How I Met Your Father – Daddy

Sophie (Hilary Duff) is showing Val (Francia Raísa) different outfits for her weekend getaway with Robert (John Corbett) and also asks her to help her find the right ones to wear. Val tells her that she might just show up naked. Sophie confesses how happy she is with Robert  (John Corbett) and how so uncomplicated her relationship is. Sophie takes the opportunity to ask her about her younger fiancée Swish (Michael Cimino), but Val says she is not worried about him as she believes that he must be planning a way to turn her down gently but then we see how he is actually calling his mother to ask for his grandma’s engagement ring. Then, we see future Sophie (Kim Cattrall) saying that everything they believed right then was just so wrong.

Later that day at Pemberton’s we see an enthusiastic Charlie (Tom Ainsley) as he announces to Jesse (Christopher Lowell), Val and Ellen (Tien Tran) that “Lost & Found” box day has finally arrived and this time he has planned to use a different method to choose the order in which they will pick up an item from the box. Jesse gets picked up first and he gets a watch that has a beautiful dedication from a grandfather to his grandson. The next one to go is Val who finds a guide to make a home-made haircut and that Jesse recognizes it as his book. He gets immediately nervous and awkward about the book and tries to get it back attempting to trade his watch for the book but Val refuses. She notices that he is acting differently so she knows that there must be something special about it. Therefore, she definitely will not return it but then Jesse challenges her for a duel to win it back.

While on his way to visit Hannah (Ashley Reyes), it seems Sid (Suraj Sharma) experiences a very particular situation as he practically saves a woman named Taylor (Caitlin Thompson) standing two seats away from an uncomfortable situation started by a young guy that refers to himself as Lil’ Toasty (Ryan Goldsher). The woman thanks him for helping her and then they share a talk about the reason why they are both heading to LA. Sid is going to visit his wife and Taylor is going to visit her boyfriend.

Robert and Sophie are having a great time together. He has served some food and wine for them and invites her to choose a record and listen to some music with as they sit in the couch covered with a blanket. Sophie sees a Jane’s Addiction vinyl and the man tells her how he attended the first concert they offered at Lollapalooza. This takes Sophie to a time when she was little and her mother (Paget Brewster) was telling her about the moment she met her father and the story is exactly the same as the one Robert is telling her. This leads her to believe that he might be her father.  From this time on Sophie’s behavior towards Robert turns a little awkward and tries to dig more about that time he was at Lollapalooza.

Back at Pemberton’s we see that Charlie and Ellen had organized a “Lost & Found Day: Challenge Edition” and they explain that Jesse and Val are the contestants that need to assemble outfits taken only out of the lost and found box in order to get a book as a prize. Jesse comes out first wearing a leather black coat, a shirt and short that do not match at all while Valentina is looking fabulous in a dress that suits her perfectly. Jesse complains that her outfit looks great on her and we learn that this one was a gift she received a while ago from someone she didn’t know and decided to send it to the box. Charlie and Ellen vote her a ten and give her the prize. She takes the book and a note falls from it. Val picks it and Jesse does not know what to say.

In the meantime, Sid and Taylor discuss about long distance relationships, time zones and how they are not allowed to feel very close to their partners. Taylor is happy to had found someone she can share the same experience with. Robert shows Sophie different pictures of him until she rushes him into finding the one at Lollapalooza. She is completely surprised to see that he is there with his arm around her mother’s shoulders and another guy next to them. She gets shocked by it and asks him to go get her a drink which he does; Sophie sends the picture to her mother asking her if the man on it is her dad. She then escapes by the window and ends up crashing her car against a luxurious van. A man dressed in a suit comes out of it and it is revealed that is none other than Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) who believes that Sophie crashed against him as a way to get revenge on him for having played her in the past. He also reveals he is going under a recovery treatment that includes electro shock therapy that is activated if he mentions any inappropriate words to other women. Sophie confesses that they have never met and the reason why she crashed against him was because she is a new driver trying to escape form the fact that she might be dating her father. Barney, curious as he is, asks her if she tells her about her twisted story that he will take care of the charges for the car.

Back to the bar Jesse takes Val to Sid’s office to confront her about the note. It is revealed he had written a song for Sophie on the back of a store ticket and he is ashamed by it. Val wants to know if he is willing to make a move, but he says that now that Sophie is so happy with Robert he does not think it would be a good idea. Plus, the first time ended up in a complete disaster. Val agrees on keeping his secret and returning the book, but when he leaves she takes the note and stares at it as planning something. Back to Sophie and Barney, they are now sitting at a bus stop where he tells her that he grew up without a father but after his friend lost his that he decided to look for him which had turned out into a great experience. Now, he has a daughter and she has changed his entire mindset. Right in the middle of the conversation Sophie gets a text from her mother saying that the man in the picture is not her father but she knows him. Barney decides to cover the debt as he promised.

Sid arrives to Hanna’s apartment and gets a notification that Taylor has started to follow him on Instagram and he smiles at it. Hannah opens the door happily saying that she has gotten some food for him but the look in Sid’s eyes is not exactly of joy. Robert finds Sophie and she tells him the truth about why she escaped like that. She shows him the picture and says the woman is her mother. He recalls that even though he did not sleep with her, they still had an encounter of other kind. Although, they think they can get past this, it turns out the opposite so they end it. Sophie enters the bar where the rest of the gang is having fun and she confesses that she broke up with Robert and has decided to find her dad. Jesse tells her that they’ll support her with it and then she suggests to go find something to eat. Val stays a little behind, takes Jesse’s song and puts it in the lost and found box.
