In the Summer drinking a daiquiri alongside the refreshment of the beach under an umbrella in a comfortable swimsuit may sound nice, if not heavenly, but there has to be something to look forward to in the Summer when you want to be indoors. Here it is! This is a list of Summer movies to anticipate as they bring on the female lead, rag-to-riches stories, parent/superhero balances, to beg for sequels and even those cute little baby raptor dinosaurs from the first Jurassic World movie! Here is my Summer movie suggestions for the 2018 summer season. Enjoy!

1. Incredibles 2- June 15 Release

When it comes to heroes, Incredibles 2 is full of them! Here is an animated film that is bringing female lead, Helen Parr (Holly Hunter) a.k.a. Elastigirl, to the forefront. Good job Disney! It couldn’t be more exciting seeing now the man, Bob Parr a.k.a. Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), having to take care of the kids (three children at that) at home where he may not be quite as incredible as their mom works to save the day! It is a flip flop of roles in this movie as Elastigirl works to save crime bringing the action to this movie as Mr. Incredible handles the kids, which brings in some of the comedy. (It seems the movie industry is starting to take a liking to this flip-flop of roles similar to how the 2018 movie Overboard flip-flopped the roles played from that in the 1987 version of the film.) The overall idea of bringing Elastigirl to the front for Incredibles 2 is genius as it is a good balance of action with the at-home father comedy. To those who loved the first Incredibles movie but were skeptical of a second, there is good news to be had! The director and writer remain the same as the first film, Brad Bird. So, there is consistency to be had with its delivery. The second film is taking off where the first one left off too, at Syndromes defeat. Right from the get-go the Incredibles work to protect against an attempt to rob a bank. Exciting! Perhaps what people love about the Incredibles is the spandex humor, the family bonds, the distinct personalities and/or or the relatability to the characters, but there is something for everyone to enjoy. Get ready for Elastigirl to pull you right back into the movie and let’s see how this is plays out. After such a great presentation on the first Incredibles movie we have high hopes in this one.

2. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom- June 22 Release

Being a sequel to the 2015 Jurassic World movie and the fifth installment in the prehistoric park series both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back, which couldn’t make this more exciting to see! Getting back to the world of dinosaurs as a volcano starts roaring like it might erupt, Owen Grady (Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Howard) work to rescue the remaining dinosaurs in an extinction level event! If it is as jam packed with thrilling suspense and action like the 2015 Jurassic World (which Pratt actually won an MTV Movie Award for Best Action Performance) then this movie is going to be rad! Going further, have you seen the teaser poster for this movie yet? I mean look at it! Dinosaurs are running speedily in the background, a volcano is erupting and Pratt/Howard are grabbing one another as they bolt through the scene. Also, let’s not forget the baby raptors, which were flat out adorable. Well, before the trailer was even released the first film’s director, J.A. Boyana, sent out a tweet in 2017 that was a sneak peek showing Pratt with a new baby raptor. So, from adorable baby raptors, an extinction level threat of a volcano and a continuation from the Guinness World Record setting Jurassic World, which set a record for fastest time for a movie to gross $1 billion at the global box office, this just all around looks like something you need to see this summer. Especially when there are baby raptors! I mean, did I mention that? Definitely a must on my list. Plus, you get to see dinosaurs, which is always exciting on the screen.

3. Ant-Man and the Wasp- July 6 Release

Hello comic book lovers, Marvel maniacs and sequel loving film junkies! Marvel Studios has created something all of us can be ready for on July 6, the sequel to Ant-Man! This film stars Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp and Paul Rudd who is Ant-Man yet again! As you may recall from Captain America Civil War, Scott Lang was working on dealing with his choices as both a superhero and father. Here he is in this movie figuring that out that father/hero balance when he gets an assignment to suit up and team up with the Wasp as they fight together to uncover secrets from their past! Marvel does not do small. Under the same director as the 2015 Ant-Man movie, Peyton Reed takes Ant-Man back to the screen with this sequel. There are tons to be excited about here aside the fact that this is a sequel. Starting off, it will be fun to see how Ant-Man plays off the Wasp in their interactions with this movie as they both venture to learn secrets from the past. Secondly, it will be interesting to see how Ant-Man handles his hero/father balance and how well he does with it. Thirdly, this is Marvel and if there is anything we can learn from the comic creators is that they are full of surprises. It will be fun to see the madness behind some of Marvel and the surprises they shock us with. If it’s action sci-fi adventure Ant-Man and the Wasp is something to look forward to.

4. McQueen- July 20 Release

When it comes to learning more on important people it is always good to hit up some good Summer documentaries. One to prepare yourself for is the release of McQueen, which endeavors into the life of a brilliant fashion designer named Alexander McQueen. What is exciting and exhilarating about this upcoming work is the content of the film from interviews with his closest friends to archived footage of the designer himself. Making this film most special is that everyone plays themselves in this film. As someone who thrived off making an epic, the designer said, “If you leave without emotion then I am not doing my job properly.” It is quotes like that separated him in his style and creativity. McQueen had many of his fashion on the covers of high profile publications like Vogue, The New York Times and Cosmopolitan, just to name a few. It is through his work that this man left a legacy with his bold pieces that he created for the fashion world. If you`ve heard the name McQueen you need to see this film and if you have not then you need to sit in the front row as you are taken back in awe of a great designer in the fashion industry. Needless to say, this is a Summer must see.

5. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – July 20 Release

It has been ten years since the first Mamma Mia musical came to our theaters and here we go again…finally! It is about time this sequel came out. The first musical, which featured hit music from the 1970`s group ABBA, was a story of an upcoming bride Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who was in search of her father. Now, in this sequel she gets to learn about her mother’s past while being pregnant herself. Finally, the songs are back and the story continues! There is not much more to say other than you can look forward to hearing the music of Mamma Mia again, enjoy top notch performances by legendary actors from Meryl Streep to Cher to Colin Firth to Pierce Brosnan and more!
