As Pete (Richie Moriarity) walks into the room we see Sam (Rose McIver), Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), Trevor (Asher Grodman), and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) are watching another cheesy Christmas romance movie. While Christmas is a huge holiday for Sam, Thorfinn (Devan Long) enters the room and starts to talk about his dislike for the holiday because it mocks his culture. As Flower talks about the cultural appropriation of it all, Sam tries to block out the ghosts and focus on her favorite season.

With the Christmas season in full swing, Sam is excited to be hosting Jay’s sister Bela (Punam Patel) for the holiday season. Unfortunately for Trevor, Bela brings a surprise with her – her best friend Eric (Andrew Leeds), who low-key pines for her. Despite Bela’s inclination towards “bad boy” types, Sam and Jay genuinely think that Eric is a great guy and decide to try and turn this trip into some sort of Hallmark romance.

In another part of Woodstone we find Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) Sasappis (Román Zaragoza), Pete and Flower rehearsing to surprise Sam with music for Christmas. Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) walks in the room and when his relationship with Nigel (John Hartman) comes up in conversation it is revealed that Isaac and Nigel have not progressed their relationship any further than hanging out and conversation. When questioned Isaac is scared to progress the relationship just yet.

Even though Trevor wants Bela to be happy, seeing Eric upsets him and he shares with Sasappis that he wishes he could be with her. Remembering how Hetty inhabited Jay’s body, Sasappis suggests that Trevor finds a way to inhabit Eric’s body to be with Bela physically. Liking this idea, Sasappis and Trevor begin to hatch a plan to put that idea into play. This starts to throw a wrench into Sam and Jay’s plans to bring Bela and Eric closer together. As Sam exits the kitchen thinking that having Bela and Eric work on making cookies together will spark something, Trevor walks in with Sasappis and uses his ghost skills to type a message to Bela to see if she is up for Trevor inhabiting Eric’s body. Just as quickly as Bela reads the message, she sends confirmation back to Trevor that she is on board with the idea…unbeknownst to Eric as he is eager to complete their gingerbread creation.

Sam is hopeful for her plan as she joins Jay, Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) and Thorfinn in front of the television. Jay does not believe Sam’s next plan to have the them go ice-skating will work and instead shows Sam a video of a lumberjack chopping wood, a video that Bela sent to the family. When Sam questions why she has not received this video, Jay explains it is more immediate family. Thorfinn is quick to try and curb Sam’s holiday spirit by leaning into this revelation while Hetty wants more of the lumberjack videos.

While Thorfinn admonishes Jay for his tree decorating skills, Bela wants to put Trevor’s plan in action and goes to ask Jay about his experience of being inhabited by Hetty. Thinking that Bela is being caring, Jay explains the whole process and Bela uses this to her advantage. Later, Bela uses this information to sit Eric down and ask his permission for Trevor to inhabit his body. Wanting Bela’s happiness, Eric agrees to go through with it.

Pete decides to talk to Isaac about his reluctance to kiss Nigel. Even though Isaac locked lips many times with his former wife Beatrice, Pete points out that Nigel means a little more to Isaac. Hoping that he does not get in his own way, Pete believes Isaac should go for it. Unfortunately, at the end of one of their get-togethers, Isaac and Nigel end up under the mistletoe. While Isaac initially agrees that they should kiss, he ends up face-palming Nigel and finds he cannot do it. Thinking that their relationship has run its course, Nigel decides to leave and head back to his home.

Hoping to spring the plan into action, Bela says goodnight to Sam and Jay in hopes that they are going to bed. Convinced they are going to bed, Bela eagerly exits the room while Sam and Jay think that Bela is finally coming around on Eric. As Eric is preparing to get electrocuted, Sam enters the room to put milk and cookies out for Santa. Jay also enters quickly after and Bela’s plan for Trevor is revealed….upsetting Jay and having him lash out at Bela for her behavior. Just as upset by Jay’s inability to let Bela live her life, she bails on the plan and angrily leaves the room with Trevor in tow after her.

The next morning is Christmas and Sam is all ready to celebrate. She walks in to place more gifts under the tree as Thorfinn is looking at the tree. Noticing the open wiring, Thorfinn asks about it and Sam decides to cover it back up. But as she goes to put the light back up, Sam gets electrocuated and her perfect Christmas is altered when Thorfinn ends up in her body. As Sam/Thorfinn get up from the ground, Alberta, Sasappis, Pete, and Flower come to sing Sam “Silent Night” and are quickly rebuffed without understanding that Thorfinn now inhabits Sam’s body.

