Desert Dwellers – Breath Re-Imagined

By  |

By: Robert Warren

Q) What can you tell us about the first two Breath Re-Imagined volumes that carry over into the third?

Treavor: Vol 1 focuses on downtempo bass music styles mostly and features many artists we’ve worked with and known for many years now like Bluetech, Erothyme, Nanosphere and Mindex. Vol 2 focuses on the downtempo/slow bpm house music style that the original Breath album also focuses on. For this we needed to bring on artists we mostly have never worked with before like Coss & Iorie, Rapossa, Nhii and Unders.

Q) What made you decide to make these volumes into a trilogy?

Treavor: We have always had remix albums done for each of our previous albums and for this we knew we wanted three specific styles of remixes so a trilogy made the most sense due to each style being quite different from each other.

Q) What separates Breath Re-Imagined, Vol. 3 from the rest?

Treavor: Vol 3 is an uptempo tribal/progressive house style whereas both Vol 1 and Vol 2 focus on more downtempo slower tempo sounds.

Q) What are some themes you explore on this album?

Treavor: Being a remix album that has ten different artists remixing different tracks means that the themes are unique on each remix. Some of them focus on the vocals more while others focus on the rhythms and tribal percussive elements

Q) How did the Breath Re-Imagined series turn out to be a genre-twisting adventure?

Treavor:  Answer for #2 same here

Q) What are some songs off this album volume that hold a special place in your heart and why?

Treavor: While I really love all ten remixes, there’s something about the Jamie Stevens remix that really hits home for me – the way he cut up our samples and carries the deep tribal vibe all the way through. I also love watching the crowd when we play Yuli Fershtat’s remix of “Longing For Home.” It really has a groove that gets the crowd jumping. Of course, having artists I’ve been a fan of and looked up to for years on this album is an amazing feeling like D-Nox and Djuma Soundsystem.

Q) What equipment do you use to achieve the hypnotic and driving rhythms that set the song?

Treavor: We use Logic and for our rhythm sections mostly NI Battery and Logic’s built in drum machines. We also cut up a lot of samples.

Q) What do you hope people take away from the Vol.3 specifically?

Treavor: For me, I hope people connect with the fact that we are not a one dimensional artist. We put forth a wide array of tempos and styles which shows our very diverse taste in music.

Q) Who would you love to collaborate with on a song in the future?

Treavor – Billie Eilish…I know totally possible right…I’m sure I’m on top of her list, too!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?

Treavor: Please stick around, we need you more than ever!
