The episode opens with Cassie (Catherine Bell), Nick (Rhys Matthew Bond) and Grace (Bailee Madison) discussing about pancakes and a box of toys that Grace is planning to donate. Nick makes sure that none of his action figures is in it while the girl makes fun of him saying that they are just dolls. Right that moment Sam (James Denton) walks in holding the mail and Grace gets excited since she is expecting to hear back from the colleges to which she has applied. Sam hands a letter to Nick and another one to the girl. The boy opens the letter in excitement to find out that he just got accepted in the college he wanted to attend. Grace looks hesitant and when Nick asks her to open it, she excuses herself saying that she is running late for her internship and walks out of the room. After leaving the place she opens the letter and finds out that she has been rejected.

As a way to celebrate her reinstatement Martha (Catherine Disher) decides to ask for an artist named Kate (Leah Doz) to paint her. The Mayor’s discontent about the painting is evident and asks the other woman to present her another draft.

Back at the Grey House Cassie meets with Paige (Rachel Bles) and Chelsea (Rosie Simon), a couple of friends that are attempting to have a getaway except that one of them doesn’t seem to be so open for the adventure. When Cassie asks them about their story Chelsea confesses that she is getting married and wanted to spend some time with her friend before she ties the knot. However,  the woman seems to be very attached to her phone.

Sam is touring around the hospital with his new residents. They get into one of the rooms and meet with Adam (Scott Cavalheiro) who is keeping company with Mr. Holmberg (Nigel Hamer) who was involved in a fender bender earlier in the day. The man alleges that he is completely fine until one of the residents, Dr. Josh Harkins (Jonathan Malen), realizes that the man has been holding his left arm the whole time. He offers his thoughts and Sam orders the resident to run some tests on the patient. Mr. Holmberg tries to excuse himself saying that he wants to leave the hospital as soon as possible since his daughter’s tennis camp is just around the corner and he wants to be there for her, but Dr. Harkins doesn’t seem to care at all. Unfortunately for him, this gesture does not go unnoticed by Adam.

Martha shows up at Cassie’s store asking for her advice about her painting. The woman recommends her not to overload the artist and let her do her job properly. She offers her some tea that the mayor seems to be delighted about.

Martha meets with Patrick (Thom Marriott) and Grace and confesses that unlike the ex-mayor Abigail (Sarah Power) she won’t need to have two interns. So, she asks them to write a dissertation about her family and the one who does it best will get to stay as her intern.

George (Peter MacNeill) asks Nick about his acceptance letter and the guy confesses that he just has started to feel the pressure since he knows that most of the students are already more experienced than him. He catches on the album that George is holding in his hands and the man lets him know about a truck he had when he was in high school which he still keeps. The boy shows his interest about it and George tells him that if he gets it to run he will sell it to him.

Vincent (Gianpaolo Venuta) has finally found a food truck for Stephanie (Kylee Evans) and although the woman seems to be pretty happy about it she cannot help but think she is taking advantage of him. So, Vincent brings a proposal to her table and tells her that he wants to be his business partner but the woman does not seem to be so convinced about it.

Back at the hospital Adam talks with Sam about Dr. Harkins recent attitude and asks him to work on the young doctor’s compassion towards his patients. Donovan (Marc Bendavid) shows up at Abi’s flower shop and asks her to sell him a bouquet since he has a date later on. Abi seems to be surprised by the confession but tries to conceal it and continues with her work. When the bouquet is done Donovan asks her if she likes the flowers. She says that she does and he seems to be relieved by the answer since the flowers are for her and he asks her on a date.

Paige and Chelsea return from their walk through the Foster’s Wood that was recommended by Cassie and seem happy to have reconnected; however, as soon as they enter the shop. Chelsea goes back to her phone when she gets some signal. Suddenly, she realizes that her phone battery is about to die so she asks Cassie for her assistance to charge it; Cassie takes her to another side of the shop. While showing her where she can connect it Chelsea sees a beautiful necklace that she seems to be immediately attracted to. When asking about it Cassie explains that is a necklace that represents friendship, so Chelsea decides to buy it for Paige. The other girl asks if there is a chance that Cassie has another one and she decides to buy both for the two of them.

Patrick and Grace are working on their dissertation for Martha. The boy notices that the girl has been different the whole day, so he asks her about it. She just pretends and decides not to tell him anything.