Utilizing Sam’s body to raid the fridge, Thorfinn grabs a stick of butter from the fridge and runs into Sasappis. Sam regains temporary control of her body and explains to Sasappis how Thorfinn ended up in her body. Sasappis tries to appeal to Sam about allowing Thorfinn to have some time in her body as a gift. Sam refuses so Sasappis finds a way to bring back Thorfinn and they go to see Hetty, who gives Thorfinn the tools to keep Sam locked away while he enjoys time in her body. In turn, Thorfinn must help Hetty so she can watch the lumberjack videos.

Rattled by his interaction with Nigel the night before, Isaac has a dream about Beatrice (Hillary Anne Matthews) learning of his sexuality. Confused by her wording, Ben Franklin (Neil Crone) then enters the room and agrees with Beatrice. Once he wakes up, Isaac takes this as a sign that he needs to address this issue.

Bela finds Jay putting together the Christmas meal and tells Jay that Eric has left Woodstone to catch the next train home. Sam/Thorfinn enters the kitchen and Sasappis coaches Thorfinn on how to talk as to not bring attention to his possession of Sam. Bela leaves the room and Jay asks Sam/Thorfinn whether he was too harsh on Bela. Sasappis, Trevor, and Alberta coach Thorfinn on talking to Jay and convincing him to bring Eric back. Thorfinn succeeds and Jay heads out to the train station to get Eric….and cod.

With Thorfinn utilizing his ghost powers within Sam’s body, Pete approaches Sam/Thorfinn to see the phenomenon for himself. As Thorfinn bites into a Christmas cookie and finds it delicious, Pete explains the importance of Christmas to Thorfinn and what it means to him. Thorfinn listens, eagerly eating the Christmas cookie and starting to understand how Christmas is a holiday that is best spent with those they care about.

Jay catches up with Eric at the train station and tries to appeal to him to stay. While Eric is hesitant, Jay decides that Bela needs to be happy. Getting Eric to agree to make Bela happy, both of them return to Woodstone to give Bela her dream of being with Trevor.

As Flower, Pete, and Alberta discuss how Thorfinn’s ruse of being in Sam’s body will be found out, Isaac comes in to tell his friends about his dream. The ghosts see that Isaac holds guilt over Beatrice and advise that he needs to let go. Isaac is still hesitant.

Sam/Thorfinn and Sasappis start to add items to Sam and Jay’s Alexa when Bela walks in. Trying to appeal to Sam’s Christmas side, Bela notices the gifts for the ghosts under the tree. Sam/Thorfinn asks to open Thor’s gift and Bela presents them with a red box. Opening the gift, Thorfinn is touched by the ship in a bottle. The gratitude is shortly lived as Jay and Eric return from the train station and Eric is ready to give Bela her wish. But instead of Eric and Trevor successfully coming together, Eric gets electrocuted and ends up dying.

As ghost Eric watches Bela regret not giving him a chance, Thorfinn intervenes and resurrects him. Bela helps Eric back up to his room and Thorfinn is forced to admit to Jay that he has inhabited Sam’s body. Sam takes the opportunity to overpower Thorfinn and gets Jay to drive through the barrier to remove Thorfinn.

Later that night, Hetty laments at the end of the lumberjack videos while Flower asks Isaac about his handkerchief. He explains how Beatrice embroidered a cricket on it, a nickname that she gave him. Sasappis shares a story of Isaac on his death bed and seeing Beatrice arrive with Isaac’s uniform. Isaac realizes that on his deathbed, Beatrice still cared about him greatly and did not view him unfavorably.

The day after Christmas, Sam wakes up in her own body. While Jay believes that Sam would be bummed about missing Christmas, Sam starts to hear singing coming from downstairs. The ghosts have gathered to sing and make up for her lost Christmas, Thorfinn even saying how important it is to spend that time with people you care about. Taking in Thorfinn’s words, Isaac decides to leave Woodstone and head to Nigel’s cabin….where they share their first kiss. Meanwhile, Sam and Jay have Christmas a day late and notice that Eric and Bela have come together just like in the movies. Admiring their work, Thorfinn then takes the opportunity to suggest to Sam that she lets him take over her body every year as a gift…which is met with a swift “no.”

Later that day, Hetty mopes about the loss of her lumberjack videos and pent-up sexual frustration. Trevor enters the room and is still flustered over his own sexual frustration after not sealing the deal with Bela. Both keyed up, Hetty and Trevor lament over their losses and end up releasing that frustration in a steamy kiss.
