Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) The four of us are always listening to a wide variety of music. Alternative, hip hop, rock. When we merge all those together, that’s what Katastro sounds like to me.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) It changes every day. There’s so many good artists and access to listen to new music now. Eminem and Red Hot Chili Peppers though are what made me want to be a musician.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Droptop.”

A) This is one of my favs on the album. Laid back summer sounding sound. One of my favorite bass lines on the album.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) People wanna hear real shit. Some of our most popular songs are just songs about past relationships I’ve been in. When the lyrics are about personal experiences, I think people connect to that the most.

Q) I love that Micah Brown from Iration adds his voice to the background vocals. How did that collaboration come about?

A) Micah B. has been our boy for a long time. We’ve done several shows with Iration, so we’ve always talked about working together. Next song though he is getting his own verse. Too smooth.

Q) How does the music video for your single “The Way I Feel” play into the message behind the song?

A) The song is about going through the same bullshit every day in a relationship. So, we kept it simple and shot the majority of it in one room and played off those lyrics.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I record a lot of voice memos when I have any ideas. A lot of songs start with a riff, and I’ll dive into those voice memos and use a lot of those.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) We write and record everything together with our producer Matt Keller. We wrote a few songs with some other homies on Sucker, but for the most part it’s us four.

Q) Your new album Sucker comes out in July. What are some themes you explore on it?

A) We had a lot of time to write this one. I think it shows. We wanted it to sounds fresh, new and I think we nailed it. We feel good about this one.

Q) Andy has said that “The Way I Feel” is his most personal song off the album and cathartic to record, but which songs challenged you the most to create?

A) To be honest, none. There are some days you go in the studio and nothing comes out. But when you have something, you usually finish it pretty fast.

Q) You’ve got The Sucker Summer Run Headlining Tour coming up. What songs are you looking forward to playing live off the album?

A) “The Way I Feel” is gonna go off! Excited to play “One Day” and “John T.”

Q) Andrew noted that Katastro wants to “make art that makes people feel good.” What do you hope fans take away from listening to Sucker as a whole album?

A) I hope it makes them feel as good as it did for us when we were creating it.

Q) Since concerts have been on hold, what have you missed most about being on stage?

A) The adrenaline before shows. I feel like a different person when I walk on stage. Can’t wait to be back up there.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Denver, the energy is always crazy. Phoenix though always.  Hometown shows go nuts.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I think Damien Marley would be dope.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I listen to a lot of hip hop. Joyner Lucas is one of my favorites right now. He can rap his ass off.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Social media is huge. People want to see what you’re doing. We try to interact and reply to all of our fans. It’s important to keep that connection with them.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you for keeping us going. Without them, we aren’t anything.
