Q) How would you describe your Girl Pow-R sound?

Emma: I would describe our sound as Pop, similar to Ariana Grande, Pink and BTS. Our music is very upbeat and groovy.

Q) As Girl Pow-R, who are some of your musical influences?

Emma: Some of our musical influences are groups like Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child and Little Mix because they are inspirational and fun!

Q) Talk about the story behind your song “This Is Us.”

Cindy: “This Is Us” is a song about our social causes and who we are. Although we are a girl band, we each have social causes that we promote and work on to make a difference for various issues. “This is Us” has a music video released where each girl raises awareness about their social cause; mine being the Medlife Movement which empowers the poor in their fight for equal access to healthcare, education and a safe home.

Q) You’ve got a supercharged remix of it out now. In what ways is it different than the original?

Cindy: The remix versions of our original songs added more high hats to the production, and we made them more upbeat. This makes our music even more irresistible to dance to!

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

Emma: I think fans can connect to the fact that this song is about helping others and making the world a better place. Many people volunteer or have jobs that involve helping others, so they can relate.

Q) In fact, your whole This Is Us album has been remixed. What inspired the alteration?

Carina: We wanted to give those who support us something to listen to that’s modern and upbeat, while we work on our upcoming projects. I think it’s cool for them to hear all of these songs in a brand-new style.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

Emma: We start with music that is created with us by our producer: Jovan Jovanov at Global Music Entertainment. Then, we brainstorm ideas of what we want to write about. We all share our ideas and form the song and write the lyrics!

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

Carina: Our producer Jovan is the one behind the sound board, but we always provide him with our own feedback and ideas. It is a process we are heavily involved in and we always listen to all final versions of the songs before they are released, to perfect them!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

Emma: Some of my favorite places to perform are Yonge-Dundas Square and Nathan Phillips Square because there are so many people in downtown Toronto and the stage is so big.

Cindy: I love performing at holiday parades as there’s always so many different groups, big crowds and lots of holiday spirit!

Carina: One of my favorite places to perform is Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. This is where we had our first performance in 2017! I also enjoy performing in the US because that’s where we had our first large tour, as we were performers on the 2019 Boys of Summer Tour.

Q) Since you all also dance and play musical instruments, what can fans expect from a live Girl Pow-R performance?

Cindy: They can expect to hear our original songs, as well as cover songs that each spread a positive message! With this, each song will either be sung with an instrument such as guitars and keyboard or will showcase our dance moves!

Q) Is there a new album or EP in the works at the moment?

Carina: We have a new album on the way, and we can’t wait to share it. We have been working really hard and the vibe of this album is more along the lines of a pop and R&B fusion.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

Emma: I would most like to collaborate with Alessia Cara because she also writes inspirational music, and she just seems like such a nice person to work with.

Cindy: Definitely The Weeknd for this next album, as his voice would suit many of the songs!

Carina: I would love to collaborate with Ariana Grande or The Weeknd. I feel they both would actually fit quite well with the style of our upcoming songs.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

Emma: I am currently listening to Billie Eilish’s album called Happier Than Ever. I love this album because it is so calming and emotional.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

Emma: Social media is very important for us to connect with our fans because we can update them on our new music and share all of our adventures. It is so important for us to be able to connect with our fans and let them know that they can reach out to us at any time.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

Emma: Thank you so much for supporting us, it means so much. Stay tuned for new music and new content!

Cindy: Thank you so much for supporting our journey so far, this is only the beginning! We have some amazing songs coming your way, as well as awesome videos we have filmed! Stay tuned!!

Carina: I would like to say thank you so much for all of the love and support. Knowing that so many people want to see us succeed is what keeps us going, and we can’t wait for you all to see what we have in store this year.
