Head Fake’s Michael Baker Is Busy Captivating His Fans With His Latest Solo Project, “Hasten Mercy.”

Head Fake is an intriguing anonymous trio of veteran 1980s musicians recapturing the ethos of the new wave with today’s tools, each with their own distinct approach to music creation. The elusive trio has always exuded a sense of mystery, which is reflected in their releases. The same can be said for Michael Baker’s (Head Fake member) latest solo project, “Hasten Mercy.” Released two months ago under Global Heist Recordings/Neurodisc Records, it is a beautiful piece of art with a powerful message.

“Hasten Mercy” is more than just an EP; it’s a story with which Baker’s audience can easily relate with. It is written and recorded in a spurt of artistic endeavors, showcasing the musical influences that sculpted Michael’s lyric-driven melodies. The EP begins with the perky and upbeat track “Star You Are,” which features synths reminiscent of early PS1-era video game soundtracks. The next track, “These Things,” features a man’s story and the person he supports. This one, however, reflects explicitly how the man’s doubts and fears mount. The EP wraps up with a beautiful song titled “I Break Everything,” a ballad about how the character abandons their loved one for fear of hurting them in a moment of self-doubt and hatred.
