Q) What are the recent projects you are working on?

A) I am currently halfway through shooting a new Hulu series – This is a role that is very dear to my heart because I get to showcase talents other than just acting. It’s been an incredible journey so far and I can’t wait to share very soon. Once this project finishes, I’ll be making an appearance in a new Netflix show that starts shooting in the summer.

Q) Please tell us how your character Vanessa was originally described to you for In The Dark.

A) When I first got the audition breakdown, back in February 2018, “Vanessa” was described as Jess’s (Brooke Markham) girlfriend who does not get along with Murphy (Perry Mattfeld). Each of them wants to break up the friendship with the other. In the audition I showed her attitude and witty comebacks.

Q) What made you want to be a part of the series?

A) I was ecstatic when I knew Michael Showalter was directing the Pilot and Ben Stiller’s productions company Red Hour Films was involved. I had always wanted to be in a CW series, so this felt like the right time and role for me. When I did the callback for the show, Michael was present and I simply showed confidence and a willingness to play. Something I know was applauded after I booked the part. I remember at the first table read Nicky Weinstock came up to me and asked, “Were you even nervous?!”No, I wasn’t. I felt I had this role in me all along.

Q) Were you familiar with any of your costars before starting to shoot the show?

A) I was not familiar with any of the main cast, which was exciting and intimidating, but we all gelled very quickly once shooting started!

Q) Talk about working with Perry Mattfeld.

A) Watching Perry work was very inspiring for me. She takes her work very seriously and she is not afraid to make bold choices and improvise -all while cracking jokes and showing off her bright smile. I learnt a lot from everyone in the cast. I feel very grateful to have gotten the opportunity to be a part of it.

Q) What have been some of your favorite moments from filming In The Dark?

A) Hanging out with Levi on set was awesome! She plays “Pretzel” on the show. [laughs] I absolutely loved working in the studio. The way the production rebuilt the exact same apartment that Murphy and Jess live in left me in shock. We shot the Pilot in an actual apartment and when it got picked up to go to series they built the replica in the studio, down to every last detail. A great moment from shooting was during Episode 2 “Mommy Issues” that was directed by Brian Dannelly. The scene where Jess and Vanessa say “I love you” for the very first time in the bathroom – it was very late, about 3 in the morning, and it was the last scene of the day. Brian, to get us into our body, asked we join him in some jumping jacks to wake up. We laughed and got ready to rock a very emotional and fun scene that we shot in not too many takes.

Q) You are a part of social media. Have you been enjoying the fan feedback you’ve received to episodes?

A) I have! People really love the show and the relationship between Jess and Vanessa. I’m really proud of this project and to see people responding with the same gusto just warms my heart.

Q) As we approach the remaining episodes of the season, what can you tease is in store for Vanessa?

A) Well, I can tell you she does not like that Jess cheated… Vanessa, as vapid as she may have seemed using all those hashtags, really does love Jess and it was a shock when Jess blurted her infidelity.

Q) What do you think it is about the show “In The Dark” that’s made it a fast fan favorite series?

A) The show has incredible writers. The story has heart, drama, comedy, twist and turns and it’s all perfectly portrayed by a very strong cast. This was even present when we did table reads. People would laugh and cry and gasp and we weren’t even shooting the episode yet. The material really lifted from the page when anyone from the team touched it. I believe the cast and crew poured their heart and soul into it and it shows.
