After the car crash Petra (Yael Grobglas) got in at the end of the previous episode we find out she is okay and just has a broken arm. When she wakes up from the crash she realizes her first thought was the girls and how thankful she is that if anything happened to her they’d have both Rafael (Justin Baldoni) AND Jane (Gina Rodriguez) as a step-mom.

Jane must finish her novel, which she does, three weeks of “in the zone” writing later. Surprising to her though is that the agent she thought was going to love it passed on publishing it. She did love the writing, but wasn’t sure how to market it. This means she has to deal with finding time to spend with the girls, still planning the wedding and now finding someone new to publish the novel.

Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and River (Brooke Shields) are testing out their new pilot with viewers voting up or down while watching it. All in all, the pilot is taken well, but Rogelio and River realize the viewers are really only voting up during the scenes with the younger versions of their characters. They head to the editor to try and shorten frames that might turn the viewers off.

Jane has a great time with the twins, but they use the iPad when she told them they couldn’t. She catches them and they apologize. She tells Petra what happened, making her promise not to say anything, but she still does anyway. This causes the twins to hate Jane, calling her an evil stepmother.

All the agents keep denying Jane’s manuscript, but she has a feeling it is just the assistants getting back to her and that the actual agents aren’t even reading it. She devises a plan (with help from Rogelio of course) of going to the agent’s office and slipping in her manuscript, as she pretends to be a delivery person.

When her delivery goes wrong the girls help her out and cover for her, making her still able to put her manuscript on the agent’s desk. Jane realizes maybe writing isn’t for her as she can barely sell her second book and she is thirty years old. She says it is time to be realistic and means it when she finds out this agent read the book and STILL passed. On the bright side, Mateo (Elias Janssen) also started reading the book, meaning he is now doing better with his learning disability.

Rose (Bridget Regan) now has control of Luisa (Yara Martinez) again. She uses Luisa to go get something from Rafael, but he obviously shuts her down and gets what she wanted from the safe. The plan was really to see the code to the safe in order to get her deceased father’s watch, which had his fingerprint in it. It unlocks a storage room holding loads of money.

As Petra is pulling the plug on her mother’s life (Priscilla Barnes) Rafael and Jane are there to support her. In the midst of it, Jane finds out a big agent wants to represent her! During the time they are finding that out though,Petra’s mother comes out of her comma to her demise.

As Rose’s plan is in motion, phase three has commenced. We see Rose talking to her helpers…who now all have her face.
