Q) You grew up in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and eventually made your way to Nashville. What impact did both locations have on your sound?
A) Growing up in South Dakota I was surrounded by both country and rock music. I listened to everything from Shania Twain to Garth Brooks to Miranda Lambert to Eric Church to Alanis Morissette. When I made the move to Nashville I experienced so many different flavors of country music and with so many insanely talented musicians around me that I felt confident that I could blend those two worlds together and find my own sound within that space.
Q) You’ve shared the stage with so many incredible artists. Was there a particular show or moment where you really thought, “I can’t believe this is my life?”
A) I am blessed to have had many of those moments over the years. A really special one that sticks out to me was playing the arena near my hometown while opening for Parker McCollum. That arena is just down the hall from where I saw my first ever concert and had the idea that I wanted to be an artist one day. A lot of my family and friends were there for the show and it was truly one of the most full circle moments I’ve ever had.
Q) Who are some artists that inspired you when you were growing up?
A) Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain, Gretchen Wilson, Alanis Morissette
Q When you were writing your song “BPM,” did you already know there was a follow up story that you wanted to tell or did inspiration strike later?
A) Inspiration struck later on that one. I lived a little bit of life & love & one day I felt really called to finish the rest of the story.
Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can begin crafting lyrics?
A) It’s a little bit of everything! Sometimes lyrics come first, sometimes the music does. Most of the time I start with a concept and work off of that.
Q) Let’s talk more about “Where Does The Time Go.” What made you want to write about those everyday moments that end up meaning so much?
A) Living them! I’ve always been a big believer that the small things end up being the big things when you look back. I’ve heard so many people reminisce about their life and mention the everyday moments as things they’re really fond of so it just felt right that it should exist in song form.
Q) There’s a line in the chorus about standing in “a million minutes of memories.” What does that line mean to you?
A) For me, it was just about having so many little things that you share with the person you choose to spend your life with. It’s not only the vacations and the new experiences you have together but the slow ones where you’re doing dishes or watching a movie or just simply spending time together.
Q) There’s a beautiful contrast in the song between time flying by and moving slowly. What do you hope lingers with listeners – either as a message or emotion?
A) I hope it gives people peace of mind to just be able to enjoy the ride and be really present in whatever moment they’re in.
Q) You’ve said that “Where Does The Time Go?” is the token ballad on your upcoming new album. What are some themes you’ll be exploring on it?
A) There’s a little bit of everything on the next album. Love, heartbreak, the feeling of not knowing what comes next, and of course a little burn someone’s house down energy. [smiles]
Q) As well as a new album, there’s a lot happening right now – a growing fanbase, millions of streams and rising TikTok numbers. How do you stay grounded in the middle of that momentum?
A) I call my parents, I check in with my friends, paint, workout and just try to live my normal life as best I can with the schedule I have. And when that gets crazy I remind myself that my 8-year-old self would be so excited to know that she gets to do the things she dreams of someday.
Q) You have some really exciting shows coming up. What are you most looking forward to about your next stretch of touring?
A) I love being on the road. Being on stage has always felt like my living room in a way. I feel so at home performing. I also love getting to meet fans in real life! My meet and greets are often my favorite part of the night!
Q) What can fans expect from a live Julie Eddy performance?
A) A lot of eyeliner, a lot of attitude and probably some over-sharing about what inspired the songs! [laughs]
Q) Who are some artists that you would love to collaborate with on music in the future?
A) I’ve always wanted to work with Miranda Lambert. That would be such a dream come true. I have a whole list of people that I think would be so fun to have songs with – Charles Kelley from Lady A, Ryan Hurd, Josh Ross and the list could go on forever.
Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of you and your music?
A) Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the opportunity to make my dreams a reality. Thank you for every single minute you’ve spent listening, watching and sharing my music. If there’s anything you’ve ever wanted to do, go do it and do it with your whole chest. I’ll never be able to put properly into words how much it means to me that you choose to let my stories and melodies into your life and are open to finding your own stories within them but I will spend the rest of my life trying.
