Q) How would you describe your sound?

Gabe: We’re always experimenting with our sound, but the goal is feel good pop.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

Callie: Growing up Gabe pulled a ton of inspiration from Singer/Songwriters like John Mayer. I grew up in a musical family, so my sister really influenced me to pursue music.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Long Nights.”

Gabe: “Long Nights” was written from the perspective of our relationship if we hadn’t stayed together after the car accident. It’s about missing someone.

Q) What was it about the city of New York that inspired this song?

Gabe: New York is our favorite place on earth. We actually owe us being together to that city and the moments its created. We wrote “Long Nights” with Eighty Ninety, our second or third time being there together. We wanted to capture how New York made us feel in a song, and I think we succeeded.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

Callie: We write from experiences and emotions we think everyone has had at some point or another. That’s always been our goal, so we’re stoked people hear it that way!

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

Gabe: We knew pretty early on we wanted to take a lighthearted approach to the video. We had a really great team on it that allowed us to be creative and make something cool.

Callie: In a way “I’d do anything to be with you again” even if that means doing something a “little” out of character. [laughs]

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

Gabe: It really depends! In this case, it was lyrics/melody before music. It really just depends on the vibe of the session and who we’re collaborating with. It’s kinda fun sometimes to start with a subject or an overall idea.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

Gabe: Quite a bit! I start production for most of the records and then usually finishes it up with his production partner Lance Mapp. In “Long Nights” Case Harper from Eighty Ninety started the production and then Lance and I finished it out. – Gabe

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

Callie: We’re planning on it! Regardless of how we package it, there will be a ton of new JST FRNDS music this year and beyond. We can’t wait to share it.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

Gabe: Like we mentioned before, New York is so close to our hearts and story, so that might always be #1. San Francisco is another city we had an absolute blast in. That was our first time in California and the vibe there is so conducive with how we create. Not to mention the weather.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) There are so many artists we look up to we’d love to collaborate with. We think a collab with Quinn XCII would be killer.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

Gabe: Lauv’s new album How I’m Feeling, of course. He’s such an icon.

Callie: I’m also obsessing over Jeremy Zucker’s Love is Not Dying album! The whole camp over at Mutual Friends really inspire us to continue doing what we do with who we love. Working with friends really makes a difference.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

Gabe: Most of our fanbase is from the other side of the world. The love and support we get is absolutely amazing. JST FRNDS started as a way to connect with people through music that relates to them and being able to see that and interact with those people makes us so happy. – Gabe

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

Gabe: THANKYOU! We love you all and can’t wait to show you all the new music and, eventually, come play a show in your city once this pandemic is over. If you want to keep up with us and get some exclusive content you can become a FRND at  jstfrndsmusic.com/frnd. Hope to see you all on the road soon! Stay safe!
