How to Get Away With Murder – Don’t Go Dark on Me

ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder” moved so quickly last week that it was hard to keep up with excitement. As the investigation into Miller’s murder intensifies, Bonnie and Nate formulate their alibis while Annalise devises a plan to ensure Gabriel never learns the truth about his father.

We open with a montage of the Keating Five reeling from the Gabriel news. Connor (Jack Falahee) goes to Asher’s (Matt McGorry) to check and see if Gabe (Rome Flynn) has been poking around. Michaela (Aja Naomi King) tells Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) that he’s the only hopeful one of the group left so he shouldn’t “go dark” on them. And Laurel (Karla Souza) hides the bloody blanket that baby Christoph was wrapped in when Bonnie had to do what she had to do.

We then flash to Frank (Charlie Weber) arguing with Nate (Billy Brown) and Bonnie (Liza Weil) about coming clean to Annalise (Viola Davis)  about the Miller situation. Nate and Bonnie want to wait and Frank tells them that as soon as the news breaks that one of them HAS to tell her the truth about what happened and they agree. They don’t want to tell her now because of the Gabriel situation and because she has her hands full with Eve (Famke Jessen). Frank gets summoned to a meeting with Annalise and Eve to discuss Gabriel and what all he knows.

When he arrives he tells them that he’s tired. He found what he could about Gabe and his mother Vivian, but that information on Vivian is very hard to locate as she seems to be pretty recluse. It’s at that point that Eve outsources with a PI she knows. When she leaves at the end of this episode it’s so sad to see her go, but she has a new girlfriend who happens to be pregnant now to attend to.

The end of Annalise’s conversation with Eve ends with Emmett (Timothy Hutton) showing up at Annalise’s apartment asking for her help with his misconduct case. He is surprised that Annalise is with a woman and confused on what is the real reason Eve would be there. He takes the question to Tegan (Amirah’s Vann) who insist that maybe Annalise is trying to recruit Eve to work for C&G. It isn’t until later in the episode when Michaela spills the beans that Tegan even knows the truth behind that relationship.

The Keating Five are all concerned that Gabriel is out to get them and looking into Sam’s death. And after he confronts them about lying to them, they get even more convinced that Gabe is gonna try to keep digging and perhaps he will. They are especially convinced towards the end of the episode when Annalise blackmails him in a way by finding a case his mother got involved in that involves drugs.

The investigation into Miller finally begins and, of course, the FBI has to get involved due to the fact that this is the third DA that has succumbed to a grim fate in the past two years or so. They immediately know something is fishy and call everyone in the office for questioning. Bonnie and Nate have to come up with alibis and they also need to bring Asher in on the plan seeing as how he actually saw Nate and Miller outside the wedding. They tell him what happened and like Bonnie he has his doubts about whether or not that’s the truth. But it’s too late to fight it now and after everything that Nate has done for him and the group he chooses to go along with the plan of lying once again to the authorities.

Bonnie feigned surprise when he FBI questions her and manages to perhaps convince them on her story that she broke up with Miller and that he called her sometime after the wedding to apologize but she didn’t want to hear it. She tries to convince them that this must be a mistake because Miller isn’t like this and it’s a strange angle, but it might work. The other thing with Bonnie is that she is legitimately grieving Miller and the fact that she had to finish him off but she’s holding out hope that he’s a bad guy and it isn’t until Asher starts doubting it too that she decides to something to confirm it for herself. So, she calls in a favor from a coworker and gets the wire tap files from the warden and Miller to see if her boss/beau truly is the one who called the shot to get Nate Sr. killed. From what she hears, Nate and Bonnie may have killed an innocent man.

Nate, on the other hand, has to wreck his legit hand in order to cover up that it was all bruised and roughed up at the wedding so he attacks one of the guards that shot his dad and then planted the idea in the FBI’s mind that perhaps the reason why Miller is missing is linked to his fathers death and that maybe someone was trying to cover up the hit. He later tells Annalise after the news breaks that Miller is missing and he presents her with the idea that perhaps they can pin this all on the governor, seeing as how in the long run it’s probably true that she put Miller up to making the call that killed Nate Sr. So, the next step is to frame the governor, but things might get complicated because they may not be able to trap her or her cohorts. And even if they do then how would they connect her to Miller?

Over in the Keating Five’s world, Gabriel confronts the kids on who he is and why he’s here and he gives them the truth so far about his motives. He tells them everything that Annalise told him and showed him and even gets so worked up to the point that she cries and tells him that sadly Wes was a bad guy and she loved him and she feels terrible for that, which isn’t completely false because she fears what to tell Christoph in the future about his father. Lucky for us Laurel is a great actress because seems to believe it. At the end of the episode we find out that the person Gabriel called for help was in fact… MILLER! So he may have been after them all along. The FBI gives us this information when they call Gabe in for questioning.

And if that isn’t enough trouble for the gang, Asher completely spills the beans on the Nate/Bonnie/Miller situation and drags them into even more drama.
