Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would describe it as a blend of R&B, jazz, and pop.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Corinne Bailey Rae, Sade and Cleo Sol all have voices that heal my soul!! I made a playlist called WOMAN and anytime one of their songs come up I feel a lift in my mood. Rihanna is another artist who inspires me because she’s an interdisciplinary artist – she sings, dances, acts, has her own clothing/beauty line and is just an overall insane entertainer.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Serenity.”

A) “Serenity” was the last song I wrote for the project. It’s about protecting your own energy and finally not letting anyone or anything else interfere with that.

Q) How do the visuals for the new EP play into the message behind it?

A) I often see songs in color. I love imagining what the world of a song looks and feels like. I’m also very sentimental, so I sometimes pay a discrete homage to something that inspired the song in the visual. Visuals are one of my favorite parts about making music because I can explore bringing the song to life and heighten the way I hope people will feel when listening. Virgo is a project about self-discovery, so for my EP teaser I wanted the visual to have movement, which is where the car comes in. I also wanted to showcase a snippet of each song and incorporate the color that inspired the song when creating it.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) The creative process for writing music comes in various ways. The work I’m most proud of always started in an intimate setting. I’ll usually sit down with a co-writer and create the bones of a song with just a simple piano or guitar. I feel the most inspired by personal experience because I love the release that comes with writing about what you know best.

Q) Your 5-track EP Virgo is out now and Austin Brown, Mark Pelli & Charlie Perry lent a hand on it. How did you come to work with the trio?

A) Virgo was produced entirely by Austin Brown. I reached out to him a couple years ago after seeing his band play, and we started writing frequently together. Through our sessions, I felt like I landed on a sound that felt like me and that I was proud of. I knew these songs would be the right collection to share as my debut project.

Q) What are some themes you explore on the EP?

A) I talk a lot about love, loss and self-discovery. It’s almost like a sonic diary from this point in my life where I had to let go of things that weren’t meant for me in order to lean on and learn more about myself.

Q) “Down the Line” is my personal favorite track. What song holds a special place in your heart?

A) I’m so happy to hear that! “If I Fall” is really special to me because we had so much fun creating it. It was the first time I was able to write about loss from a new perspective. I was no longer gripping, but looking back with acceptance and gratitude.

Q) You are a part of social media. What kind of feedback have you been receiving on Virgo so far?

A) The response has been very positive. I was eager to share this new sound, especially because I had been working on it and talking about new music for a while. I also loved getting to share a small visual for the majority of the songs.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your EP?

A) My goal with music is to connect with as many people as possible through the stories I share. I hope that by sharing these experiences, people can listen and not feel so alone in whatever they may be going through.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I actually have a playlist on Spotify called “Currently” where I share all the songs I have on rotation at the moment. A few of the artists I have on there are James Vickery, Jenevieve and (((O))).

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’m so grateful to those who are listening and following the music as I’ve pivoted sounds. I’m working on a new project, so I can’t wait to share more very soon.
