Filmspeed – Bless My Soul

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Bless My Soul.”

A) There really isn’t a story behind it that we know of. We wrote the chorus and structured the narrative around it. So I guess it’s a distorted egocentric view of being a badass in a place you’ve “conquered,” but people keep throwing punches trying to know you down. Either way that ego’s still going home a winner and with your girl.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) It’s one of the songs you can just put in headphones and pick your head up. Go out for a walk and tell us it doesn’t turn into you mouthing the words karate punching the sky.

Q) What was it like working with Jason Hollis on the production of the single?

A) It was like working with a professional. He knew what he wanted, he stripped things, added little sparkles and kept us happy the whole time. It was our first time working with him, so we wanted to see what he was going to do different. So, he got the songs reins and we let him go. Things went so good actually that we got him working on two more with us. Shh! Secret time.

Q) What was the songwriting process like for the track “Shakey Love?”

A) The process was quite unbelievable to say the least. We wrote that song the day before we recorded it. Craig [Broomba] and Nick [Stout] finished the lyrics while they were driving to Manifest Studio’s in Santa Monica. We actually never even practiced the song as a band. So when we got all set up to record we did a “practice run”. That practice run was the first time we played it as a full band.

Q) You’re out on The Consistently Off Tour on the West Coast. What can fans expect from a live Filmspeed performance?

A) Unapologetic rock n’ roll! We strive to put on the best performance whether it be 1 person or a million. Let’s get out and have a night to remember!!!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) We like to play anywhere with a good stage, good sound and a crowd. There has been some really awesome places we have had the opportunity to play at. So, to choose one seems a little mean. [laughs]

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Oh man! Craig and Nick would definitely pick Butch Walker. He’s a producer, singer, songwriter, master of all arts kind of guy. We know that we could go into his studio and create a damn good song. He’s someone that we have had in our sights since we moved out to California and until we have the budget and clout he will just be in our sights. [laughs] As for Oliver, I’m sure that if Say Anything asked him to drum he would quit our band and block our cell phone numbers. Business wise, put us with Post Malone and I will never have to personally respond to another email in my life. Instant platinum plaques in my foyer.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Right this second I am listening to Anderson.Paak – Oxnard on vinyl. If you don’t know why I dig him you should probably look him up on tiny desk concert. The man is just a groove train of ear candy.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) If you are trying to do anything in this industry and aren’t named The Rolling Stones you better be on social media. Social media drives the modern music industry climate. Whether it be Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reverbnation, Soundcloud, iTunes, etc. you need to stay on top of it so that your fans know what you are doing. New pics, new titles, new songs, new posts. Shit is overwhelming and tiresome, but it’s fundamental to growth and success. Someday we will have a social media intern…Oh the dreams.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you to anyone that has talked to us, shared stories, gave hugs, listened, etc. We appreciate everyone one of you and the support shown. XOXOXO
