Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I’m def pop but definitely soulful pop with a bit of RnB.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Vocally I was inspired by Whitney, Beyoncé and Tina Arena, but I love Rag N Bone Man, John Legend, Emeli Sande and Sam Smith.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Marching On.”

A) It’s about how far the queer community has come, how much we still have to fight for and the shoulders we stand on to be where we are today. It’s for the underdogs, the outcasts and the minorities!

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans have connected to?

A) I think the message is powerful, poignant and important and I think it’s a hooky catchy song.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) It’s all walks of life coming together, taking a stand. We are a stronger united.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I normally start with the message I want to portray or the theme and then I start mumbling melodies and replace that with lyrics (hopefully [laughs]).

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) With most of my music I am pretty hands on. I flew to Sydney on this track to work on the production with Cressbrook. I like to collaborate but sometimes I have a pretty clear vision.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) Absolutely I’m in the midst of creating my new album of originals as we speak.

Q) You’ve performed at Sydney World Pride, Chillout Festival and went on tour with Maxine Jones of En Vogue. Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love performing festival crowds as they are always up for a good time and I feel like the connection is strong and I love being able to feed off the energy. I love touring Australia a lot and seeing all kinds of places I’ve never been, but I’m also keen to do more overseas touring. I am also in Darwin for the very first time in June to perform at Darwin Pride, which I’m so excited about!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Emeli Sande – I love her voice and writing.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m loving Joan & The Giants – Perth band – amazing voice the lead singer Grace has and they write from such a special place and I really connect with their music

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I’m grateful as an independent artist to have direct access to my fans and for them to hear my music. I do sometimes wish everything was simpler, but it does def have its benefits and allows more people to power to be independent and get their own music out there. I always love chatting to new people.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thanks for being on the journey and ride and I appreciate it so very much. The best is yet to come I promise!
