Flat River Band – Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight

By: Karen Steinberg

Q) How would you describe your sound?

Chad: Country music wrapped in three-part harmony.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

Andy: Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, Gatlin Brothers, Eagles and any band that has a harmony focus.

Q) I absolutely love your take on “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight.” What inspired you to cover the single?

Dennijo: I remember watching a re-run of “The Dukes of Hazzard” and watching Rosco’s celebrity speed trap where the Oak Ridge Boys had to perform at the boar’s nest and the song they played was “Leaving Louisiana in The Broad Daylight.” This song was super impactful to us.

Q) Did you spend time talking with The Oak Ridge Boys to discuss how you would revamp their hit single?

Dennijo: We actually went in the studio with producer Tre Corely and he was able to help us pull off the traditional country sound with a modern edge. We then sent over the rough mix to Duane Allen and he said the Oaks were in!

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

Andy: I think the fans love the idea of breathing new life into an old classic country hit. It sounds familiar and they love it.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

Chad: It varies from song to song, but I would say most of the time a lyric idea comes into play first.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

Andy: We co-produce a lot of projects with Tre Corely.

Q) With “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight” out now, is this a prelude to a full album or EP?

Chad: Most definitely an EP is on its way coming this fall.

Q) Maybe you’ve even given consideration to a full album or classic songs?

Dennijo: We have not, but it sounds like a great idea!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

Andy: Old theaters. The acoustics make it feel more intimate.

Q) Which song(s) are still your favorites for you to perform live?

Chad: We do an Eagles melody that the crowd loves and it is a blast to perform.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

Andy: Alabama or Chris Stapleton.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

Andy: We love Chris Stapleton – such a rich and original sound.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

Dennijo: We sincerely appreciate your support and engagement with our music. Our success would not be possible without you.
