Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I have always gravitated to beats that are either really melodic or that I can sing really melodic on, that are drum heavy.  I take elements of both Pop and R&B from time to time.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Growing up my parents would always play a lot of old school and funk music, but I always gravitated to listening to Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. So, I had a good mixture of R&B and Pop.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Plans.”

A) I actually started writing “Plans” after I had a disagreement with one of my friends. It was more of a misunderstanding of feelings, so I decided to take those emotions and write a song because I felt very misunderstood. When I first started writing the song to the beat I was listening to, I had a completely different song. It felt very subjective, and negative, so I scrapped it and started writing a song that had more relatable emotions.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think the hook is what really draws in the audience. “I’ve been making plans with you,” something about that really sticks. Everyone has had a situation where they have so much going on in their world that they just wanna escape with someone, even though it doesn’t always happen the thought is still comforting.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I think the video really captures the essences of being free, like if you were to take a day off to clear your mind by yourself or in the presence of someone you care about.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Definitely! I have never written without having music first because I feel like the music pulls certain melodies out of me. I try to just go with what feels right with the music. Usually, I’ll sing a line and one word will fit perfectly and I will start building off that. Once I get that section down, I determine whether it is a verse, pre-hook, hook, etc., and then I will do the same process again until I piece the hole song together.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I honestly would like to be more hands on when it comes to building the actual music, but I have yet to find a producer to work hand and hand with. However, the mixing process is something that I value being a part of because I love to see the vision I had for a song come to life.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Geron performance?

A) My performances are going to be very dynamic being that I have always been a student of the Arts. There will be moments where I am jumping around on the stage and other moments where I may just sit on a stool and serenade them. Either way, I want my fans to feel like I invited them into my creative space.

Q) What songs off your Tainted EP are you looking forward to performing live?

A) Although it is hard to choose, the last song on my EP called “Don’t Need You” is one that I am looking forward to just because it does have elements of hip hop in it and it is a little edgier than people are probably used to hearing from me.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new EP as a whole?

A) I hope people get a better idea of what they can expect from me in the future and also how versatile I can be. It has taken some time for me to find my sound, so I am really proud of these songs.

Q) How do you plan to celebrate when the EP is released?

A) I am planning on having a release party for the EP and invite a lot of my friends and fans that have supported me thus far.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) 2019 is going to be the year that I start to do a lot more performances since I will have a solid project behind me. Recently, I’ve been performing in smaller more intimate settings, but I have had tons of dreams where I am performing on a huge stage in front of thousands of people. That is the moment I am waiting for because that will be me conquering all my fears.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I think I would go with Drake just because there’s a lot of versatility that can happen there. I’ve heard that my music is “easy listening” and Drake makes a lot of “riding music” so I think those go together hand and hand.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I love listening to very melodic music so it’s a toss-up between Jhene Aiko’s Souled Out album and H.E.R.’s first album. I do a lot of creating at night, but on nights when I am just relaxing, I like to kick back and listen to their music.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Social media is the best way for your fans to know where you are, what you are doing and what you have going on. It invites your fans into your personal space and your creative process and allows them to be a part of your journey. I love hearing feedback from my fans it really helps keep me going.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I honestly just want to say thank you. This has been such an emotional journey for me, but I have learned so much about myself through this process. I have always just wanted to be open and share my feelings with the world and music is my way of doing so.
