Q) Talk about the story behind your new single “Mountains.”

A) I really believe in the power of music and how a song can uplift, inspire and remind us of what is important. Coming out of this pandemic, I felt that songs of hope have never been more needed than now and that is what “Mountains” is for me. The song that reminds us that with faith and love in our hearts we can move mountains. And there are so many mountains we are facing in the world right now, and therefore this song and this message felt more important than ever.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that listeners relate to?

A) I think it’s the fact that we all encounter so many different types of mountains. We’ve all gone through it in different ways these last couple of years and I think we are all ready, no matter where we are in the world, to overcome these challenges that we’ve been faced with.

Q) The song was written by you and Daniel James. How did the two of you come together to work on it?

A) I was in Nashville and our mutual friend Chris York came up with the idea for a co-writing session between Daniel and me. We just connected right away, and “Mountains” was one of the first songs we wrote together.

Q) What makes “Mountains” the perfect follow up to your songs “For the Ones We Love” and “Not Alone?”

A) I think it’s been a cool trilogy of songs that were released out of this pandemic. “Not Alone” was the first song I released just doing lockdown. And the next one was “For the Ones We Love ” was released nine months after and now here we are with this global mountain of hope “Mountains” and I’m so encouraged by the response I’ve seen around the world. I’m in Europe right now because the song is taking off on the radio here and it’s been an incredible journey with this song so far.

Q) The video for the song features the beautiful Copper Canyon. What made that the perfect location for the imagery to the track?

A) I wanted to shoot a video in one of the most epic landscapes in the world. The video director Narses suggested the Copper Canyon. I had never been there before but when I saw some images of the location, I knew right away that this was the perfect place to record this video. It was a real journey to get there. I took two planes, a four-hour bus ride and then took a train that traveled up the mountains of the Copper Canyon. Then, it was hours of hiking to reach this epic location. It was hard work, but it was all worth it.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) Absolutely, I’m in the middle of finishing my Jonas Myrin EP and I cannot wait to share it with you guys.

Q) You’ve written and co-produced songs for a number of iconic musicians over the years. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Oh wow, there’s so many artists that inspire me and that I would love to work with. A dream collaboration would be to work with Paul McCartney from The Beatles. One of my favorite song writers in the world.

Q) You have two Grammys, an incredible accomplishment for a songwriter and musician. Where do you keep these iconic awards and what did this achievement mean to you?

A) It’s a funny story, actually. I sent the Grammy Awards to Sweden to my parents’ house because I thought it would be so lovely for them to have my Grammy at their place. But when I came home from LA to Sweden for Christmas, I couldn’t find it anywhere. Then, I walked into my sister’s old bedroom that she hasn’t lived in for fifteen years, and I found the Grammy in the back of a shelf in the corner of the room next to some old dusty books. I asked my mom why it was there, and she said, “Because I didn’t want to show it off, it’s yours.” I told her I sent it to her so that she can show it off and have it as a reminder and feel proud. So, I took it back and now it’s actually in my studio in LA.

Q) Who are some up and coming artists that you are currently listening to and expecting big things from?

A) I’ve been loving to watch Jacob Collier take Jazz music and make it into contemporary expression of art for our generation. I think he’s very talented and I love the collaborations he does across multiple genres – from Quincy Jones to Chris Martin from Coldplay.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and the music you create?

A) First, I’d like to say thank you for the amazing support from around the world for these songs and my music. I would like to tell them, look up and remember that no matter what you’re going through and no matter the circumstance together we can move mountains.
