Leah Marie Mason – Trust Fund Cowboy

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Trust Fund Cowboy.”

A) “Trust Fund Cowboy” is about exposing the people that try to present themselves as something that they aren’t. Being from Raleigh to now living in Nashville, I see it all the time, and no one ever really says anything about it so I thought I would be the one! This song is also not meant to be taken super seriously, it’s more of a joke so if it offends you, it’s probably about you!

 

Q) Was there something you found particularly challenging about penning this one or did it seamlessly find its way to you?

A) I think the only “hard” part about this one was trying not to get too specific in who I had in mind while writing this one. [laughs] The lines came super easily. I’ve been a firsthand witness to a lot of this behavior. We actually had so many lines we were coming up with we had to narrow it down which was tough because they were all just so damn funny.

 

Q) What makes “Trust Fund Cowboy” the perfect follow up to your single “Tears into Diamonds?”

A) I think this new era of music for me really shows the growth I’ve had as an artist and as a writer over the past few months. I’m really excited for everyone to see this entire project come together, I’ve been working really hard behind the scenes, and I think this new music really speaks for itself!

 

Q) You are a part of social media. What kind of fan feedback have you already been receiving to “Trust Fund Cowboy?”

A) People seem to be really loving the song so far! I’ve had a few videos go viral, which has been crazy to see. I think a lot of people just know exactly the kind of person I’m talking about. I even have a lot of the guys in the comments admitting to being exposed but also loving the song which has been really funny. [laughs]

 

Q) What do you think it is about “Trust Fund Cowboy” that makes it such a bop?

A) I think the lyrics are just so witty, and the production is super fresh sounding. I want to do my own take on country, and I think this song really speaks to that.

 

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming out in the near future?

A) Yes, there will be! I’m working on putting it all together right now and I’m really excited about everything so far. I can’t wait for everyone to hear everything! I think my fans are really gonna love this project

 

Q) What do you think it is about your music that continues to resonate with the audience?

A) I just write what I know and what’s real to me and that seems to be what works best. I think TikTok and consumers in general are smarter than we give them credit for, and they can really tell when something’s authentic or not. My recent music has just been super honest to me and what I want to say, and I think my audience can really feel that.

 

Q) What advice would you give to up-and-coming musicians?

A) Be yourself! I know it sounds corny but it’s so true. Make music that fulfills you and write what makes you happy. You want to build an audience that really loves you for YOU, not someone you’re pretending to be.

 

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and the music you make?

A) Thank you for making my dream a reality. I love music and songwriting with every part of me and I’m so grateful I get to do it every single day. Love you all so much, and I can’t wait for you to hear what’s coming!!!
