not then we move forward…

Q) What can fans expect from a live Deleo performance?

A) Travel and enjoy listening to Emy [Eris]. Try not to disguise the sound quality of the album.

Q) What can you tease are some themes you will be exploring on your upcoming EP?

A) The melancholy, the emotions provoked by different moments in life: hope, joy, doubts, despair, sadness shared as a couple, with family or friends.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) We haven’t played it yet but being from the South of France, the “Arènes de Nîmes” for the magic of the site and the sound quality is a goal for us! We saw so many bands play there that influence our sound.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) The bands we love – Radiohead, Elbow or Archive!

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Hail to the Thief from Radiohead, Regeneration from Divine Comedy, Disintegration from The Cure and many more! Creative albums that explore and take risks.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) For an independent group, social networks allow us direct interaction, without intermediaries! The public can easily find us and we can easily build our fanbase.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) To continue to follow us because after the EP, which will be released in May, our first album of twelve tracks already produced by James Sanger and mastered in London arrives end of the year!!