Kate returns to Martha’s office with another draft of her paint, but the mayor is not capable of saying a word. The artist says that maybe is not meant for her to be in charge of painting her after all. Cassie and Stephanie talk after they wrap their yoga class on how the bistro owner feels about Vincent wanting to be his business partner. On the other side of the room, Chelsea and Paige are talking when Chelsea asks for a minute to take a video call with her fiancée. Paige is left there looking disappointed when another girl named Harper (Chandler Loryn) recognizes her as the host of “Sports Page Today” and tells her that she is a journalism student and decides to invite her for a drink to what Paige agrees.

Patrick shows up with a couple of coffee cups and Grace believes that he is trying to get Martha’s sympathy, but he confesses that the coffee is actually or her. The girl apologizes for her recent behavior and ends up sharing that she was rejected by the first college she applied to and Patrick tells her that they don’t know what they are missing.

Abi pays a visit to Cassie to tell her about Donovan’s invitation for lunch and Cassie encourages her to try and bring her guard down. Abi seems to be confused, so, her friend gives her some tea to help her clarify the situation. Dr. Harkins talks to Mr. Holmberg to tell him about his results. He informs the man that he needs to spend more time in the hospital and Mr. Holmberg doesn’t seem to be so happy with it but, once again, the resident doesn’t seem to care. Sam has been watching the whole exchange and asks the young doctor for a minute to talk. When they are on their own Sam confesses that he didn’t like the way he spoke to Mr. Holmberg and that he needs to show more compassion, but the young man replies that compassion is not something they teach them in med books.

Paige returns to the Grey House and finds Chelsea waiting for her at the stairs all mad about her for bailing on her. The two of them fight and decide to take a different direction.

In the meantime, Nick tries to fix George truck but doesn’t seem to have any luck. Grace encourages him to keep working, but he seems to be really annoyed. The girl offers a few suggestions and he manage sto find a handbook for the truck.

Sam talks to Cassie about his new resident situation and tells her that he doesn’t know how to teach him what compassion is, and the woman suggests that the only way is to show them how much he cares. Stephanie meets with Vincent and is surprised when she sees that he has painted the food truck. He asks her if she has thought about his offer and she confesses her fears, but he manages to convince her that everything will be alright between them.

Donovan and Abi are having a great time at the park where the woman meets the man’s dog. He confesses that she is actually the first woman he has introduced the dog to and tells her how the dog was abandoned when it was a puppy and they rescued each other. A little after, they are enjoying some lunch together and Abi is delighted by the dish so Donovan admits that he was the one who cooked it.

Nick is still having a hard time trying to get George’s truck fixed as he is having no success. George shows up and encourages him to finish the work when the guy expresses his plans on throwing the towel. He tries to follow the handbook he found and George is surprised to see it since he thought it was lost a long ago. Together, they work on it until the truck is working again.

Later that day Donovan shows up at Abi’s shop and thanks her for the awesome day they had. Abi confesses that she is not easy and he replies that he’s up for the challenge. Back at the hospital Sam meets with Adam and the new residents and expresses how important it is to know what they are doing but, most of all, to be compassionate. Once the meeting is over Dr. Harkins goes to Sam and thanks him for the advice.

Abi visits Cassie and asks her what was in the tea that she gave her since she suddenly found herself being overly pleasant in front of Donovan. Cassie denies that she has something to do with it, but is happy to see her friend is giving herself a chance.

The next day Paige meets with Cassie and tells her that she will do an early check out. Cassie tells her that sometimes friends evolve but that does not mean they have to be apart. Suddenly, Paige sees Grace’s old walkie talkie and tells her that she and Chelsea used to have a couple of those when they were kids, and they would talk until the battery died. They used to call each other as “rainbow” and “pinky.” Cassie leaves the scene and then a voice can be heard coming from the walkie talkie. It turns out that Chelsea is at the other side apologizing to Paige for her recent behavior and Paige does the same. Chelsea comes down the stairs and they hug each other with the promise they will always be together regardless the time or situation.

Patrick and Grace present a dissertation they wrote together and they’re surprised when Martha confesses that they did it just right. It seems her idea was to keep them both but wanted to make sure they could work together as a team.

Kate returns to Martha’s house saying that when she presented her a second draft of the painting and she said nothing that her silence actually spoke volumes so she painted again. When she shows the painting to Martha, she is amazed by Kate’s work.

Martha invites Cassie to see her painting and asks her how it is that she always knows exactly what others need. Cassie remains in complete silence.

Grace returns home after a long day at the office and lays her head on her mother’s lap. Suddenly, she looks at the table right on the magazines pile and can see a letter there. Apparently, the paper was mixed with the magazines and they missed it. So, with a mix of hesitation and fear, the girl opens the letter only to find out that she has been accepted at her mother’s alma mater.
