Frequency – Bleed Over

“Frequency” episode Bleed Over shares the traumatic experience of a little girl in 1996 witnessing the kidnapping of her mother by the Nightingale Killer. With Julie’s (Devin Kelley) abduction date coming closer and closer every single day Frank (Riley Smith) is dead set on trying to catch him before that can happen. Part of that plan includes seeking to get information out of a little girl with a protective dad.

Eva Selinas (Jessica Camacho) is their next target when it comes to tracking down the Nightingale Killer. Eva escaped the clutches of the Nightingale on July 9th, 1996 with no sign of her mother. It is now November 6th, 1996 and Frank is looking for some answers. The only problem is that the father (Marco) doesn’t want people asking his daughter anything anymore. They’re trying to get past it and that’s a hard thing to do when it’s so fresh on your mind.

Frank, of course, can understand first hand where Marco is coming from. He has a little daughter of his own and can see where he wouldn’t be comfortable with strangers questioning her all the time as well. So, he goes to future Raimy (Peyton List) for help, trying to dig up as much as he can on future Eva to help him out on the case during his time. This leads to some comedic banter between future Raimy and past Frank as he mentions how fast dial-up is and then questions as to what exactly Tinder is. Don’t worry Frank; you don’t want know.

Raimy makes her way to Eva’s apartment to question her on the book she published, but by the time she gets there Eva’s already been missing for the past three days. Raimy wastes no time to find the detective handling the missing person’s case. However, Raimy quickly becomes embarrassed as she goes to introduce herself and is automatically overcome with flashbacks of her and the detective having one steamy hookup. That’s right, no more Daniel (Daniel Bonjour)! So, there could be many other hookups that Raimy has no recollection of. Detective Kyle (Rob Mayes) doesn’t take it too hard on her for forgetting who he is. Instead, he lets her ride along to question present Marco and her step-mother. Marco insists that something is wrong, but her step-mother reveals that this isn’t the first time Eva has gone missing. It turns out that she runs off quite a bit, which leads the step-mother to believe that it might just be another stunt until they find her purse and keys in her apartment. The mystery of where Eva has disappeared to lasts for about three more minutes before we see Eva walk inside a Red Hook Food Market, telling the owner to call the police because she has just escaped the Nightingale.

Back in 1996, Frank drops over at Marco’s house to see if he and Eva (Niki Garcia) want to join him and Raimy at the park. Marco and Eva spend time at the park and have a pretty decent time for the first time in months. Frank didn’t plan for it to be an interrogation between Raimy and Eva, but Frank feels as if he has an obligation to go back to Marco after Raimy tells him that Eva saw who took her and her mother. Marco, understandably, is heated because it looks like Frank never wanted a play date, but actually wanted information out of Eva instead. Frank tries to correct him, but Marco kicks him out before he can do anything else since Eva isn’t confirming that she said anything.

In 2016, Raimy and Detective Kyle go to the hospital to question grown Eva. Eva describes in detail of how she escaped the Nightingale for the second time. Raimy starts to push and sees just how much she can get out of her by mentioning about the playing at the park together when they were younger. Eva says that she remembers playing, but doesn’t recall seeing the man’s face due to her childhood being a blur. What she does tell Raimy is that she recalls a scar on his hand. Raimy explains that this is vital information and that it’s important to not discuss these details with anyone so they can get ahead of the Nightingale.

What does Eva do instead? She goes to the press and explains every single thing she remembers about the Nightingale on live television. Raimy and Satch (Mekhi Phifer) pull Eva into their office to ask her a few questions after getting some pretty big news from forensics. Eva finally breaks, admitting that she did it all for the attention. So, Raimy reports to Frank that everything that’s been said has been a lie, not believing anything that past Eva said either. Frank, on the other hand, has faith that Eva is telling the truth. Raimy sends an audio description of the Nightingale to Frank, where he had someone in his time draw it up. They then use their little time trick (You know, like they did with the can buried in the backyard) to make sure that Frank has an accurate description of him.

With this report, Frank confronts Eva while she’s swinging on the swings, asking her if she knows the man. Eva finally opened up a little, explaining that she had seen the man multiple times. Frank was on the verge of getting a name before Marco strolled up and forced him to leave, threatening him to get out of there.

Meanwhile, in the present Raimy is interrogating Eva again, finally getting her to crack on how she knew who the killer was. It turns out that she never said anything about how she knew the killer because of where she had seen him before. Her mother was having an affair with their accountant. She would bring Eva and make her play in the playground while she and the accountant did the dirty. Eva saw the Nightingale stalking her mother multiple times, recognizing him from the park.

Frank, back in 1996, goes to the park while Raimy and Julie are there to confront the killer now that they know exactly what he drives. Frank gets about halfway down the road before the killer puts the car and gear and speeds off before anything can happen. Julie begins to question Frank about who was in the truck and why he was chasing him. Julie is skeptical of if it and wonders if Frank was just overreacting. That is until Frank admits that she is in actual danger and that she needs to be extra careful. So, Frank tries to give her his gun, but she refuses.

The episode ends with past Raimy and Frank bonding over wood carving. Present Raimy hits Detective Kyle up for a few drinks and we see the Nightingale standing in front of his flame-engulfed truck.
